WAYNE’S WORLD A very warm welcome to all attending the match this afternoon at the Recreation Ground, home of Ruardean Hill Rangers Football Club. We would like to offer a special welcome to the players, management, and supporters of Frampton United for this Marcliff Gloucestershire County League fixture. We hope they enjoy their short stay with us and have a safe journey home. Today’s visitors currently sit sixth in the league table. They suffered a 2-0 defeat at home last week to local rivals Sharpness. The Sharpness goals came from Thomas Frankham and Archie Mears. Frampton’s previous result in the league was a goalless draw away at third place team, Rockleaze Rangers. Ruardean Hill first team travelled to Little Stoke. A trip that has generally proved difficult in recent seasons. However, A young Ruardean Hill team produced their best performance of the season to gain a well-deserved point. Hill took a first half lead through Steve Clark. The Hill led until the 85th minute when Michael Hardiman equalised for the home team. Hill goalkeeper Arron Underwood produced a fine save from a free kick with the last kick of the game resulting in the match finishing 1-1. In the North Glos Premier Division, the Reserve team lost to Milkwall. Aaron Barnett scoring their only goal. The A team game drew 2-2 with Staunton and Corse A. The Hill goal scorers were Matt Cook and Connor Dix. This week, the Reserves travel to play Broadwell Reserves and the A team host Lydbrook Athletic A at Dene Magna. Both games are 2.00pm kick off. Off the field, we continue to seek opportunities to improve the football club at all levels. The club is run by volunteers and is self-funded. We are constantly looking for helpers and ways in which we can improve our income. If anyone can assist, please contact one of the club officers listed in the programme. Finally, we hope you enjoy today’s game and will continue to support Ruardean Hill Rangers throughout the 2023/24 season. Thanks Midge

RUARDAEAN HILL

RANGERS HISTORY Ruardean Hill Rangers play their football on the highest point in the Forest of Dean, 920 feet above sea level. Formed in 1919, Ruardean Hill played in the old Forest of Dean league until its termination in the late 1950’s. They then moved into the North Gloucestershire League and have remained there in some capacity ever since. Ruardean Hill gained their first promotion to the Northern Senior League in 1994/95 and competed in this league for several seasons before being relegated in 2001. They immediately regained promotion the following year only to be relegated again in 2004. In the 2011/12 season, they earned a last day promotion back to the senior league as well as reaching the final of the ‘Amateur Cup’. The 2012/13 season brought the club its first promotion to the Northern Senior League Division 1 from back-to-back promotions. ‘The Hill’ finished in the top eight for each of the next three seasons before finally winning the Division 1 title in 2016/2017 season. They scored an incredible 125 goals and conceded just 34 in 35 games. Ruardean Hill’s current first team has a good mixture of youth, from our youth teams, and experience from the same core group of players. The core group players have been in the team for about 10 years. They now field 3 senior teams; the club’s promotions owe a lot to the depth of its other senior teams. The club are now competing in their 5th season in the Marcliff County League having finished 9th and 5th in their first two seasons. They are now fully cemented in the County League and they are looking to push on and finish as high as possible.

FRAMPTON UNITED history Frampton Utd AFC was founded in 1891, making it one of the founder members of the Stroud League. They have played at the Bell Field for over 80 years and originally their HQ was the Bell Hotel until 1968 when new changing quarters were built on the Bell Field. The club has competed in a number of leagues within the county. The early years seeing them in the Stroud League, and the now obsolete Severn Vale League. The club joined the Glos. Northern Senior League in 1953/54 which they were to play for just one season, before returning in 1964. In 1976/77 the Reserve XI won the Stroud Division One League and were promoted to the Glos. Northern Senior League whilst the 1st XI then went on to play in the Glos.County League in which they competed for a further 10 years. As with many clubs, around 2002 results of both teams were not going our way, and a couple of difficult seasons lay ahead. Eventually the club began to see the good times return, with the 1st XI finishing 3rd in the Stroud and District League in 2007/08, and Runners Up in 2008/09. In 2008/09 the Club also became the winners of the North Glos. County Cup, their first silverware for some years and very much celebrated! 2009/10 the 1st XI became Champions of the Stroud League Division 1 ensuring promotion to the Northern Senior League once again. They also won the Section 'B' Stroud Charity Cup. 2010/11 promotion to GNSL Div 1 was gained by winning the GNSL Div 2 League. 2011/12 promotion to Glos County League was gained by becoming Ru/Up in the GNSL Div 1 League. 2012/13 we re-introduced a 3rd team, who now play in Stroud & District League Division 4. 2017/18 2nd XI were promoted to GNSL Div 2 This season Lee Driver-Dickerson returned as manager of the 1st XI with last season’s 3rd XI manager Dave Clack stepping up to manage 2nd XI and Kris Bulley taking over the 3rd XI job.
