Program Note

Storm is scored for violin ensemble in four parts ranging in level of difficulty (Violin 1: most difficult but still easy beginner level; Violin 4: least difficult) and various percussion including both pitched and unpitched instruments.

It is divided into four different movements (each 1 to 2 minutes in length) featuring a different type of storm: a monsoon, a tornado, a hurricane, and a blizzard. The piece is meant to teach both about the different storms and how we can convey an idea of a storm in music.

The violin parts will utilize different levels of simple extended techniques such as tremolo and sul pont. Similarly, the percussion parts will provide both a rhythmic foundation and additional color for the violin ensemble.

Movements:

1. Monsoon

2. Tornado

3. Hurricane

4. Blizzard

Duration: 7:30

Instrumentation: VIolin 1, VIolin 2, Violin 3, VIolin 4, Bass Drum, Snare Drum, Crash (or Suspended) Cymbal, Triangle, Xylophone

I. Monsoon
