Professional Practice Council (PPEC) -Employee Recognition Programs

Introduction: Riverside University Health Systems recognizes the importance an effective employee recognition program can have on its staff. In 2022, a multidisciplinary council known as the Professional Practice Engagement Committee (PPEC) was devoted to launching a universal employee recognition program highlighting staff for living the RUHS TRIED values and implementing service excellence. As a result, two employee recognition programs have been implemented to acknowledge our staff the RUHS STAR Card and Employee of the Month /Year.

Star Card

Purpose: The STAR CARD recognition is an “ON THE SPOT” program meant to reward employees who have displayed extra effort or who have gone above and beyond their day-today responsibilities. Star Card recognition can be from patients, employees, vendors, or contract employees.

A) Nomination Process

a. Nominators can obtain and complete a Star Card from various locations throughout the Medical Center, Arlington campus, Mission Grove, and Community Health Centers.

b. Nominators will fill out the Star Card which consists of:

i. Nominator information: Name and Role (Patient, Visitors, Volunteer, Physician, or Employee)

ii. Who they want to nominate: Employee, Physician, or Volunteer.

iii. Name and Department of the nominated person.

iv. Area of excellence: Customer Service, Service to Others (helpful attitude), Teamwork (dependable, supportive), Compassionate Care (caring, nurturing), Improvement Suggestions (processes, cost-savings, workflow), or Safety (actions, environment).

v. Included on the back of the Star Card is a space for written comments.

c. Once completed the nominator can return the Star Card to a manager, medical unit clerk, charge nurse, or place it in a drop box or select areas of RUHS – MC, Arlington, Community Health Centers, and Mission Grove campuses.

B) Star Card Certificate

a. A certificate specific to the Star Card is available for download on Sharepoint “Employee Engagement Portal”.

b. The printed Star Card certificate is intended to be presented to the employee during a department meeting or unit huddle.

C) Star Card Ordering Process

a. To ensure our management teams have access to Star Cards at their locations we have created an easy way to order.

D) Star Card How To:

a. Obtain the star card from the employee engagement portal or nearest employee recognition drop box.

b. Complete the STAR card.

c. Place the completed STAR card in the nearest community drop box or interoffice to the PX Team located on the third floor of the Education Building.

d. The card will be processed by the PX team, and the STAR certificate will be generated and sent back to the unit manager.

e. The STAR card and certificate can be displayed on the unit’s huddle board or area designated for employee recognition.

Employee of the Month

Purpose: The RUHS Employee of the Month Award wants to recognize individuals who have made significant contributions to making Riverside University Health System the best place to work, the best place to practice medicine, and the best place to receive care. This Peer-to-Peer recognition program will co-exist with the Star Card recognition program. The Employee of the Month recognition will be based on our RUHS Tried Values consistently.

A) Eligible Locations - We recognize that all our employees play an integral part in our organization. To promote inclusivity and appreciation we are including all departments that fall under the following locations:

a. RUHS- Medical Center including Correctional Health. b. RUHS- Ambulatory Care including Mission Grove. c. RUHS- Arlington d. RUHS- Provider

B) Award Name: RUHS Star of the Month

C) Monthly winners:

a. RUHS- MC will have two award winners. b. RUHS- Ambulatory will have one award winner. c. RUHS- Arlington will have one award winner. d. RUHS- Provider will have one award winner.

D) Employee Wall of Fame- To ensure that we celebrate our award-winning employees, RUHS is installing a “Wall of Fame” by the Medical Center near the Cactus Elevators

where we will circulate photos of our monthly award winners, along with an administrative announcement and social media post. For our offsite winners – a photo printout of the award winner will be provided to post at their facilities.

E) Employee of the Month Rewards

a. Photo Recognition

b. Parking Spot

c. Badge Reel – only available to monthly award winners.

F) Employee of the Month/Year Selection Process

a. Entries will be made on Employee of the Month Nomination form located in SharePoint on the Employee Engagement Portal.

b. Staff can nominate an employee by also scanning the QR code of an employee of the month poster located throughout the facility and on the employee engagement portal.

c. The professional practice committee meets on the first Thursday of every month.

d. At these meetings, the committee will review the submissions and vote for the employee who exemplifies the TRIED values.

e. To ensure that there is no favoritism involved, the descriptions will be anonymous so only the description is voted on.

i. PPEC Member who is responsible for creating anonymous entries and unable to vote.

Employee of the Year

Purpose: The Employee of the Year recognition program is an addition to the Employee of the Month program to recognize our most valuable employees. Nominations will still be based on RUHS TRIED Values.

Step One: Access the form on the SharePoint site.

Step Two: Enter the Nominee’s First Name, Last Name, Title, and Department or Unit.

Step Three: Select the TRIED value the nominee exemplifies.

Step Four: Enter a brief description of the employee and their dedication to the TRIED values.

Step Five: Provide your name and information.

Step Six: Click Submit!
