INCOME

Northside has many public parks and green spaces providing lots of community engagement and outdoor amenities such as hiking trails, playgrounds, and pavilions

An example of a park in Northside is Jacob Hoffner Park located at Blue Rock and Hamilton Avenue, with almost two-acres of green space including a pavilion, playground, and trees, that provide a great area for outdoor activities and many community festivals.

Northside has many great transportation projects that are in the process and is on a upward transition. Northside has been historically neglected and underutilized, but current and future projects are helping to change that.

The transit center in Northside is a fitting example of utilizing the surrounding area, with Northside being one of the busiest transit hubs in the city. Thousands of people utilize this center every day.

ZONING

The 1980s had a resurgence of popularity for Northside. With its proximity to Clifton’s universities, Mount Airy Forest, Cincinnati’s highway systems, and downtown attracted many young and first-time home buyers into this area, where undervalued home prices have abounded. Over time it has become known for its bohemian and diverse population of students, artists, the LGBT community, as well as young professionals.

The pride parade, now located in downtown Cincinnati, used to happen yearly in June in Northside. Recently, Northside has been holding a July 4th parade of artists, performers, and the like.

Up until 2013, Northside was home to the Gay and Lesbian Community Center of Greater Cincinnati. The center has relocated to only be online. cincylgbt.com

CULTURE

Our goal in this proposal is to tackle the issues of vacancy and representing the LGBT population in Northside.

OUR GOALS

We chose to create a plan for a large site close to Hamilton Avenue.

This lot, on the corner of Hoffner and Colerain, is currently a paved lot being used for storage.

Site Location Highlighted in Blue.

THE
SITE

Northside has been known for decades as a social space and recreation center for a large LGBT population, however we have noticed that there is no resource center available. As a way to add improvements and inclusivity to Northside we have developed a plan to create a resource center that would serve to aid and support the residents of this neighborhood specifically the LGBT community.
