Lt. Governor John Sanchez announces bid for re-election in Ruidoso

By Eugene Heathman Editor eugene@ruidosofreepress.com Before a crowd of supporters Friday during a luncheon at the Lodge at Sierra Blanca, New Mexico Lt. Governor John Sanchez launched his campaign for re-election in 2014. Sanchez is no stranger to Lincoln County and has been instrumental in working with Governor Susana Martinez during the natural disasters impacting Lincoln County and served as the 2013 ENMU-Ruidoso Keynote Speaker. Following the luncheon, Sanchez presented the Cowboy lifetime achievement tribute at the Lincoln County Cowboy Symposium

Eligibility wise, Plan A is capped at 200 percent of the Federal Poverty Limit, while Plan B cuts off sooner at 180 percent FPL. Currently, FPL is at $11,490 annual income for an individual, adding $4,020 for each additional household member.

Functionally, Plan A means an individual with a monthly income below $1,915 would be eligible (adding $670 per individual). Plan B caps at an individual monthly income of $1,724; adding $603 per month, per family member in calculating the cap. Additional limits would be imposed on medical related expenses, such as Air Ambulance fees (limit $1,000) and physical therapy, $3,000. Both plans would impose a $100,000 lifetime limit per person.

Planning for future disasters By Erik LeDuc Reporter erik@ruidosofreepress.com Commissioners moved to establish an all-disaster incident management team in order to improve the county’s ability to respond to disasters, looking at a cooperative effort to train and deploy staff from local agencies and municipalities at a moment’s notice.

Master of realism leaves a legacy cast in bronze By Eugene Heathman Editor eugene@ruidosofreepress.com Dave McGary, a legend among contemporary artists of the American West, passed away last week after succumbing battle with a rare form of kidney cancer. Considered the Master of Realism, McGary is famous for depicting Native American Indians and his many awards during the past decade more than verify his popularity among collectors and fellow artists. McGary’s ability to capture the human spirit knows no equal, and his attention to detail in form and historic content are exhilarating. McGary was born the son of a ranching family in Cody, Wyo. As a teenager, he was one of four people in the United States awarded a grant to study anatomy and the bronze-making process with master craftsmen in Italy.
