U R B A N I N S E R T

Redesigning old central bus stand site in Nashik city.

Site : Nashik, Maharashtra

Typology : Mixed Used Structure

Intend :

• The Design Intend was to propose an appropriate architectural solution for the old CBS in Nashik District. A spatial framework composing public realm, commercial complex, and Advocates Office chambers with creation of built and semi-built spaces within a single entity. Its an attempt of insertion by analyzing the context.

• By this, creates identity and at the same time landmark also for the city at the same time, helps people to derive new perspectives about the preexisting conditions of the site.

• It may become a context within itself in to a existing surrounding context or can add a new layer of context into the same context for upcoming projects.

The site rests in a time line where there is court from 1884 which is very adjacent to the site, Gym khana from 1911, Govt. kanya vidyalaya from 1921, kalidas kalamandir from 1987, New court building from 2005 and mela bus stand in 2022. So the site surrounds with old stone structure as well as new contemporary modern structures.

Traffic Analysis shows the level of occupancy, its type, in a particular area. It denotes if it’s a congested area of not. It also depicts which part has very high traffic flow and which part has low. Pedestrian flow depicts the type of area where people gather in number, if it’s a very usable area in a day time or not. It also denotes the everyday footfall on a particular area.

The site surrounds with residential and public spaces. It has 2 main primary road on South and East Side. Also has clear road n etwork to most of the places as the site lies in a core area of Nashik city. The ratio of built-unbuilt spaces are 3:2. The ratio of trees to the built is 2:3.On the site there are main three existing trees i.e. two G ulmohar tree and 1 Neem tree.

• The one main thing is that there is a continuous diagonal pedestrian flow from left corner of the site to the right top most co rner of the site.

• There are few shops on the site which needs a proper allotment of the space where they will work in the future also.

• High demand for car and two-wheeler parking.

• Some fruit and vegetable stalls are there around the site.

D E S I G N A P P R O A C H

The main design approach was to deal with the site conditions along with inference from contextual analysis and issues/problems overcoming around the site. The main direction for the design approach was that diagonal pedestrian flow on the site. So the main thought was to design a structure which will not hamper that movement via the site.

Physical Model

Design Brief :

To provide a space which creates interaction with nature through institutional architecture that stands as an representative of Indian ethos as a contribution to contemporary heritage. The base of this project was to explore the various design approaches with deliberation on generators and parameters of design through unfolding layers of art and culture, components to composition and in search of stories.

Design Intend : Can we, as an architect create a exclusive space through various pathways such as centralised, decentralised, leading towards focal point such as meeting nature. Without harming the nature contours and by forming spaces along the contour was the main idea.

Around 15km away from the centre of the Nashik City, the site is located in the scenic agricultural setting, off Triambak road. Talyachiwadi, as the name suggests is a serene landscape wrapped around a perennial lake created with the efforts of the owner by building bunds and check dams. The program encourages lateral thinking as one of the approach for derivation of design. In this process, there was exploration of themes like exploring interactions with nature, unfolding layers of art an d culture, in the search of the stories, Components to composition.

In the existing space, there is a Naturals Ice Cream parlor in the vicinity of college road. The program was to propose an alternate program over there without hampering the plan dimensions.

In the surrounding area of this place, there are restaurants, cafes, junk food corners, chat corners and some more shopping shops like clothing, etc.

So a new juice center can be a appropriate proposal over there so that people can have lunch or snacks in the surrounding restaurants and cafe and can have soda after it in this juice shop.
