CHAIR OF THE Board

MESSAGE E R I C T O E W S I Chair of the Board of Directors

t is my pleasure to share with you the 2022-2023 Donor Impact Report, a reflection on the past fiscal year’s accomplishments and contributions. I am delighted to announce that, once again, we have concluded an exceptional year, made possible by the unity of our remarkable community. This success would not have been achievable without the steadfast dedication of our staff, faculty, administration, and, you, our Rundle community members. Your enduring commitment and unwavering support have played an integral role in our continued progress, and we deeply value the ways in which you contribute, no matter how big or small. In 2022, it was an honor to be elected as the Chair of the Board of Directors. I extend my thanks to my predecessor, Carrie Ferguson, for her exemplary leadership from 2016 to 2022 and for her unwavering support as a board member over the past several years. We are fortunate to be served by a voluntary board of accomplished professionals, each bringing a distinct skill set, knowledge, and experience to the table. Their dedication to upholding the highest standards of governance in our school environment is truly commendable. This past year, we had another successful year of student growth, achievement, and accomplishments. Additionally, our community came together and supported our Vision and Values, actively participating in our annual

03

fundraising initiatives. Your choice to include Rundle in your charitable giving is both humbling and inspiring, and we are grateful. Our community’s strength is further bolstered by the countless volunteers who tirelessly work to maintain connections among us and with our schools. The recent success of the College K-6 Parent Advisory Council’s “Party with a Purpose” event, attended by over 700 parents, exemplifies our community’s commitment to supporting our students and faculty and creating lasting connections. Contained within this Donor Impact Report are stories of donors who have invested in our students and experienced the transformative impact of a Rundle education on their children. We also take this opportunity to express our gratitude to the numerous past and present donors who have generously shared their time, talent, and resources with Rundle. Your extraordinary commitment is the cornerstone of our pursuit of educational excellence. On behalf of our Board of Directors, thank you for being part of another successful year at Rundle!

in education to our students and ensure our students are set on the path to future success. Most importantly, our extraordinary parent community supported our students and faculty with their time, talent, and treasure. We couldn’t do what we do without your generous support. The results will be evident in this Donor Impact Report, showing our work together. You will read stories of donors living inspiring lives and paying it forward to our Rundle community. Our community’s generosity makes the Rundle experience extraordinary. These gifts become above-and-beyond facility enhancements, student financial assistance, and programs that would not be possible by tuition fees alone. Upon reflecting on my 23 years at Rundle and this publication, a few things stand out as key contributors to our school’s “magic”: MISSION, VISION & VALUES: “Helping students reach their full potential,” “celebrating with them when they do,” “developing unparalleled character and inspired minds,” and “kindness, curiosity and wellness.” These are more than words on a page—they are the Rundle way.

rom the fall when we welcomed our students back on campus to the time of graduation ceremonies in June 2023, I watched with pride as our students made the most of their time at Rundle. Whether in the classroom, on the athletic field, or in competitions, our students were involved and engaged, and they excelled. I’m grateful to our staff and faculty who work to provide excellence

ENGAGED AND SUPPORTIVE PARENT COMMUNITY: When speaking with members of our parent community, more often than not, the first thing I hear in their words and actions is, “How can we help?” Our parents help by volunteering their time, offering moral support, and providing professional insights and financial support for school enhancements. The advancement of Rundle’s extraordinary mission has only been possible thanks to the impact of this unwavering support.

RUNDLE’S SECRET INGREDIENT: Our staff. As a member of our extraordinary Rundle community, I am confident you’ll agree. Each time I connect with a parent and ask who their child’s teacher is, the conversation usually continues in this fashion: “Ms. XX… and she is the best teacher in the world!” To this, I always agree! The parent then says, “Come to think of it, I am pretty sure I said the same thing to you last year, didn’t I?” To this, I’ll nod in agreement. And finally, the parents will say, “I can’t wait to see who my son (child) gets next year – I’m positive they’ll be awesome too.” I think to myself, “You are absolutely correct.” In short, we are so fortunate to have the best teachers in the world. They are hardworking, talented, and committed individuals, creating a personalized learning journey for each student in our care. As Rundle approaches its 40th anniversary, we are ready to take the next steps in our evolution. Rundle is on the precipice of some of our most exciting days. While maintaining our extraordinary mission and community, we are working tirelessly to position Rundle as an innovative centre of excellence that will set the standard for all schools in Canada and beyond. As a result of your continued support, 23 years from now, when I look back at my time at Rundle, we will still be celebrating the foundational excellence of the program we know today. We will feel proud that we delivered on the promise of this incredible, internationally renowned learning institution. On behalf of the Board of Directors and our faculty, I would like to thank you for your generosity this past year and for your commitment to our students and faculty. Enjoy this issue of the inaugural Donor Impact Report.

HEAD OF School

STUDENTS WHO CARE: Our student community’s culture of care is well-established. It is common to see a grade 12 student playing soccer with a grade 4 or a grade 10 student tutoring another. I vividly remember hearing a student say loudly in our lunchroom, “80%, I just got 80% on my biology exam!” This statement was followed by a veritable standing ovation by their peers. This student’s success was the toast of their entire grade group. To our students, I believe that their measure of success directly reflects the care they demonstrate.

MESSAGE JON MCKENZIE I

Advancement Committee Chair

am so very proud to be part of Rundle College Society— which year after year, continues to inspire us all with its generosity, encouragement, commitment and passion for the Rundle's mission. I am also privileged to serve on the Society Board of Directors and as Chair of the Advancement Committee, both of which are comprised of committed and hard-working volunteers, and I thank each of them for their efforts over the last year. While tuition covers the cost of fundamental school operations, the generosity of giving through charitable gifts provides much-needed support for new facilities, enhancements to our uniquely tailored academic programs, and additional funds for student financial assistance. We are excited by the growing culture of philanthropy across Rundle. This culture ensures our schools' success by ensuring we have the resources available to provide excellence in teaching, learning, facilities, and programming for our students today and for years to come. This was the first year the Advancement Committee actively promoted a culture of philanthropy and giving. The Committee’s mandate is to provide strategic counsel to staff, provide input on all advancement-related priorities, and advise the Board on plans to engage stakeholders. We are focused on building relationships with our parent community, partnering with projects that align with the school’s values, and celebrating

05

the impact of our community’s extraordinary generosity. All the facilities on our campuses that benefit our students every day are the direct result of the generosity of current and past parents, staff, alumni, and grandparents. They have supported Rundle to ensure we can evolve with the changing needs of a future education. To that end, in 2023, the Society announced a major undertaking to redesign and rebuild our Rundle Academy. This significant and ambitious project deserves the support of the entire Rundle family. The programs offered at the Academy are unique within the province and truly change the lives and academic trajectories of the students lucky enough to attend this program. I feel deeply that it is the responsibility of every generation of Rundle families to support the Academy for current and future students. We saw a very successful year of fundraising with support from all constituent groups, including current and past parents, alumni, faculty and staff, grandparents and students. Our annual giving fund, Vision & Values 20222023, raised over $449,098, contributing to the day-to-day enhancement of our school, including small capital projects. We are grateful to our donors for their thoughtful and ongoing support of Rundle, which means so much to us all.

ALUMNI Committee

MESSAGE JENNIFER CHOW ’16

Our alumni events aim to foster a sense of connection, celebrate achievements, and provide valuable networking opportunities for our graduates. I am thrilled to report that we met and exceeded these objectives, resulting in a truly memorable experience for all involved. Key highlights from the alumni events of last year include alumni receptions at UBC Vancouver and UVic in October. December was a busy month with our alumni supporting the Seniors Secret Santa campaign, a reception at Western University, the inaugural alumnistaff/student basketball games and our annual Alumni HoHoHomecoming Pub Night. Attendance at these events was overwhelming, demonstrating the strong bond that our alumni continue to share with our school. In the new year, we invited our alumni back to mentor our current students at our Grade 11 Career Fair and Grade 12 post-secondary information panels, just to name a few. Again, the attendance at our annual Alumni Spring Homecoming Reception in May was the highest ever.

The positive feedback we received from our alumni affirmed the impact these events had on their lives. Many expressed gratitude for the opportunity to reconnect. The success of last year's alumni events would not have been possible without the dedication of our organizing committee, the support of our faculty and staff, and, most importantly, the enthusiastic participation of our alumni. Their continued commitment to our community's growth and betterment is commendable. As we progress, we remain committed to building upon this success and creating even more impactful events for our alumni. We are excited about the possibilities and look forward to another year of engaging, inspiring, and connecting with our fellow Rundle alumni.

DONOR IMPACT REPORT

As a dedicated member of the Rundle Alumni Committee, I am writing to share the remarkable success of alumni events last year. These events brought together our alumni community and left a lasting impact on all those who attended.

“Rundle is so meaningful and supportive that it will have a long-lasting impact on our children and any child lucky enough to attend,” says Lee. “We feel so fortunate that we can send our children to Rundle—so we asked ourselves, how can we help other kids get this education?" “It was incredible,” says Justine of her Rundle school tour, “to see how Rundle has thought about the wellrounded, holistic needs of a child and a community.” Lee saw everything he loves about the Calgary community embodied in Rundle: inviting, inclusive, and unique. Equally impressive was the diversity of Rundle alumni career paths: ranging from NASA employees to doctors to opera performers to engineers. Something was happening at this school, and they wanted their family to be a part of it. Last year, when the Dowd’s son began kindergarten at Rundle, Justine and Lee were impressed by the small class sizes. The personalized in-classroom approach, supported by a teacher and a kindergarten assistant, was above and beyond what they expected.

“After just one year at Rundle, when I sit and read with our six-year-old, I'm so impressed by his stamina for reading,” says Justine. “He has clearly been taught by a team with so much expertise and patience to develop a beautiful foundation for learning that I know will help him for his entire academic career.” The teachers’ care extended beyond the classroom. When the teachers found out that four kids from their class played on the same t-ball team, they took the time outside of school hours to show up and cheer

If we can help one child by giving, it could change their life. on their students. The kids were so excited that they could hardly focus on the game. “School is where we spend most of our youth,” Justine says. “If it can be safe and supportive, these students will go on to have a positive impact on our communities. If we can help one child by giving, it could change their life.”

DONOR IMPACT REPORT

For Rundle College parents Lee and Justine Dowd, the gift of a Rundle education is a powerful way to give back to the community. After just one year as Rundle parents, they became donors to the school’s scholarship endowment.

As the Rundle community grows, so do the possibilities to enrich our students' journey. To take advantage of the most promising opportunities, and sustain our commitment to educational excellence, including small class sizes and reasonable tuition fees, we rely on the philanthropic support of our community. In 2016, Rundle launched our first annual campaign. Since then, our giving program has blossomed in terms of parental engagement and funds garnered to elevate our students and faculty’s experience. While operational costs are met through tuition and governmental aid, our fundraising endeavors fuel capital projects, upgrade facilities, nurture faculty growth and retention, foster programs, and extend financial assistance to students needing support. We've raised nearly $3 million through the Annual Fund, channeling these funds into capital enhancements, student bursaries, curricular and co-curricular ventures, and other priorities. This incredible accomplishment is a testament to the compassion and dedication of parents, alumni, and friends who rally together to build a thriving community for the present and future generations. Fueling Progress: A Glimpse Into the Annual Fund’s Impact The Annual Fund’s reach is extensive, touching every campus and each student. It isn’t solely about the sum contributed but the spirit of giving that permeates our community. This culture of generosity is in harmony with our school’s progression, growing alongside our community and the annual fund itself. Pioneering Change: What the Annual Fund Nurtures Here’s a snapshot of the areas the Annual Fund actively supports: • Faculty and Staff Development: We attract and retain exceptional educators by investing in professional growth.

• Facility Enhancements: We rejuvenate classrooms, infuse technology, and create versatile spaces to elevate individual and group learning. • Diverse Programming: From robotics to music, athletics to coding, allowing our students to explore their passions and build character. • Financial Accessibility: We reduce financial barriers, ensuring deserving students continued access to a Rundle education. • Wellness Initiatives: Contribute to fostering a sense of belonging and happiness among students and faculty. A Lifeline: The Student Bursary Program

The Student Bursary Program is the foundation of our philanthropic endeavours. This program empowers talented students with financial assistance, enabling them to seamlessly remain part of the Rundle community and pursue their education. Over the years, many students have benefited from this lifechanging initiative, cultivating an uninterrupted educational journey surrounded by friends and mentors. Dr. Jason Rogers, our Head of School, captures it beautifully: “Rundle is a strong community that comes together no matter what to support each other and our students. In addition to volunteering and sharing their expertise, they invest in our students and faculty through philanthropy — all because they believe in education and giving our students the very best a Rundle education can offer.” While our Annual Fund may be younger compared to peers nationwide, its impact echoes across every corner of our Rundle schools. This culture of giving and gratitude continues to thrive in tandem with our school and its philanthropic pursuits. We’re humbled to belong to a community that shares values of kindness, curiosity, and well-being. Together, we invest in our students’ present and future success. These contributions shift Rundle from sustaining to thriving, and each donor, regardless of contribution size, instantly transforms our community.

DONOR IMPACT REPORT

When Rundle College first opened its doors to students, the notion of philanthropy wasn't at the forefront. However, fast forward almost four decades, and our Annual Fund has become the cornerstone of our school.

Before they found Rundle, Mike Esfarjani’s daughter, Diara, would cry at kindergarten drop-off. “I’m not as good as the other kids,” she would say. It was heartbreaking. Mike knew how hard it was to not feel at home at school. As a young kid growing up in a small town in Iran, Mike says “I was one of those kids who played around in the classroom instead of paying attention.” After years of hating school, he called it quits and dropped out in eighth grade. Fast forward to 1994, 23-year-old Mike left his home and family to immigrate to Toronto. Things didn’t work out as planned, and after a few years, he moved west to Alberta looking for a new start. In 1999, he drove to West Edmonton Mall and sat down at Harvey’s restaurant to reflect on his path forward. He was looking for a small town with job opportunities—Grand Prairie or Fort McMurray. “I flipped a coin,” Mike says. The coin pointed at Grand Prairie. Mike had never been there, nor did he know anyone there, but he took a leap of faith, drove out and landed a job as a rig welder. He immersed himself in Canadian culture. Hard work, courage and tenacity paid off and over the next two and half decades, Mike went on to build EPFC Corp and WOW Global Solutions, Inc., Calgarybased businesses that design, manufacture, and construct natural gas plants. He also started a family and had two girls. When it was time for his girls to head to school, the family enrolled them in public school. While his older daughter, Ryah, was doing ok, his younger daughter struggled to keep up with reading and writing. "She lost interest,” says Mike. “It brought her down.” After many anxiety-filled mornings, tearfilled drop-offs, and a change in schools, Diara’s teacher recommended a psychology test. Her teacher suggested that Diara would benefit from small classes, a more individualized approach to learning that they wouldn’t find in the public school system. The family made the decision that Rundle was the right place for both of their girls. Diara was accepted to Rundle Academy in Grade 4. Ryah was accepted to Rundle College for Grade 7.

13

Their lives changed immediately. The small class sizes were a gift, allowing both girls to work closely with their teachers. The school was incredibly organized and made a concerted effort to reach out, communicate, and keep Mike and his wife apprised of how the girls were doing. The Esfarjani’s were amazed by Rundle’s welcoming, friendly, and genuinely caring community. “The transition was positive and had an immediate impact.” says Mike, “Now, Diara loves school. I’ve seen so much growth in both of my girls. The education is so much stronger. The school has improved life for our entire family.” Diara’s reading, writing, and math skills blossomed. So has her confidence and her motivation to learn. Rundle has also challenged Ryah to push herself to new levels. “Rundle has taught Ryah to be more organized and put more time and effort toward her education,” says Mike. “She has really taken those lessons to heart. “When I see the growth in my kids and what’s happened in the last couple of years, I feel a responsibility to support Rundle. A good start with education was what I was missing when I was a child. When I see the results in my kids, I know how meaningful a Rundle education is for students and our community.”

DONOR IMPACT REPORT

An Interview with Chris Paz, Rundle Academy Teacher

Was education always important to you? I grew up in a working-class household and was fortunate to get a good public school education. My mother valued education and always pushed me and my brother toward greater challenges and opportunities. The values my mom instilled, and through my experience, I learned that education was the path to greater opportunity and the best way to influence your life and empower you on your path through life.

Did you want to be a teacher as a young adult? I grew up on the East Coast in Nova Scotia and went to St. Francis Xavier University (StFX). I knew I wanted to give back to the community from an early age and was thinking more toward a career in political life, but quickly realized politics wasn’t my passion. I had been a coach and an athlete since I was 14 years old, and I had always known that good coaches and good teachers could have big impact on kids’ lives. I first had the opportunity to try my hand at teaching when I participated in the X-Project—a tremendous StFX program where university students are brought to African Canadian and Mi’kmaw communities in rural Nova Scotia, and they tutor kids for free.

15

Tell us more about your teaching experiences in university. The families we tutored through the X-Project were extremely grateful to have us be a part of their kids’ education. It gave me a totally new perspective on what’s important. Along with a friend on a similar path, I then tutored through Access Antigonish (the hometown to St. FX), a program designed to help low-income people who couldn’t leave their homes because of physical mobility issues, complete their General Equivalency Diploma (GED). We would tutor [students] in their homes so that they could finish their GED and move on with their lives. I also volunteered in a kindergarten class. Those are the experiences that guided me to pursue a career in education.

What happened after university? Alberta was doing well economically at the time, so I moved West to pursue opportunity. I quickly realized I would need a Master’s degree to sustain me through a long-term teaching career. I decided to return to school the following semester at the University of New Brunswick. When I graduated, I worked on a reserve in northern Manitoba. I met my wife, and we relocated to Calgary, where I worked at the Stoney Nakoda Reserve. Then, I was fortunate

enough to enter Calgary’s independent school system. I took a job at Calgary Academy for six years before joining Rundle Academy 14 years ago.

What was Rundle Academy like when you first started versus today? When I started, there were 200 students in total and 27 students in the graduating class. I also saw a passionate staff team that cared about what we were doing. The huge difference maker in the educational system is having the right people who are passionate about what they're doing and want to be there. I was so pleased to see that it was a familycentred school—because when the families are interwoven into the learning experience, and we can collaborate, we really see success stories. These days, every Rundle Academy graduate is accepted to more than one university. We’re approaching 275 students. There has been tremendous growth.

Can you talk about what makes the Rundle Academy experience so special from your perspective? Relationships. Students feel comfortable asking teachers for help and know they will get the support they need. Often, they come from a school situation where they struggled. We try hard to create a warm, caring environment, but it takes time for them to adjust.

I’ve heard students talk about what a relief it is to know what to expect at school. I’ve heard them say, “I know that I can approach my teachers, and I know that change can happen.” We want them to be able to advocate for themselves. We need to scaffold them a little bit and be off in the periphery, saying, ‘We're here for you, and you can do this for yourself.’

You’re a donor to Rundle—what inspires you to give? The scholarship/bursary program is huge in my heart. Students should have access to the education they need. It breaks my heart to think that a family might have to pull out of our program because they can't afford to be part of it.

DONOR IMPACT REPORT

I give back to help ensure that other people have the same likelihood of success that I received through education. It takes the whole community to build this village. We can’t do this work unless we’re all willing to help.

GEORGE ELDER

First are my parents for their love and guidance in keeping my paths straight as a child; second is my high school sweetheart, partner and wife now for almost 6o years, providing unconditional love and support; and third was Rundle College co-founder Dr. W. J. Collett, and former Dean of Mount Royal College, for his wisdom and confidence in me. Upon graduating from Western Canada High School in the general program, my marks were average at best and did not allow me to apply to a university. My mother realized that additional education would be important for me to achieve, and she registered me at Mount Royal College. Upon entering Mount Royal College, but lacking focus in my life, I met Dean Collett, who provided the much-needed mentorship that allowed me to find clarity on how to set goals and achieve them. Dean Collett entered my educational life at a pivotal point where his help and understanding gave me the confidence I needed. My love of outdoor pursuits likely came from my father, who was an ardent waterfowl hunter. The ongoing interest and support from Dean Collett

supported my desire to further my education in wildlife biology. Mount Royal College at the time had transfer accreditation with American universities, which allowed me to apply where I was accepted to: Utah State University’s Department of Natural Resources program. As an aside, prior to entering Utah State, I married my high school sweetheart (Sherry Elder Nee Greensword). During the time we were in Logan, Utah, we came home during the summer, and I worked as a Seasonal Park Naturalist in Banff. During my final summer in Banff, I was offered a position as an instructor in the new BioScience Department at the Northern Alberta Institute of Technology (NAIT). There, I developed curriculum and courses in Wildlife Management. My teaching experience led to an opportunity to become the Branch Sales Trainer for Xerox Canada in Edmonton. The passing of my mother gave us the incentive to return home to Calgary to support my father. Upon returning to Calgary and with the help of a dear friend of my father, I accepted the opportunity to enter the commercial real estate business. Eventually, we established our own company, Elder Mills Corporation. We were pleased with our success and, during the period our company was active, often referenced the

many lessons Dean Collett shared with me during my tenure at Mount Royal College. Now that we are retired and looking back, my wife said, "It is time to give back to those people who were material in our lives." In addition to setting up an endowment for the BioScience Department at NAIT, we also decided to acknowledge the wisdom and help received from Dean Collett with the George David Elder Endowment Bursary Fund at Rundle College since Dean Collett was instrumental in a time of my early life when I needed the support. Youth today are facing challenges that are difficult for me to understand. Dean Collett believed that a good, well-rounded education offers the best chances for success, and I for one can attest to that. He believed students are individuals and should be treated with the love and care demonstrated by his vision at Rundle College. The seeds that foster courage, sound moral values, and strong character are paramount through the groundwork laid by Dean Collett. The same principals Dean Collett supported at Mount Royal College are alive and prospering at Rundle. The philosophy espoused by Dean Collett is as important today as it was when I met him at Mount Royal, and it means everything to me to pay it forward to the next generation at Rundle.

in the Academy's future through a Legacy Gift CAROLINE BANADAR I

Rundle Academy Alumni Parent, Class of 2015

Rundle Academy had a profound impact on our son, Alex. As parents of two boys, we firmly believed that investing in our children's education was of utmost importance. Enrolling our sons in an independent school was a decision we made with conviction, and it proved to be a valuable investment. At 12, our younger son, Alex, was a sweet earnest young boy. However, I vividly recall numerous evenings when he would return home burdened by academic challenges and the pressure to excel. As a family, we grappled with finding effective ways to support him. Everything changed when Alex joined Rundle Academy in Grade 7. I can still recall our initial meeting with then-Principal Jason Rogers. From the start, the Rundle Academy staff extended exceptional warmth in welcoming us as a new family. It was clear that Alex’s educational success was a firm priority of theirs. Over the years, Alex effectively utilized the array of learning strategies provided by the Academy. At 12 years-old, Alex was unsure how his learning style would impact his progress at school. However, he graduated from Rundle Academy as an academically confident and self-assured young man, achieving Honors. Engaging in activities such as volleyball, community service, and serving as a stage manager for drama productions, he also assumed the role of Co-President of the Student Council. Alex received a

19

comprehensive education, and equally importantly, he radiated happiness when he returned home. The unwavering support of a compassionate and dedicated faculty allowed Alex to unleash his full potential, serving. him well during his undergraduate and law school studies. Alex shares that "Rundle Academy enabled me to comprehend my unique learning approach and equipped me with strategies to harness my strengths for optimal outcomes. For instance, I recognized my inclination as a visual learner, prompting me to seek visual aids that complimented my readings. This skill set carried me through my undergraduate years and into law school." Alex's personal development and academic accomplishments were so significant that we felt compelled to give back to future students. We decided to leave a legacy gift in our will, ensuring vital financial assistance for upcoming students to access the transformative education that Rundle Academy offers. A bequest in your will represents a contribution that bears no immediate cost yet profoundly impacts the forthcoming generation of students. Dear Scholarship Donor, I came to Rundle in Grade 7, right after the COVID-19 pandemic. Rundle is such a supportive community, and I became comfortable using audio and taking extra time. In my elementary school, I felt weird and ostracized that I was the only kid who used a bio and needed a grid. Here at the Academy, I am just one of many students who need to use these accommodations. It took me a while to find my place and where I fit in (it is something I am still working on), but now I find things I love while being at school (guitar club, music clubs, bio) and even the opportunity to try something new (GSA club and figuring out if I might be, but not sure yet, asexual).

Thank you for this scholarship, and I will continue to work just as hard next year in the sciences and math.

Thank you again, A grateful grade 10 student

DONOR IMPACT REPORT

I applied for the scholarship because I thought I could try it out and the worst that will happen is I learn how to fill out the application. I was extremely surprised when I found out I got it. To me, the scholarship shows if you put in the hard work, you can do great stuff. And your passion can really lead you somewhere.

AARON GOETTEL I

Associate Director of Alumni Relations

The graduating classes of 2015 initiated an annual giving campaign as part of their Rundle legacy to grow the Rundle Student Bursary Fund – Project 20.15. Their goal was to create a sustainable fund that would provide tuition assistance for current Rundle students whose families have encountered a difficult financial situation and do not have the financial means to continue their education at Rundle. Diversity within our schools is essential to providing a rich educational experience for all students; we know how important a strong peer group is to our children's positive development. The graduates committed to giving a minimum gift of $20.15 for the next five years or a lump sum payment of $100.75. This tradition has continued with following graduating classes, as each year, we invite the graduating classes to continue this philanthropic tradition. Project 20.15 is more than just a graduation initiative — other Rundle community members, including teachers, parents, and alumni, have been inspired to contribute to this initiative.

21

Last year, 85% of our Class of 2023 supported Project 20.23 and raised close to $3,000. An average of over 80% of our graduating students have participated in this initiative, and since 2018, 100% of graduating students at the Academy have participated. These students and others in the Rundle community have raised over $250,000 towards the Student Bursary Fund. The donor wall in the Great Hall of the College 7–12 School and the main lobby of the Academy proudly display the names of our students who have made it their legacy to give the transformational gift of education to another Rundle student by donating to the Student Bursary Fund – Project 20.15. We greatly appreciate the generosity of graduates supporting fellow and future students.

Dear Rundle Community, As a proud alumnus of Rundle College, I am writing to express my reasons for consistently donating back to my former school, which positively impacted my life and helped me achieve the success I have found today.

ALUMNI IMPACT Letter MICHAEL CHARNEY ’09

The reason I choose to donate annually is driven by several meaningful factors. My time at Rundle was a transformative period in my life. The education, friendships, and experiences I gained played a significant role in shaping who I am today. It is with deep gratitude and a sense of responsibility that I choose to give back to the institution that has given me so much. My years at Rundle were marked by invaluable learning experiences inside and outside the classroom. The dedication of the faculty and the enriching extracurricular activities contributed to my personal and academic growth. I am truly grateful for the education and opportunities I received. I also firmly believe in the power of education to transform lives. I am honoured to play a role in enabling current and future students to access the same quality education that I did. Investing in their potential feels like an investment in the future and to maintain Rundle's legacy of exceptional educational experiences. Thank you for all the work you do in maintaining the strong bond between Rundle and its alumni. The sense of belonging and camaraderie among Rundle alumni is truly special. I am honoured to be a part of this community and contribute to our future alumni's bright future. Together, we can make a lasting impact on the institution that has given us so much. With kind regards,

Michael Charney

Parent Advisory Councils

Time, heart, and energy describe our countless volunteers who are Parent Advisory Council (PACs) members at Rundle. The PACs support our community by welcoming new families, organizing events, and supporting fundraising efforts to keep our parent community connected with each other and their school. Our PACs are always looking for more volunteers; anyone in the community is encouraged to join. Our PACs saw another successful year and we are pleased to share some highlights from each PAC. We are so grateful for the invaluable support they give our community.

Academy PAC This past school year was another busy and fruitful year as we hosted numerous events to bring our parent community together to support our students and faculty. We hosted activities throughout the year, including “filling the staff room fridge” with treats, building gift baskets for teachers at Christmas and the end of the year, and arranging coffee carts, cookies, and early morning breakfast to energize our teachers during each semester's busy times. Our teachers work HARD, and the Rundle Academy PAC mobilizes the parent community to show our appreciation throughout the year! The Rundle Academy PAC does act as a collective voice of parents; however, it is so much more! We also build relationships with our parents through grade-specific parent social nights, guest speaker education sessions, pub nights, stop-and-go morning coffee, welcome-back picnics, and end-ofyear carnivals. Our goal is that these learning and social activities help us get to know each other by creating a sense of belonging and strengthening the Rundle Academy community.

23

Collett PAC (College K–6) Our Collett PAC volunteers held many wonderful events over the school year. The most notable one was the first-ever Party with a Purpose! The spring party brought together over 700 community members and raised $25,000 to enhance the student experience. The three main goals of the event were to unite our community, support our children and our school and, most importantly, have fun! The success of the silent auction provided funds to enhance the student experience for Collett students, including enhanced outdoor learning spaces and a dedicated mascot.

Conklin PAC (College 7–12) PAC Conklin had another busy year supporting the teacher-staff appreciation luncheons. In the last year, the Conklin PAC purchased a mobile sink for the STEM classroom, and new headsets for the drama department, along with hosting five used uniform sales for our junior senior high students.

As Elizabeth Andrew, an American author, aptly said, “Volunteers do not necessarily have the time, they have the heart.” Thank you to all our PAC volunteers who made last year so extraordinary for our students and faculty!

Studio PAC Among other activities, the PAC raised money for our first-ever Grade 9 celebration, helping to organize our year-end celebration, participating in monthly meetups, and providing special treats for our staff. In addition, they organized the grade 9 legacy project, which will be showcased soon in the Metaverse!

DONOR IMPACT REPORT

To our bursary program donors – your donations directly impact the students and families in our community. These are just a few of the stories.

Dear Rundle Bursary Donors, It is our pleasure to write this letter. When your child is struggling, the whole family struggles. When your child hurts, the whole family hurts. Sadly, this was very true for our family. We knew our child was smart but we could see traditional school would not work. We simply could not continue down the road we were going. Dear Bursary Program Donor,

On behalf of our family, we would like to take this opportunity to express our sincere gratitude and appreciation for the bursary provided to our son. This is the fifth and final year we will receive the bursary, as he is entering grade 12 in September. Without this bursary, his attendance at Rundle would have been highly unlikely. In his time at Rundle, we watched him grow as an individual due in no small part to the support his teachers and administration provided. We are confident in saying that this would not have been possible in another learning environment. As a recipient of the bursary, the donors to this program are an anonymous group of people whom we've likely never met. We want those folks to know what they've contributed to our son and to our family.

25

Rundle Academy has changed the projection of where our family was heading. Our child is now an honour roll student thanks to the hands-on activities, dedicated teachers who provide homework help, and the small class sizes. More importantly, our child does not come home stressed after school. We do not have battles over hours of homework or missing assignments. Our child has learned that it is okay to learn differently. Rundle Academy has taught them to advocate for themselves. This skill will carry them far. As parents, we are so grateful that our child is part of the Academy family. This would not be possible without the generosity of donors. The opportunity to attend Rundle Academy has truly been life-changing for our whole family. Thank you to the donors who understand how valuable this is.

Dear Rundle Bursary Fund Donors,

Please accept this note of appreciation for the receipt of a substantial Rundle Bursary for the upcoming 23-24 school year. We feel incredibly fortunate and grateful to belong to a school community that cares enough to offer such assistance.

I want to extend my gratitude to the families and individuals who have generously donated to the Rundle Bursary Fund.

As newer members of the Rundle community, Rundle feels like “home,” both to us as parents and to our children. With your support, this can continue into next year, and it allows us to stay at Rundle, something that we thought we might have to seriously reconsider. We are grateful for the solid trajectory into post-secondary education that this will provide, including strong and positive personal development. Society can pile much onto our children and Rundle instills coping skills as well as how to excel in the environment that exists outside of the “Rundle walls.” Thank you for allowing us to continue to be a part of a community that is grounded in and celebrates excellence. On a more personal note, it can be pretty humbling to admit that help is needed when unexpected personal circumstances arise. It also can feel pretty overwhelming to know that others care enough to support you in such situations, in the way that you have. It very much mattered to us, and we hope this note conveys our gratitude to you, albeit in a small way.

Our family has been so grateful and fortunate to receive aid from this fund for our daughter to attend Rundle Academy. The change in path for our daughter will impact her entire life. She would not be able to have the coping skills and confidence if it were not for attending this school. She was deteriorating at her former school and the impact on our family and her whole self was impacting our entire lives. She is now at a place where she can go off to post-secondary education in a few years with confidence and a successful mindset in her memory. All of this is thanks to your generous and selfless donations. We cannot thank you enough. You will forever have changed and impacted our lives for the better.

K I R S T E N K L I N G V A L L I Rundle College Elementary Principal This past school year was an exciting time for our College Elementary students to return to a historical level of support and engagement with our Calgary community. This occurred throughout the year with a number of heartfelt activities and initiatives by all of our students and our Kids Care Club. We kicked off our winter season of giving in which all of our students and families supported three families through the December Adopt-aFamily initiative while the grade 5 students also proudly stuffed 35 toques full of much-needed items for the Mustard Seed. As a part of our student-led Winter Market, the grade 6 students raised $3,000 with the help of our generous Elementary families, which was donated to the Kids Cancer Care in support of Camp Kindle. Kids Care Club members visited seniors at the Wentworth Manor Care Home who are happy to welcome our students to visit their residents each year. The Rundle Elementary Choir performed several songs for the residents, while others made crafts and read books to their new friends. Next, the Kids Care Club planned, organized and led fund-raising activities including a bake sale, Choice Day, and a street fair.

27

Grade 5 student, Weston P. is a passionate baker and member of the Kids Care Club, and when asked why they think it’s so important to help others in our community they said, “I’m from a really lucky family and we are fortunate to go to a nice school and have nice things, and I think it's important to help others who might not have what we do. Also, I really love to bake and help other people!” In total, the Kids Care Club, with the support of our very generous student body and their families raised a grand total of $4,998.65, which was donated to Ronald McDonald House Charities®, Calgary location. Destiny Mand, Community Partnerships Officer with Ronald McDonald House Charities® Alberta shared that the three fundraisers were able to provide 25 nights of comfort to families. A night of comfort is the cost to keep families together while their sick or injured child is accessing medical treatment. She was particularly impressed with the dedication of such young students to help their community by raising an incredible amount of money. We are immensely proud of our school community's commitment to making the world a better place through service and care for others and our students are already making plans for future community service.

THESE ARE THE ORGANIZATIONS THAT RUNDLE SUPPORTED DURING THE 2022 — 2023 SCHOOL YEAR.

DONOR IMPACT REPORT

We believe that giving back to our community is an integral part of the Rundle experience. We encourage our students to actively engage in volunteer opportunities, both within and beyond our school walls. These experiences not only make a positive impact on the community but also help our students develop valuable life skills, expand their horizons, and become socially conscious individuals.
