WAYNE’S WORLD A very warm welcome to all attending the match this afternoon at the Recreation Ground, home of Ruardean Hill Rangers Football Club. We would like to offer a special welcome to the players, management, and supporters of Quedgeley Wanderers for this Marcliff Gloucestershire County League fixture. We hope they enjoy their short stay with us and have a safe journey home. Today’s visitors currently sit one place above the Hill in the league table on six points. Last week they lost 3-1 away to Stoke Gifford United with their goal being scored by Oliver Barnett. Ruardean Hill’s first team travelled to Wick last Saturday and drew 1-1. The Hill took an early lead through Ollie Mason before conceding a goal almost straight from the Wick kick off. The Hill defended as a team for the rest of the match to gain a deserved point. Special mention to Arron Underwood, who frustrated the players and supporters with his annual man of the match performance at the Wick ground. The previous home game against Hanham Athletic was abandoned at half time due to a head injury to Hill’s, Kane Fellows. We are pleased to say that Kane was discharged from hospital that evening and attended the club the next day. Ruardean Hill would like to thank everyone involved in managing Kane’s injury and helping ensure that he was as warm and as comfortable as possible, in awful weather conditions ,until the ambulance arrived. The Hill defended as a team for the rest of the match to gain a deserved point.Next week, the Hill play FC Lakeside at home in the next round of the Gloucestershire Senior Amateur. 2.00 pm kick off. Today, the reserve team travel to play Mitcheldean in the North Glos Premier Division and the A team travel to Sling in Division 3. Both matches are 2pm kick off. Neither team had fixtures last week. The Reserve team game vs Milkwall on the Hill was postponed due to a waterlogged pitch. Finally, we hope you enjoy today’s game and will continue to support Ruardean Hill Rangers throughout the 2023/24 season.

RUARDAEAN HILL

RANGERS HISTORY Ruardean Hill Rangers play their football on the highest point in the Forest of Dean, 920 feet above sea level. Formed in 1919, Ruardean Hill played in the old Forest of Dean league until its termination in the late 1950’s. They then moved into the North Gloucestershire League and have remained there in some capacity ever since. Ruardean Hill gained their first promotion to the Northern Senior League in 1994/95 and competed in this league for several seasons before being relegated in 2001. They immediately regained promotion the following year only to be relegated again in 2004. In the 2011/12 season, they earned a last day promotion back to the senior league as well as reaching the final of the ‘Amateur Cup’. The 2012/13 season brought the club its first promotion to the Northern Senior League Division 1 from back-to-back promotions. ‘The Hill’ finished in the top eight for each of the next three seasons before finally winning the Division 1 title in 2016/2017 season. They scored an incredible 125 goals and conceded just 34 in 35 games. Ruardean Hill’s current first team has a good mixture of youth, from our youth teams, and experience from the same core group of players. The core group players have been in the team for about 10 years. They now field 3 senior teams; the club’s promotions owe a lot to the depth of its other senior teams. The club are now competing in their 5th season in the Marcliff County League having finished 9th and 5th in their first two seasons. They are now fully cemented in the County League and they are looking to push on and finish as high as possible.

QUEDGELEY WANDERERS history QWFC was formed in 1994, with just one boys under 14's team. It was started by Dave Mulrain and Ron Capper, who took on the roles of Secretary and Treasurer, positions they went on to hold for a further ten years. Dave has since returned to the club as Chairman and is in his sixth season. They laid the foundations for the club to grow to the present day where we have over 400 members across 23 competitive teams of all ages, including girls sides, 2 adult teams, walking football and Veterans. Many hours have been dedicated to the club by a number of volunteers to get to the point we are at today. In July 2021, we installed floodlights due to gaining a grant from Crest Nicholson. They were installed by MUSCO lighting who have installed lights in many Premier league sides. This season we have set up a Seniors Committee, with James Mulrain taking the vice chairman seat. Kelly Mulrain will continue in her role as Seniors Secretary. Dave Mulrain and James Mulrain will work alongside Andy Gutteridge in the Treasurer’s role. Many of our dedicated players are stepping up to help the running of the club taking on roles. Social media and fundraising will be led by Luke Holder and Nathan Charnock. Steve Sparrow will continue to take the reins of the First Team this season. He will continue his winning ways after he took over towards the end of last season and worked hard to lead the team to survival. Rob Page will be coaching the team to success. We have a dedicated core group of players again this season, so we have high hopes for a positive and successful season in the County League. Our Reserve team are currently in Stroud League Division 2. The trio of Stuart Ballinger, Chris Riley and Steve Ballinger will be taking the reins. The three will be leading the Reserves to success with some new faces and a mixture of young and mature players, we have high hopes that they will triumph. We have a brilliant bunch of players/management both on and off the field and wish both teams the best of luck this season.
