Welcome Message from Kevin and Susan Lane

We welcome you all to Rolling Stock Networking, an international exhibition focused on Passenger and Freight Rolling Stock, Technical Enhancements, Depot Equipment, Ancillary Services and the Railway Supply Chain.

We are delighted to report that RSN 2025 sold out an astonishing 10 months before the show date, and that our 2025 edition will take place on 3rd July 2025. We were able to expand the show for 2025 by creating additional stand spaces, providing for more exhibitors than in previous years.

The show has attracted the great and good with new builders, the heavy maintainers, systems integrators and depot equipment suppliers all taking their places, as anticipation builds for a great day of exhibiting and networking.

The show will always be free to attend, but offers the quality of content normally only seen at events that charge delegate fees. It is our mission to bring the lowest cost exhibiting opportunities to the market, enabling everyone in the rail industy to take part in the show.

We firmly believe that unlike any other show, RSN offers a community feel for the rail industry, where visitors and exhibitors are enthused by the buzz the event provides and the relaxed but efficient networking experience. RSN is the place where contacts are made and relationships are formed.

RSN 2025 now in its 6th edition, is a day well spent and is firmly established in the railway calendar.

Whilst the show is organised by a small team, we recognise the contribution that our substantial show partners bring to the event.

We particularly thank Rail Industry Connect, Rail Business Daily, Railway-News, Railway Industry Association, BusinessDaily, Jobson James Rail, Delta XD, Derby Arena, Derby Live and the many friends that have helped us to shape an event with something for everyone.

We are also delighted that for 2025 we have a superb outside display, an 08e Shunter Locomotive provided by Positive Traction that is fully converted to battery power.

RSN remains a show that is organised by railway people for railway people. The event is not owned by a media company and everyone in our team works day to day in the rail industry.

We would like to think that our everyday engagement in the industry has helped us to shape a superb event for you, that whilst affordable and accessible, also delivers high quality opportunities and information to help you to increase your market share in rail.

Most importantly we thank our exhibitors and visitors and wish that you all have a very successful show.

1 Great Show 172 Participants Endless Opportunities

Without doubt THE supply chain event for the UK rolling stock industry

Rolling Stock Networking is without doubt THE supply chain event for the UK rollingstock industry. RSN will return to Derby on Thursday 3 July 2025.

Combining an exhibition with over 150 exhibitors from across the rolling-stock supply chain, a conference organised by the Railway Industry Association, a number of ‘Meet The Buyer’ opportunities, a Digitisation Forum, a proliferation of product launches and demonstrations, it really is an event that is not to be missed.

Last year was a record year, with more stands and more visitors than ever before. 2025 is expected to be even better. Stand space was sold out within weeks of the 2024 show closing, and organisers Kevin and Susan Lane have even managed to squeeze in an extra couple of stand spaces.

Most exhibitors from last year are returning for 2025. These include several major train manufacturers as well as smaller equipment suppliers and SMEs (small and medium-sized enterprises).

Dave Potter, head of locomotives for Stadler Rail Services in the UK, commented at the end of last year’s show: “Today has been a great event. Busy as ever, with lots of industry experts, and it’s always a worthwhile show attending.”

Lewis Ball, senior buyer for CAF in South Wales, will be back for his fourth Rolling Stock Networking in 2025. “It’s a nice, energetic, highmomentum event where you get a lot through in one day,” he said after the 2024 exhibition closed. “A lot of meetings today and I will come away with a lot of interesting new suppliers I think we shall be using in the future.”

Paul Curry, managing director of PSV Wipers, comes to Rolling Stock Networking every year “because we meet the right people for our business”. Gareth Roberts of UKRL said “It’s been a conveyor belt of high-quality people right from the outset. It’s been absolutely non-stop, exhausting but brilliant”.

Garry Shuttleworth of Dellner Glass and Polymer Solutions added his view. “We love this show, it’s central it allows all our customers and all the people we want to speak to in a network environment, in a super concise pivot point day”.

“ At RSN you meet the right people to grow your business in rail ”

On Display

Before visitors even go through the front door of Rolling Stock Networking 2025 (RSN), they will come across the first exhibit – it will be hard to miss!

RSN Exhibits

Inside the exhibition hall itself, representatives from over 150 companies will be ready to meet visitors and explain how their latest products and services can save money, improve reliability and enhance performance.

Positive Traction has converted a Class 08 diesel shunting locomotive, originally built in the 1950s, to battery power. The resultant 08e locomotive features plug-in lithiumferro-phosphate traction batteries and is rated at 450 hp, although it is designed to be scalable to meet alternative client requirements.

The locomotive will be displayed outside the exhibition hall on a flat bed trailer provided by Reid Freight Services, the heavy-haulage expert that specialises in the movement of abnormal loads, including rail vehicles, throughout the UK and Europe.

There will be train builders on hand, both engineers and procurement staff, for visitors to get to know, discuss common ground and arrange to meet afterwards.

Other stands will feature Tier 1 suppliers, those major concerns who supply the train builders with much of their materials. And then there will be smaller and more-specialist suppliers of everything from cables to fasteners, passenger-counting systems to CCTV, and lighting to carpets. Artificial Intelligence (AI) is sure to feature on a number of stands, as will various aspects of digitalisation and Big Data.

With the pressure on the whole industry to reduce costs, that requires innovation, as doing things “the way we always have” won’t come up with the savings the industry needs. So, attending RSN will give engineers a host of ideas on how to incorporate innovations into their latest projects, and will show buyers how they can keep costs under control while building a better product.

Platinum sponsor Westermo will be showing off its latest data-network solutions for various applications within the rail industry, including critical and non-critical systems. Experts will emphasise the robustness, security, and rail-approved nature of their products, ensuring reliability and safety in rail applications.

Gold sponsor Railnova specialises in fleet and maintenance solutions for the railway industry. Its Railgenius platform allows for real-time monitoring of rolling stock data, enabling predictive maintenance and fault diagnostics. Railfleet helps streamline fleet management processes, including maintenance planning, work order dispatch and communication among stakeholders, while Railster devices enable the collection and transmission of realtime data from trains, which can be used for various purposes, including maintenance optimization and performance analysis.

Stewart Signs, experts in rail fleet livery and signage, is sponsoring an overhead banner and is one of around 66 Rail Forum members exhibiting at RSN. Another is AtkinsRéalis, one of the world’s most prominent rail consultancies, well-known as a developer of ideas and solutions for all aspects of rail.

Vivotek will be showing off its onboard surveillance systems that include high-resolution cameras, advanced WDR technology, rugged design and AI-powered features, including saloon cameras, forward-facing exterior cameras, and mobile network video recorders, tailored for railway scenarios.

But RSN is not all about engineering and new technology. Learning Partners delivers consulting, coaching and training services to over 20,000 people, from board members and managers, to a wide range of professionals and graduate recruits. Its training and consultancy services cover leadership and strategy, culture and values, operational excellence, talent management, team effectiveness, change and innovation, embedded e-learning and task automation.

Rail Competence & Compliance will be exhibiting alongside Transit9 from Dublin, promoting software that digitises the competence management process, while Capitol Industrial Batteries will be explaining the composition of batteries, how they are made and what they look like, so that buyers can better understand what they need when ordering.

Meeting and Networking

Many RSN visitors will come to network, either with people on the various stands or with friends and colleagues they meet on the exhibition floor. Networking is an important part of events such as RSN, and relationships made or strengthened by meeting at rail industry events can lead to business between the parties.

In addition, exhibitor staff will attempt to sell to visitors, or at least get them interested enough to consider what they have on offer, and invariably some visitors will attempt to sell their own offerings to the standholders.

“Meet the Buyer sessions give suppliers the priceless opportunity to spend up to 20 minutes talking with potential customers ”

Meet the Buyer

More formal in its style a buying and selling process takes place in the ‘Meet The Buyer’ zone. Short, formal meetings can be prearranged between exhibitors, and some visitors, and procurement specialists from various companies. Buyers and sellers can get acquainted and understand each other’s needs, opening the door for further meetings and future business.

Meet The Buyer at RSN 2025, sponsored and hosted by Jobson James Rail, the Rail Insurance Broker, will offer formal meetings with buyers from Alstom, Hitachi Rail, Buckland Rail, Keolis Amey, Loram, W H Davis, Wabtec, West Midlands Trains and Yellow Rail.

The Department for Business and Trade will also be meeting delegates, with international trade advisor Bill Smith looking to connect them with the appropriate services and information that are available. He will also be able to help in developing an Export Plan, guiding companies through the process as he has many years of exporting experience in rail and other highly regulated industries.

HS2, CAF and Stadler will have buyers on their stands, and Angel Trains and Siemens Mobility have confirmed that they will have procurement teams at the show.

Conference by Railway Industry Association

The Railway Industry Association (RIA) is organising the conference at RSN this year, which will be held on the mezzanine floor above the main exhibition stands. Speakers will consider the future outlook for UK rolling stock in the short, medium and long term, and will examine current options and proposals for the procurement of new build trains as well as fleet cascade and refurbishment.

There will also be discussion on how to adapt rail infrastructure and integrate alternative traction to achieve net zero targets.

Paul Baines of Siemens Mobility will consider the opportunities and risks of rail reform from a rolling stock manufacturers perspective, while Paul Long of Freightliner will look at the needs of freight operators when considering rolling-stock options. Greg Howell of Rail Innovations will talk on his favourite topic –innovation – and experts from Stadler, Angel Trains, Grand Central and Chrome Angel will also address the conference, which will be free for any RSN visitor to attend.

“Content of this quality normally comes with a significant attendance fee. At RSN it’s FREE ”

HUBER+SUHNER offers radio frequency (RF), low frequency (LF) and fiber optic (FO) cable assemblies that enable rapid data transfer and reliable power transmission essential to ETCS systems, as well as RF connectors for stable connections regardless of the effects of challenging environments. Innovative and customisable jumper solutions and cable harnesses are also available.

HUBER+SUHNER also offers project management with demonstrable experience in railway communication technologies. From planning to execution, our team can efficiently coordinate the ETCS upgrade process, ensuring timely and effective delivery.

Embracing FRMCS and 5G

The race is now on for the railway industry to transition away from the current GSM-R system to the 5G-based FRMCS. With this process set to be completed by 2035, manufacturers and operators will need to rely on solutions capable of supporting greater digitalization and overcoming GSM-R obsolescence. To support the industry, HUBER+SUHNER has developed a new SENCITY® antenna designed for both GSM-R and FRMCS, to ensure a smooth transition from one technology to another.

HUBER+SUHNER has developed a wide portfolio of different antenna types for high capacity of rail systems. As a result, operators can provide high-speed internet access for commuters while benefiting from features like real-time data transmission and predictive maintenance. These capabilities will also help with the ongoing FRMCS transition.

Far more than just counting passengers

Infodev AI-Based APC: The New APC Data Paradigm

Since 2016, Infodev has been working on developing the next generation of its counting technology. The goal was to not only surpass the performance of our previous generation of systems but also to go beyond “counting passengers”. Since our first pilot in 2019, the results have exceeded our expectation for both objectives. This technological advance has produced extremely accurate results, reaching a level of 99.8% accuracy (less than 2 errors per 1000 passenger counts).

The AI-based system can also detect different passenger types as well as objects typically found in public spaces and transit.

AI-based technology, enables us to explore and then meet requests for additional features, some of which are already implemented and others feed our constant innovation, conducted in collaboration with our clients. We are now elaborating upon some of these exciting new opportunities to harness additional functionality and data capture into our revolutionalry AI-based technology, enabling us to surpass alternative APC system capabilities.

Seat and Space Occupancy / Passenger Presence Detection System:

This option enables real-time monitoring of seat and luggage space availability. It can also eliminate cumulative load errors and flags abandoned objects. It provides insights into transit usage patterns, improving service quality, providing vehicle designers with passenger behaviour information and enabling resource management.

The data can be displayed graphically or transmitted in real time via APIs or to apps.

Tailgating Security:

We can identify if two people are trying to enter a specific space at the same time (for example: airport security gates or turnstiles in transit building).

Trajectory Monitoring and Counting:

Our system provides multiple-counting zones. It is possible to monitor passenger flow into and out of vehicles.

Micro-Information:

Our system provides micro information about the counts and operations. Some client told us they consider this very useful strategic data.

Infodev EDI invest substantially in R&D ensuring we are always at the forefront of innovation

Automatic Incident Reporting:

We can detect unusual situations. For instance people remaining on the door threshold, passengers too close to the driver or remaining in the driver area.

Fare Evasion Detection:

We are currently working on detecting fare evasion with clients.

Double-back counting and re-crossing:

Our technology has the ability to detect passengers who double-back if they can be seen outside even partially.

GTFS/RT:

Compatible with the Google General Transit Feed Specification / Real-Time.

Our exceptional counting accuracy and data quality, gives you the information to plan and manage your services

Infodev EDI - Accuracy Matters Why Settle for Less

lnfodev EDI inc, a Canadian company, has been at the forefront of developing and installing Automatic Passenger Counting (APC) systems for over 30 years. As an OEM, we excel in delivering fully integrated equipment solutions for operators and authorities looking to enhance their ridership reporting. We offer options ranging from partial fleet coverage to comprehensive real time.

Our latest innovation combines our proven APC algorithm with advanced Al technology to create an Al-based passenger counting and detection system. lnfodev’s Al-Based APC system achieved over 99,8% accuracy in high-density traffic environments during our latest pilot projects in North America.
