Installation Instructions For: Eclipse Alcove Shower Pod

IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ THESE INSTUCTIONS FULLY BEFORE COMMENCING INSTALLATION. It is recommended that the installation and all plumbing and electrical elements be carried out by an appropriately qualified and competent person.

The assembly and installation of this shower pod should be carried out in accordance with current Building Regulations, Water Authority requirements and current IEE wiring regulations concerning earthing in shower and bathroom environments.

This shower pod should be installed on a sound & level floor.

Before Installation INSPECTION: Before installation remove all packaging, fully inspect the shower pod sections and door.

Check that all components have been supplied.

WASTE, WATER AND POWER SUPPLIES: All preparatory work should be carried out prior to the pod being fully installed. Plumbing and electrical 1st fix items should be in place and left accessible either below or adjacent to the final position of the shower pod.

Safety and Advice To avoid personal injury you are advised to wear protective goggles during installation and gloves when handling the shower pod.

Care should be taken to identify and avoid any existing services in the vicinity of the installation area.

All marking out should be done using masking tape and a pencil. Marker pens are not recommended to be used and solvent cleaner should never be used to remove any marking out.

Protection of the shower pod is vital during installation to prevent any damage.

Nothing contained in these instructions affect any statutory or other consumer rights.

The manufacturer accepts no liability for damage to the shower pod or consequential loss resulting from failure to follow these instructions.

Tools Required You will require a basic tool kit to carry out installation consisting of; Electric/battery drill Masonry & wood drill bits Screwdriver Spirit level Knife Hand/hacksaw Hole cutter Silicone gun Tape measure Pencil Masking tape

Cleaning Use only liquid non-abrasive cleaners to clean the shower pod or shower door.

Never use bleach, bleach based products, acid or acid based products on any element of the shower pod or shower door Lime scale deposits may be removed using non bleach based domestic descalers and a damp cloth

1. Preparing the tray section.

If you are installing the shower pod directly onto the floor use the base as delivered.

If you wish to raise the base from the floor follow the guide below; Prepare a protected area and upturn the shower base to attach legs and plinth support brackets.

Legs: Fix the 5no leg base plates to the areas indicated with an ‘L’ with the 18mm pan head screws provided. A pilot hole should be drilled with the 3mm drill bit supplied with care taken not to puncture the tray.

2. Fitting sections together Site the base section adjacent to the installation area and place the wall section carefully on top. Ensure the two sections are aligned correctly. Remove the protective tape to the seal attached to the tray section then secure together with the supplied bolts, washers and nuts.

Should a roof section be forming part of the installation it should be placed onto the wall section at this stage and attached using the same method as above.

3. Fitting shower valve and riser rail Push in the leg shafts and adjustable feet and adjust to the required height.

Plinth: Attach the pair of plinth support brackets with the 16mm flange head screws provided.

Waste & trap: The waste and trap can be temporarily or permanently fitted at this stage to allow any pipe work to be prepared ready for installation. (Refer to section 6) Levelling the tray: Place the base section in the position of the final installation. Adjust the legs so that the flange area of the base section is level to all sides, this will ease the process of levelling the entire shower pod upon installation.

Mixer: Any electric or mixer shower can be fitted to the shower pod rear wall. Care should be taken to identify the extent of the timber support to the rear of the unit which will take the fixing load of the shower valve or mixer unit.

Once the desired position of the mixer is identified the marking out of any necessary holes should take place using masking tape and a pencil. Once marked out the areas to be drilled are best covered in masking tape to avoid slipping of the drill bit or splintering of the gel coat finish.

Care should be taken when drilling and the use of the drill at slow speeds is recommended.

Whilst the pod is in the pre-installation position it is advisable to carry out as much of the pluming and/or electrical work as possible, always ensuring pipes and cabling can be accessed from below or adjacent to the shower pod once installed.

Riser rail: Support timbers are sited to the rear panel of the wall section for the fixing of the riser rail.

Masking tape and a pencil should be used for marking out. Any areas to be pilot drilled should be covered in masking tape as above.

NB Any holes/apertures made through the shower pod should be sealed with silicone sealant.

4. Positioning and levelling the shower pod

8. Installing the shower door

Carefully place the shower pod into position taking care not to drag the legs on the floor.

The wall sections should be installed plumb and true. The base should be checked for and adjusted to be; level across the front and from front to rear. Fall to the waste is predetermined but should be checked at this stage to ensure your shower pod drains correctly

Fixing the door: The shower door should be offered into position complete (with the compensator channels on either side of the frame). The door should be fitted with a 5mm gap between the compensator and the front edge of the shower pod walls.

5. Fixing cabinet to the wall The shower pod is fixed to the surrounding structure via the pre-drilled and countersunk holes to the walls and base sections. Once the pod is in the correct position, mark through to the surrounding structure, drill and prepare accordingly (timber or brickwork) to accept the supplied 100mm fixing screws.

Care should be taken to ensure the walls are fixed true, which may require some packing of the surrounding structure to avoid distortion of the pod.

A small amount of silicone should be placed in each screw recess prior to fixing.

Do not over tighten screws when securing the shower pod.

6. Fitting the shower trap Install the trap following the manufacturer's instructions. The waste should be bedded and pointed in silicone mastic.

7. Fitting optional plinth Secure the plinth with the pre-fixed clips. A timber batten fixed to the floor will provide a fixing point for the plinth with the 2no 16mm flange head screws provided.

Once the door is plumb and true mark the holes pre-drilled in the compensator sections onto the pod walls. Pilot drill through the walls with a 3mm drill bit and apply a small amount of silicone into each hole. Re-position the door once drilling is complete and attach the compensator with the 16mm flange head screws, taking care not to over tighten.

Secure the door frame into the compensators by pre-drilling with the 3mm drill bit and securing with 16mm flange head screws (no holes are pre-drilled for this element and care should be taken when drilling the aluminium sections to avoid the drill bit slipping).

Sealing the door: Silicone sealant should be applied vertically along the junction between the compensators and the shower pod walls to the inside of the shower pod.

Silicone Sealant should be applied to the outer of the frame where it abuts the shower pod walls and tray.

NB Both pivot and bifold doors are reversible to enable handing on site.

8. Continued Pivot doors require the supplied "U" shaped deflector to be fitted to the foot of the door once installed, this should be done with the protruding deflector to the inside of the door in the closed position. The flipper extrusion is to be located within the door frame at the base with the flipper edge pointing into the shower pod. This section has the flipper trimmed back at either end to allow water to disperse should it find it way onto it.

Adjustment of the doors within the door frame is achieved by loosening the screw in the top or bottom pivot locator and moving them either left or right Bifold doors are supplied with all seals and gaskets in situ. The door is fixed to one side of the frame and can be fitted with the door folding to either side.

Adjustment of the door, if necessary, can be achieved by the loosening of the four locking screws in the bifold and pivots. The door may then be adjusted and the locking screws tightened to secure the door in the new position.
