ONE FAITH FELLOWSHIP’S NUGGETS FOR THE SOUL THE EYES OF THE LORD There are varying opinions of whether “Big Brother” should be allowed to observe people and their daily actions. There are many of us who are in full agreement with this public “service”. We understand that for the tradeoff of our privacy, we have eyes constantly beholding the evil and the good of people’s actions; including any criminal acts against us! More so, we are blessed to have “The Eyes of the Lord” constantly watching over us! For those of us who have decided to follow Jesus and to embrace

Him as our Lord and Savior and to submit to His ruler-ship in our lives, it is such an encouraging assurance to know that our Great, Heavenly Father is watching us! 2 Chronicles 16:9 NLT- The “Eyes of the LORD” search the whole earth in order to strengthen those whose hearts are fully committed to Him. AIM for Change

By the end of the lesson, we will: KNOW that as an act of worship, we should be willing to give generously of our time and talents to the Lord; FEEL that we should give to the Lord; and GIVE to the Lord.

Ezra 8:24 Then I separated twelve of the chief of the priests, Sherebiah, Hashabiah, and ten of their brethren with them, 25 And weighed unto them the silver, and the gold, and the vessels, even the offering of the house of our God,

which the king, and his counsellors, and his lords, and all Israel there present, had offered: 26 I even weighed unto their hand six hundred and fifty talents of silver, and silver vessels an hundred talents, and of gold an hundred talents; 27 Also twenty basons of gold, of a thousand drams; and two vessels of fine copper, precious as gold. 28 And I said unto them, Ye are holy unto the Lord; the vessels are holy also; and the silver and the gold are a freewill offering unto the Lord God of your fathers. 29 Watch ye, and keep them, until ye weigh them before the chief of the priests and the Levites, and chief of the fathers of Israel, at Jerusalem, in the chambers of the house of the Lord. 30 So took the priests and the Levites the weight of the silver, and the gold, and the vessels, to bring them to Jerusalem unto the house of our God.

IN FOCUS I remember what it felt like, wondering if the shelter I slept at was actually safe. I remember being hungry. I remember the kindness in the eyes of the pastor as he permitted me to sit at the church until I could check in at the shelter. Yet, I will never forget the kind words of encouragement, the shelter that provided me a safe place to sleep, or the soup kitchen that fed me. Unlike then, I now have the ability to live in a house and buy food. I am very thankful for how God kept me and still does. To express my gratitude to God, I have given back. I financially support the shelter that provided a safe place for me to sleep. I support with money the soup kitchen that fed me, and I have also paid for the badly needed repairs at the church so it may continue to be a safe haven for others. Generously giving of our money and time is one way to worship God. When we give, we act as God’s instruments to bless those who do not have. By generously giving, we show that what we have really does belong to God, and we are just stewards of those possessions. In today’s lesson, we see how Ezra prepared gifts of precious metals that were to be carried by the priests and the Levites to the House of God. THE PEOPLE, PLACES AND TIMES The Exile. The exile was the period of time when the inhabitants of the land of Israel were taken into captivity. The people of Israel consisted of the northern tribes of Israel and the southern tribes of Judah. The land of Israel was located in what is known as the Fertile Crescent and includes modern-day Egypt, Lebanon, Syria, Turkey, Jordan, Iraq, and Iran. Led by Moses, the people of Israel fled Egyptian rule and the people of the southern tribe of Judah settled in southern Palestine. At that time the southern tribes of Judah were a coalition of tribes from the people of Israel. The southern tribe of Judah was the counterpart to the northern tribe of Israel. Ezra. A priest who descended from Aaron’s son Phinehas by way of Zadok (Ezra 7:1-5) and the author of the book of Ezra and probably also of Nehemiah and 1-2 Chronicles. He returned from the exile with Zerubbabel and was skilled in the Law of Moses. BACKGROUND The first six chapters of the book of Ezra record how the exiled people of the southern tribe of Judah returned to Jerusalem. “Now in the first year of Cyrus king of Persia, that the word of the Lord by the mouth of Jeremiah might be fulfilled, the Lord stirred up the spirit of Cyrus king of Persia, that he made a proclamation throughout all his kingdom, and put it also in writing, saying, Thus saith Cyrus king of Persia, The Lord God of heaven hath given me all the kingdoms of the earth; and he hath charged me to build him an house at Jerusalem, which is in Judah. Who is there among you of all his people? his God be with him, and let him go up to Jerusalem, which is in Judah, and build the house of the Lord God of Israel, (he is the God,) which is in Jerusalem. And whosoever remaineth in any place where he sojourneth, let the men

of his place help him with silver, and with gold, and with goods, and with beasts, beside the freewill offering for the house of God that is in Jerusalem. Then rose up the chief of the fathers of Judah and Benjamin, and the priests, and the Levites, with all them whose spirit God had raised, to go up to build the house of the Lord which is in Jerusalem” (Ezra 1:1-5). Fifty-eight years had passed between the dedication of the temple in 516 B.C. and the arrival of Ezra in Jerusalem. “Now after these things, in the reign of Artaxerxes king of Persia, Ezra . . . went up from Babylon” (7:1, 6). The words, “after these” connects the completion of the building of the Temple with the arrival of Ezra in Jerusalem. Because of his skill with the Law of Moses, Ezra came to Jerusalem to deal with questions related to the Law. After discovering no Levites were traveling with them, Ezra stopped at the Ahava Canal, sent leaders of his traveling party to approach Iddo, and made a request of Iddo that he permit some of his ministers to travel with them. Ezra then proclaimed a fast to seek protection from God while they traveled because he had refused the protection of the king. After the fast, they departed, going toward Jerusalem. Traveling with the money given by the Persian people and the remaining Babylonian exiles, Ezra declared the money they were traveling with as holy to God. “And I said unto them, Ye are holy unto the Lord; the vessels are holy also; and the silver and the gold are a freewill offering unto the Lord God of your fathers” (8:28). The declaration to call the men and the money they carried holy transferred them from the secular realm to divine service. IN DEPTH 1. Doing Service (Ezra 8:24-27) Ezra, the priest, led a second group of exiles back to Judah and Jerusalem approximately 80 years after the first group had returned. Even though he knew God’s had promised to protect His people, Ezra still led the people in praying and fasting before such a monumental undertaking; asking God to be with them on the journey (Ezra 8:21-23). As a priest, Ezra “knew that God’s blessings are appropriated through prayer” (Life Application Study Bible, NLT, 735). Now that they had done their preparatory work, it was time to carry out the service of the Lord—get the job done. Therefore, Ezra appointed 12 leaders of the priests (Sherebiah, Hashabiah, and 10 other priests) to be in charge of transporting all the cargo— the silver, the gold, gold bowls, and the other items—that the king, his council, his leaders, and the people of Israel had presented for the Temple (vv. 24-26). They were in charge of a vast

treasury that equaled “24 tons of silver, 7,500 pounds of silver utensils, 7,500 pounds of gold, 20 gold bowls, equal in value to 1,000 gold coins, 2 fine articles of polished bronze, as precious as gold” (Life Application Study Bible, NLT, 736). God was with Ezra (a godly leader) and this group of exiles, who traveled the dangerous route back to Judah and Jerusalem, without military escort (8:22). They arrived at their destination after several months without harm. 2. Consecrated for Service (vv. 28-30) With his declaration, “Ye are holy unto the Lord: the vessels are holy also” (Ezra 8:28), Ezra commissioned the leaders of the priests and the offerings they carried into service for God. To consecrate simply means to be set apart for the sole purpose of service to God. Every object used in Temple service, therefore, was dedicated to God. Ezra 1:1 demonstrates how the king of Persia obeyed and then served God. With his statement describing how the Lord stirred up his spirit, the king was being placed into position by God to set the stage for Ezra’s return to Jerusalem. The king continued his declaration of obedience to God by saying, “The Lord God of heaven hath given me all the kingdoms of the earth; and he hath charge me to build him an house at Jerusalem, which is in Judah” (1:2). SEARCH THE SCRIPTURES 1. What was the purpose in giving an account of the offerings (Ezra 8:26, 30)? 2. Why did Ezra set the 12 leaders of the priest apart (vv. 24, 28)? DISCUSS THE MEANING What God has designated for His use will always prosper. If we agree with this statement, why do we act first, before seeking guidance from God? LESSONS IN OUR SOCIETY Giving is an act of worship to God. So if we truly believe in God and we truly intend to be the light in the world that God has directed us to be, we need to identify one need where we can sincerely make a contribution. Some suggestions are to volunteer at a local school; establish an after-school tutorial at our churches; volunteer at a local women or men’s homeless shelter; or permit a 12-step substance-abuse program to meet at our facilities. Once we have identified the need, our next step is to commit to that need with our time and when appropriate our finances. MAKE IT HAPPEN As our community is experiencing unusually high rates of unemployment, underemployment, and lack of affordable health care and decent housing, the one way to show that God through His Son Jesus Christ is compassionate is to extend ourselves as believers into the community where we worship. Let’s begin by helping one of our own, a family in need. After we have helped them to stabilize themselves, let’s go out in our community. We can do this by giving away food or

hosting a food distribution. We can also designate a portion of our benevolence offering to help those who encounter emergencies such as keeping their utilities on. As we commit to doing these acts of kindness, our satisfaction will come from the statement from our Lord, “Ye shall be holy: for the Lord your God am holy” (Leviticus 19:2). Our “holiness” comes from our obedience to God when we see the need and act on that need. FOLLOW THE SPIRIT What God wants me to do: REMEMBER YOUR THOUGHTS Special insights I have learned: MORE LIGHT ON TEXT Ezra 8:24-30 24 Then I separated twelve of the chief of the priests, Sherebiah, Hashabiah, and ten of their brethren with them, The mini-story in which we find ourselves takes place in the midst of a larger story— the kind often referred to as a “return story.” And a marvelous return it was: After years of exile under Babylonian and Persian rule, the Israelites embarked, in stages, on a glorious return to their homeland. Their return was a thrilling experience indeed, but also one fraught with danger. Long journeys in the Ancient Near East always involved the danger of harm from robbers or wild animals. For this reason, Ezra has just proclaimed a fast before the journey begins, “that we might afflict ourselves

before our God, to seek of him a right way for us, and for our little ones, and for all our substance” (Ezra 8:21). Interestingly, Ezra notes that he was “ashamed” (verse 22) to ask Artaxerxes the Persian king for help in their journey to Jerusalem (as Nehemiah would later do; see Nehemiah 2:7-9). Ezra notes that he had already boasted to the king of God’s power and goodness, and therefore he dares not imply to Artaxerxes that Israel’s God needed troops and horses to accomplish His deliverance. For the modern reader, it may be difficult to tell whether Ezra’s motivation was one of faith or fear; probably, like God’s servants throughout all ages, he was experiencing something of both. In any case, the issue is not the fragility of man but the faithfulness of God, and in Ezra 8:23, he records that God “was intreated of us” — that is, He heard their cry. Besides fasting and prayer, the other aspect of preparation for an important voyage, for ancient Israel, was the consecration (setting apart) of the priests. As those set apart to serve God by making sacrifices for the people, the priests were indispensable for a group of Israelites seeking God’s favor. But the absence of such priests almost shortcircuited the trip before it even began: “and I viewed the people, and the priests, and found there none of the sons of Levi” (8:15). As the definition of the priesthood in Leviticus 8 and 9 shows, God had commanded that Israel’s priests come from the tribe of Levi. Ezra was himself a priest, but as leader of the expedition, he could hardly fulfill all the roles of an Israelite priest. Thus, when he learns of the absence of Levites among his company, he sent a message to a local leader named Iddo, who sends to Ezra priests from among his own company (Iddo’s “place Casaphia” seems to have been some sort of gathering place for Jews in the midst of the Babylonian and Persian

empires; see Ezra 8:17, NLT). Thus, “by the good hand of our God upon us” (8:18), Israel’s voyage of holy purpose is able to continue. And the two priests mentioned by name here—Sherebiah and Hashabiah— come from the same company that God has graciously provided, through Iddo, for the journey. 25 And weighed unto them the silver, and the gold, and the vessels, even the offering of the house of our God, which the king, and his counsellors, and his lords, and all Israel there present, had offered: This verse begins a remarkable section that shows us, through the overwhelming abundance of valuable treasures Ezra’s expedition received, how powerfully God moved people’s hearts to pour out generosity on this important mission. But what is probably even more significant than the amount of the riches bestowed on Israel is the identity of the givers. “All Israel there present,” that is, the Israelites present at the time of Ezra’s departure for Jerusalem, is listed last among those who poured out generosity upon Ezra’s expedition. Listed before them we see the most unlikely sort of donors to the building of Yahweh’s Temple: the Persian king, along with “his counselors, and his lords”! How is it that a pagan king, who considered the Israelites a tiny and insignificant portion of his vast kingdom, would bestow vast wealth upon a small band of them returning to their homeland? One commentator has a helpful answer: “If the God of the Jews were no more than a name (he might have argued), the whole exercise was pointless; but if He existed, He would expect tangible courtesies from a king—and the scale of them should reflect the donor’s power and majesty” (Kidner, 66). This explanation seems to fit the way ancient kings perceived their own glory, and how all of their public demonstrations should be in accordance with that glory. But conjecture about the king’s earthly motives should in no way take away from our sense of wonder that God moved a

1-888-290-7277 pagan king’s heart in this way, and that the king gave much more extravagantly than he likely would have felt required to do (as the next two verses show). Truly, as the Proverbs have it, “The king’s heart is in the hand of the Lord, as the rivers of water: he turneth it whithersoever he will” (Proverbs 21:1). We can say that not just of God-fearing kings, but of pagan Persian kings as well! 26 I even weighed unto their hand six hundred and fifty talents of silver, and silver vessels an hundred talents, and of gold an hundred talents; We now learn just how prodigious the offering of the Persians and Israelites was. Given that a “talent” was the equivalent of about 75 pounds, one can calculate the enormous weight that Ezra and his band of pilgrims took with them on their journey. Ezra “weighed unto their hand” the amount, and the resulting figures were no doubt an enormous encouragement both to Ezra’s party of travelers and to the Jews already in Jerusalem rebuilding the Temple. The size of this offering would have no doubt funded the work of the temple and its priests for decades to come. But apart from true piety on the part of the people, these riches would have become stale, simply funding a sort of empty relic like the massive cathedrals of Europe that benefit from huge endowments but have little more than a flicker of true worship going on within them.

NEWS@RAISETHEPRAISENEWS.NET 27 Also twenty basons of gold, of a thousand drams; and two vessels of fine copper, precious as gold. The litany of riches continues with a description of “twenty basons of gold”— meaning 20 bowls, and probably refers to the bowls themselves being made of gold rather than being filled with gold. The King James Version translation makes the following phrase a little confusing; we might refer to the English Standard Version here, which says, “20 bowls of gold worth 1,000 darics” (about 250 ounces of coin weight). All of the ancient world’s precious metals are included in the offering, demonstrating how fully the people, both Jew and Gentile, gave without holding anything back. 28 And I said unto them, Ye are holy unto the Lord; the vessels are holy also; and the silver and the gold are a freewill offering unto the Lord God of your fathers. Ezra’s words here are words of ordination. Like the priests who were ordained and set apart in Leviticus, and then in countless succeeding generations throughout the life of Israel, these priests are themselves set apart (for being “holy,” in the Scriptures, always involves being set apart: consecrated for a special purpose). Also significant, though, is the fact that Ezra sets apart the offering as well: “the vessels are holy also.” Being on a spiritual rather than worldly mission, Ezra does not hesitate

in displaying to all present the nature of the offering that has been collected. “The gifts now belonged to the Lord and were thus changed from the profane to the divine sphere” (Fensham, 119). 29 Watch ye, and keep them, until ye weigh them before the chief of the priests and the Levites, and chief of the fathers of Israel, at Jerusalem, in the chambers of the house of the Lord. Ezra surely did not utter the words “Watch ye, and keep them” lightly; the Israelites were about to venture on a journey of hundreds of miles through hostile territory, all while transporting riches that anyone who was not royalty would find unimaginable. Even in light of their prayers and the clear signs of God’s blessings, their hearts must have trembled at what lay ahead. But Ezra speaks with the certainty of faith, assuming the people will arrive safely to the priests in Jerusalem and there display the wonder of what God has done in the hearts of both Persians and Jews. Again, Ezra speaks in the language of public ceremony; just as the first Temple was built after a massive offering from a people with stirred hearts (see 2 Chronicles 31), now the rebuilt Temple will be blessed with the people’s willing offering. The connection was surely not lost on Ezra, who had set

COURAGEOUS FAITH

JASON TROY LEWIS

“Courageous,” is a Christian based film that captures the life of four police officers who face the challenges of raising children, maintaining marriages, work and living godly. When one of them is shaken by the loss of a child, he creates a resolution for his best friends to keep him accountable as an integral man of God. All the men agree, not only to hold him accountable, but to join him in his resolve to do better as a Christian in every area of their lives. After watching this movie, I was convicted of the need for accountability in

my own life and resolve to do better. It’s rather easy to slip into the routine of life as we pursue goals and personal ambitions, that we fail to see the areas of lack in our lives. I’ve often been hesitant of making such vows out of fear of not being able to keep them, but that doesn’t mean we should try. With that said, might I challenge all who read this to make a resolution to do better in all areas of your life; and to seek accountable partners who will help you live a God pleasing life. I would like to share with you the resolution from the movie: “I DO solemnly resolve before God to take full responsibility for myself, my wife, and my children; I WILL love them, protect them, serve them, and teach them the Word of God as the spiritual leader of my home; I WILL be faithful to my wife, to love and honor her and be willing to lay down my life for her as Jesus Christ did for me; I WILL bless my children and teach them to love God with all of their hearts, all of their minds, and all of their strength; I WILL train them to honor authority and live responsibly; I WILL confront evil, pursue justice, and love mercy; I WILL pray for others and treat them with kindness, respect, and compassion; I WILL forgive those who have wronged me and reconcile with those I have wronged; I WILL learn from my mistakes, repent of my sins, and walk with integrity as a man answerable to God; I WILL seek to honor God, be faithful to His church, obey His Word, and do His will; I WILL courageously work with the strength God provides to fulfill my resolution for the rest of my life and for His glory. ‘As for me and my house, we will serve The Lord. - Joshua 24:15’” Article by: Jason Troy Lewis, Executive Pastor, The Redeemer Church of Los Angeles, 1631 W. “KEEP YOUR EYE UPON JESUS”

Hebrews 12:2 reads, Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was wet before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God. These words are so powerful and are pertinent to carrying out the instructions indicated in the first verse of this chapter that precedes it. “Looking unto

course. This is what running with patience is all about. Patience here is about consistency and staying the course. To be given the target, the mark, the focal point of Jesus is nothing short of God doing all that he can to ensure that we finish strongly. The one who knows us inside out and has already predestined, ordered and arranged our end gives us the glorious opportunity to keep him as our personal point of reference throughout the race. That’s absolutely awesome. When you consider the fact that life is so full of challenges, struggles, and troubles or as the text indicates, “easily besetting weights and sins”, these are great words to run by - Keep Your Eye Upon Jesus!

STREET SURVIVAL

(In memory of the senseless demise of Trayvon Martin) There’re few rules in the street Safety is subtle and discreet Wise parents teach their young There is power in the tongue A street weapon is a stone At some point all is thrown The tongue can often prevent an attack Through a tactic called wise verbal combat Perhaps if boys and girls are taught In this life they will meet assault Even neighborhood watchmen pack a gun But can be tamed with the tongue Problems negotiated with the fist Puts the Peace Treaty at high risk The world is a violent neighborhood Every part of earth has bad and good It’s incumbent that all understand Life itself is a hostile land And rather than get into a brawl Do not hesitate to call the law Street skills are what a parent must teach There’s power in the proper speech The tongue wage peace or declare war The results are based on who you are

Jesus” speaks to focus, attention, and one’s current point of reference. We are therefore encouraged to direct our gaze toward Jesus. The writer then qualifies the object of our attention, Jesus, by citing that he’s the author and finisher of our faith. With that being the case it certainly is to our sole advantage to follow this instruction joyfully and willingly. It’s a sure guarantee for a successful run. In my estimation a successful run is not only one that is completed by making it to the finish line but one that is consistent from start to finish without incident. No starting and stopping. No falling and quitting. No distraction and veering off

THE PROCESS....

by Andrea Andrews

No temptation has overtaken you that is not common to man. God is faithful, and he will not let you be tempted beyond your ability, but with the temptation he will also provide the way of escape, that you may be able to endure it. - 1 Corinthians 10:13 As Christians rarely do we consider our character-

NEWS@RAISETHEPRAISENEWS.NET

THE GIFT OF SELF CONTROL

istics to be parallel to those of The Holy Spirit. So often we are conditioned to focus in on our sinful nature that we fail to acknowledge or embrace how much we are like God. Though we are NOT God, scripture assures that He does live within each one whom He creates and that we are made in His own image. Galatians 5:22-23

highlights the characteristics of God - the latter being “self control”. Many would declare this to be perhaps one of thee most challenging characteristics (running neck and neck with forgiveness and faith), but God promises that we will never be tempted beyond our power of resistance. No matter what our “thorns” may

be, the truth is we can not be victorious over them without the power of The Holy Spirit. In and of ourselves we can do nothing... Praying for God’s grace and His provision for an escape hatch is essential to winning the race. This is God’s promise to us. Peace, Love & Blessings Www.theprocesschristiancounseling.com

HANDLING CONFLICT

Workbook: Equipping Ministries Training

DR. JOYCE HARRELL

When conflict arises in your ministry, how do you handle it? Do you attack it head on

or run from it? I’ve found that leaders usually try to avoid conflict. On one hand that would appear to be a good thing, but on the other hand ignoring or avoiding conflict can have disastrous outcomes. Scripture teaches us how to address conflict; yes God has given a foundation and principles on how to handle conflict. Presenting these facts in leaders training, or in your ministry meetings before con-

flict arises will encourage your team members to not abandon the ship. They will understand that conflict will be a part of the Christian life and that there is a way to handle it. That way is God’s way. Here are some tips on how to avoid conflict: First of all, move from familiar confidence in manipulation Secondly, be careful not to turn expectations into demands. Thirdly, operate with the decided mindset of making no

provisions for Satan’s level of operation. Fourthly, decide regularly to embrace the power of the gospel and do not rely on your own strengths, such as making decisions based upon your abilities, but learn to put your faith in God into action. Lastly, learn to listen, and help others learn to listen. When something has been stated, ask the person, “ok, what did you hear me say?” or, “what do you think I’m asking you to do?”

You’d be surprised how these simple steps can alleviate conflict. Dr. Joyce is a lay-person, under the leadership of Pastor Ticey Brown, at Mt. Tabor Missionary Baptist Church, where she serves as the Strategic Leadership Director. Dr. Joyce’s mission is to develop servant-leaders and enhance ministries within the Church; she is available for workshops and seminars. I HAD A DREAM “And Joseph dreamed a dream, and he told it his brethren: and they hated him yet the more.” Genesis 37:5 (KJV)

LADY DR. PHELENCIA A. WHITE

Dreams…Dreams that change the very fabric of humanity. (Isaiah 14:24; Acts 4:28-31) Joseph dreamed and most certainly he wouldn’t be the last. (Joel 2:28-32; Acts 2:17-21) Sadly, some dreams shared can cause challenges for God’s anointed. So disheartening it is when those challenges come by way of

those in your own “family”. (Matt. 12:48-50) Joseph was SPECIAL. (Jer. 1:4-5) He didn’t even realize it because he wasn’t TRYING TO BE SPECIAL. God declared him FIT FOR PURPOSE to be the recipient of a dream which would ultimately make him hated by his own and accepted by others. (1 Tim. 4:1-5) Yes, Joseph enters the scene feeding the flock right alongside his brethren. He was doing the SAME THING AS EVERYBODY ELSE while never realizing the PROPHETIC MANTLE upon his life for it had yet to be revealed to him. (1 Peter 4:10-11) So LOVED AND FAVORED was Joseph by his

father that he made for him a coat of many colors. (Psalm 75:6-7; Prov. 3:27-35) His coat could have been used as a type of public coronation giving testimony of the many gifts, talents and abilities that were interwoven into the very fabric of his life. (Jer. 1:4-12) HIS BROTHERS WERE JEALOUS OF HIM…ALL BECAUSE OF WHO HE WAS! So hateful they were that they could not even speak peaceably with him. (vs. 3; Luke 6:45) I can only imagine that IN THE PRESENCE of their father JOSEPH WAS DEEMED TO BE THE PROBLEM as they PRETENDED TO BE THE EPITOME OF RIGHTEOUS-

NESS! (1 John 4:20-21) Still Joseph loved them looking beyond their faults. (Matt. 18:21-22) Despite their actions, he found contentment in his own place, in his own space. (Ps. 1) However, they did not. (James 3:10-18) Despite everything they did to Joseph, he still desired to have a relationship with his brothers but their hearts were EVIL. (Jer. 17:5-10) Joseph had a dream! Not a bright idea of his own making to promote himself. He simply had a dream. A dream, a series of thoughts and impulses, not of manmade volition but rather caused by a spiritual awakening of his subconscious mind. HE

DREAMED! As he awakened from it, he realized that he had seen something that had not been, the probability of being which he knew not. He ONLY WANTED TO SHARE IT with those HE LOVED. There was NO CELEBRATION OF THE POSSIBILITIES …JUST CONDEMNATION FOR THE VERY THOUGHT. God gave the dream to the one who would ESTEEM OTHERS HIGHER than himself and ultimately GOD THE MOST! (Phil. 2:3-11) So he told them the dream, “For, behold, WE WERE BINDING…” (Matt. Continued On Page 15 I HAD A DREAM....

4:12-13) THE DEVIL NEVER HAS ANYTHING TO OFFER OF VALUE TO GOD BUT ALWAYS WANTS SOME RESPECT! (Matt. 4:8-11) And immediately his brothers respond by saying, “Shalt though indeed reign over us? his heart to study God’s commandments (7:10) and knew both the glory of Israel’s history and the greatness and certainty of God’s promise of restoration. 30 So took the priests and the Levites the weight of the silver, and the gold, and the vessels, to bring them to Jerusalem unto the house of our God. A summary verse of obedience, like the one above, is common in the Scriptures. A drawn-out form of this kind of summary is found in Joshua 24, where the people repeatedly resolve to obey all that the

Lord has commanded, and then are dismissed to their homes (Joshua 24:28). In this way, Ezra once again echoes a form historic and meaningful to the people of Israel, encouraging them regarding God’s intention to renew and restore His people. And the precious offering they carry with them, described here again as a “weight,” reminds them of the danger ahead—but also of the weightiness of God’s glory among them. For He alone could have produced such an abundance by creating willing hearts among so many of those made in His image, whether

they consciously worshiped Him or not! Sources: Bible Words – Phonetic Pronunciation. http://www.betterdaysarecoming.com/bible/ pronunciation.html (accessed January 21, 2012). Fensham, F. Charles.
