WORDS FROM AN RTR VOLUNTEER The opportunity to participate as a volunteer for Rebuilding Together was introduced to me by a mentor of mine, Mark Tamaro. I researched Rebuilding Together and learned of the outstanding work that they were providing the Roanoke community and communities nationwide. As a contractor, you have to realize that your work and craft brings people great joy. The opportunity to bring that joy to a local resident of my community by offering up my services was not just a wonderful experience, but also a true honor. I had the pleasure of working on Ms. Trudell’s bathroom, installing new laminate flooring, as well as replacing her back exterior door. There was a very specific and intoxicating energy among all of the volunteers that day as we all came together to provide a safe and peaceful home for Ms. Trudell. As a contractor, it is rare that one has the opportunity to participate in such a heartwarming project. Seeing the reaction and appreciation in Ms. Trudell’s smile as the day came to a close was one of the most gratifying moments in my career as a contractor.

My business, Mecca Building Services, is still in its infancy, but has grown substantially over the past year and a half. Any success that I gain is driven from the mentors and teachers that have guided me along the way.
