News and Events at Rocky River Public Library

SEPTEMBER THROUGH DECEMBER 2024

A Message from the Director

Don’t you just love fall? As a lifelong learner, there’s always something special to me about “back to school” season. Maybe it’s the reintroduction of some structure after lazy summer days or the cooler fall temps that encourage getting cozy and reading indoors; the gathering of fresh school supplies and new clothes or uniforms; or that it’s the starting point to uncovering new knowledge and forming new relationships that extend beyond the school halls. An important role of the public library is to create an informed and engaged group of citizens that are well-equipped to advance the goals of their local community together. Whether you are one of our youngest learners, or have long since graduated, the Library is the perfect place to continue studying and connecting to information, especially on issues that matter most to you and your neighbors.

In addition to our storytimes, book discussions and technology programming this fall, you will see an enhanced set of offerings that focus on civics. The Library will highlight our programs, materials and resources offered to keep our patrons excited about their role in shaping the future of our government. Join the nonpartisan League of Women Voters to celebrate National Voter Registration Day and check your registration status on September 17 in the Library Lobby. Learn more about Ohio’s Redistricting Amendment with representatives from Citizens Not Politicians on October 22, and that’s not all: Artificial Intelligence (AI) is a hot topic in global current events. Learn more about this with Technology Training staff here at the Library on September 9.

Rocky River Public Library is an independent library participating in CLEVNET, a consortium of library systems that share collections across Northeast Ohio. It is supported by the residents of Rocky River and by a portion of the General Fund of the State of Ohio. The Library’s taxing authority comes only through the Rocky River Board of Education which, at the request of the Library, places periodic ballot issues before the public.

RRPL has a seven-member Board of Trustees, consisting of community members, which is the governing body authorized by the State of Ohio to establish policies and develop an annual budget. All Board meetings are open to the public.
