Clean Air Council welcomes you to the 2019 Greenfest Philly presented by Toyota Hybrids!

For over 50 years, Clean Air Council has been fighting for everyone’s right to a healthy environment and for the past 14 years we’ve been happy to bring you Greenfest Philly, the region’s largest sustainbability festival. The festival’s 100+ sustainable business and organizations makes Greenfest the place to learn about living life a little greener while having fun!

Greenfest Philly is returning to the beautiful tree-lined Bainbridge Green, which is just a block south of South Street on Bainbridge Street between 3rd and 5th Streets.

This year, we’re especially excited for attendees to take sustainability into their own hands by participating in our DIY workshops. Whether it’s learning about how to improve air quality in your home, how to go zero waste, or how to fight Trump’s reckless environmental rollbacks, these workshops teach important skills that make an impact.

Since its launch in 2006, Greenfest Philly has been a model for producing sustainable events. The festival demonstrates its commitment to reducing its environmental impact by using power from two large solar powered generators, recycling and composting over 80% of waste, and providing attendees with a complimentary bike valet. All festival exhibitors are evaluated by Clean Air Council to ensure they are providing services, information, or goods that are sustainable.

Clean Air Council is excited to introduce brand new workshops to Greenfest Philly! Our partners have worked hard to put together workshops in two-hour chunks to allow you to wander over and learn a thing or two about various topics, hands-on.

Green Wall and Computer Retrofits - Tent A 11:30

Climate Action Workshop - Tent A 1:30

This workshop offers ideas for building your own Green Wall (also known as “Living Walls”), and reducing eWaste. The Green Wall systems discussed will range in complexity from ornamental systems to more complex systems that allow people to grow food and use nutrients from their kitchen waste (compost).

While you are at the workshop learning about Green Walls, you can also pick up free software that can extend the life of your old computer. If you bring your old laptop to GreenFest, you can test it right there.

Methane pollution from natural gas infrastructure is becoming the dominant greenhouse gas, increasing heat and precipitation in the city of Philadelphia. At our Climate Action workshop, Clean Air Council staff will discuss the causes, effects and solutions to climate change while distributing personal fans and home weatherization kits to help Philadelphians cope with the effects of climate change. Council staff will also discuss how to stop the dangerous undoing of federal methane leakages standards by the Trump administration.

Citizen Air Montoring - Tent B 11:30 For years, Clean Air Council has been working on Air Monitors with residents near polluting facilities. Not only will these monitors hold polluters accountable, they’ll do so by empowering the residents affected by pollution to advocate for the changes that best meet their needs. Learn what it means to monitor your person air quality.

Zero Waste Recipes and Films - Tent B 1:30 Living zero-waste is far from easy, but it’s also not as hard as you may think. Learn zero-waste strategies first hand from Philly’s own zero-waste film studio, Fishtown Films. Simple strategies like bringing bags and containers to stores and simply refusing single-use plastics allows this studio to make art, not trash.

Philly Swap at Greenfest Clean out your closets and bring your clothing, accessories, toys, books and more! Philly Swap and Greenfest have teamed up to bring a community swap to Philly’s Greenest street festival.

How does it work? Bring your gently used items to Greenfest to receive free entry to the swap area or make a $5 donation. Upon entering the swap, you are free to roam and take what you’d like. We just ask that you stay mindful of others and leave enough for everyone to discover a good find.

About Philly Swap: What started as just a clothing swap, Philly Swap has since inspired the swapping of all things! From exchanging ideas and supporting collaborative projects in communities, to promoting recycling and up-cycling of textiles, crafts and clothing, Philly Swap is dedicated to the act of sharing resources, skills, and imagination. Philly Swap hosts workshops, demonstrations, and other events to continue the spirit of swapping and creative reuse in neighborhoods throughout the Philadelphia area.

Local Beer Garden Love City Brewing pouring your favorite beer in the Greenfest Philly Beer Garden from 11am to the end of Greenfest at 4pm. Conveniently located right by the stage and food trucks, the beer garden is a great place to grab a local brew, watch some local bands or play some games in the garden.

Local music is more sustainable than music that is shipped thousands of miles to your ears.

Dirty Dollhouse Playing at 2:30 PM

Dirty Dollhouse is the retro/folk/pop music of singer-songwriter Chelsea Mitchell with accompaniment by a rotating cast of Philly’s best and brightest.

The group’s signature sound comes from century-spanning influences, confessional lyrics, and layers of harmony.

Driftwood Soldier

Playing at 1:00 PM

Driftwood Soldier isn’t your average mandolin-bass foot-stomping gutter-folk duo. Growling and crooning, muttering about lost love, brimstone, and the glorious view from the underside of a rusty world-order, mandolin and foot percussion holds the rhythm while bass notes stretch into lyrical vines that vibrate somewhere north of your liver and flower unexpectedly at night.

Hannah Mayree Playing at 11:30 PM

Hannah Mayree is a Sacramento, CA born singer, songwriter and music educator incorporating African rhythms and diverse European and American folk traditions to express the profound mystery contained within all beings.

Her music connects urban and rural ways of life and invites the listener to reconsider the boundaries between the masculine and feminine, the world of matter and the world of spirit.

Sustainable Food DR. WUTZIT’S WONDER BALLS The enigmatic Dr. Wutzit has traveled the globe gathering recipes and peddling his famous Wonder Balls. His current base of operations is Philadelphia, PA. PAPERMILL FRESH ASIAN KITCHEN It all started as an obsession with fresh spring rolls, a random trip to a rice paper factory in Vietnam and a couple of recipes from the owner’s Korean mother. Recipes were perfected at a farmers’ markets at Bondi Beach in Australia before landing in Philly.

And for dessert....

Lil’ Pop Shop and Mompops are both surving up their unique brand of delicious, gourmet, popsicles made from locally-sourced ingredients. The quuestion isn’t “which one is better”, the questionis which popsicles FROM EACH should you get? We recommend you round up some friends to justify trying a couple flavors from each and pass them around so you can get a sample to best choose your favorite flavor for round two.

Vegan Cooking Demos

This feature has grown into one of our most popular. Not only are these cooking demos a live, interactive cooking show at your favorite sustainability festival, it gives you a literal taste of the dishes they are teaching you to make!

11:30 & 12:30 - Selene Williams from Joshua’s Catering shows her unique approach to vegan crab cakes and tacos, with fruit spring rolls for dessert.

11:30 & 12:30 - Chef Joseph Solar from The Greyhound Cafe returns for a third year to show off his version of vegan Chicken Piccata and Rigatoni Fra Diavolo.

Family Fun Geenfest Philly’s Kids’ Corner Features Include: Crafts & Activities – Clean Air Council will have a number of sustainable make & take crafts that are both educational and fun! Kids can also enjoy games and activities to stimulate their minds between learning about sustainability.

“How Kids See Climate Change” – Children will be provided with materials to draw a picture showing what climate change means to them. Clean Air Council will not only provide art supplies, but a gallery space to show off the childnrens’ art whicl they continue around the festival.

Rock Climbing Wall – Kids and adults can catch climbing fever and try their hand at scaling a 25 foot rock wall. The Rock Wall is free to climb the entirety of the festival: 10 am to 4 pm and is located on the south lane of Bainbridge Street, just east of 5th/Passyunk (look left of the stage).
