ANNUAL REPORT 2015

2015 was an exciting year of growth and change worth celebrating for Renovation Alliance. Together, with our volunteers and partners, we provided free, critical home repairs to 132 low-income homeowners and their families this year. We expanded our volunteer base, developed new partnerships, and established two new innovative programs to better serve those in need. In September, after many months of planning and research, we made the decision to disaffiliate from the Rebuilding Together network. Changing our name and leaving the affiliate network is an opportunity to expand our scope of work within the Roanoke Valley and to other communities in order to serve more families. By calling ourselves an “alliance, we also honor our partners who share our mission of making sure every person has a warm, safe, and dry home. Renovation Alliance sought out new partnerships this year in order to serve more homeowners in need. Through a new grant with our longtime partner, Foundation for Roanoke Valley, we increased our critical home repair and accessible home modification services to older adults residing in the Roanoke Valley. A new grant from USDA Rural Development, provided us with the financial resources necessary to address the needs of homeowners residing in our rural communities. Thanks to a collaboration with The Home Depot Foundation, we were able to rebuild the homes of 22 veterans and their surviving spouses. Renovation Alliance also welcomed new House Sponsors this year who helped make our April Renovation Day a success. We recognize that many home repair requests cannot be placed on a waiting list which is why we established an Emergency Home Repair program. With the help of individual donations and skilled volunteers, Renovation Alliance is now able to tackle many urgent repair needs in a matter of days such as heating system failures, roofing issues, plumbing leaks, and security concerns. Another program we kicked-off this year is our Modular Ramp Loan Program which provides accessible ramps to individuals who rent their home and/or land. Since the program was established in November, volunteers from Cave Spring United Methodist Church have already built ramps for two families.

These achievements are not just ours to celebrate. They are yours. As the calls continue to pour in from distressed individuals trying to figure out how they are going to repair their home, we know our work is not done. We’ve made great strides in developing our programs and services thanks to strong support from our volunteers and partners. Only with your help can ensure that every person has access to safe and healthy housing. Sincerely,

Earl W. Saunders, Jr. President
