ROZZ MAGAZINE edition three

Hellooooo good people of the Rozz Magazine community!

We’re so glad that you’ve picked up a physical copy of our magazine, found it on Issuu, on our website, or however else you managed to get your hands on this because we have worked really hard on getting this to you. We’ve spent the last few years working as concert photographers and being involved in several different local music scenes in Europe and in the USA. The amount of raw, unfiltered energy and the love for music that so many of these artists show on stage and through their music is something that simply cannot go unnoticed or be kept to ourselves, which brings us to where we are now. Rozz Magazine is an initiative we started together to share some of the music and artists and shows that we love and think that you’ll love to. From indie to grunge to punk to metal and everything in between, this magazine is meant to encompass all of the things we love about music.

Our third issue has some articles we’re really excited about, including some exclusive interviews with some very talented artists, as well as some shows that we loved seeing this month. We hope that by the end of this magazine you will have found some cool new music, or got to read about an artist that you love! You can keep up with everything we’re doing and the production of the next magazine on Instagram @rozzmagazine.

We hope you enjoy this as much as we do, and if you know of an artist or a band or another creative (that could also be you!) who you think we should cover in a future issue of Rozz, feel free to send us an email at rozzmagazine@gmail.com. We’d love to hear from you!

All the best, Mars & Hugo

the Edition 3 Playlist

A little insight into what we’ve been listening to here at rozz this month. bad nerves’ new punk anthem, mood of a sinner’s melodic deathrock, and taking it back to 2008 with have heart’s pave paradise.

Under the Veil Mood of a Sinner

Bringing back goth influences from the 80s and 90s, this song takes soft melodic vocals and pairs them with deathrock instrumentals reminiscent of the likes of Christian Death or Horror Vacui.

Everyone knows and loves this one, but it felt necessary to include this month. This entire album from front to back is an absolute punk classic. Ride, ride, how we ride!!

Bad Nerves’ loudest, punkest track yet. It’s fast, it’s chaotic, it could get a mosh pit spinning before you could even finish reading this song description.

At the Gates of Silent Memory Fields of the Nephilim

A beautiful ode to literature featuring a passage from Aleister Crowley’s writing read in the most stunningly sinister voice you’ve heard yet. It’s eight minutes long, but worth every minute.

Freak Silverchair

If only Silverchair was still around and making music. At least before the band called it quits, they left us with a great discography that still hits. Freak in particular was definitely a highlight.

Pave Paradise Have Heart

Seemed timely to put this one on the playlist as the band reunites to play a few more shows. This song is perfect to put on full volume on a fast night drive by yourself. Or a good song to scream at the sun. Or both.

Eyes (Second Death) Voodoo Church

Voodoo Church is a band that has been often looked over. DIY recording has given their music an authentic sound that takes you from wherever you are right into a small dingy venue watching the show of your life

Finish Lefty Quarters of Change

Sick guitar riffs left and right, it’s bright, it’s dance-y, it’s one that’s been stuck in our heads for weeks. This band has come a long, long way from their start in 2017 as a high school cover band.

Distressed Horror Vacui

Horror Vacui’s newest single epitomizes what vampires would listen to if they went clubbing.

Victoria Reminders

Reminders is bringing that classic California surf rock sound to the UK and putting their own spin on it. Definitely a highlight of their debut album, Best of Beach Punk.

The formation of the band wasn’talinearstory, butratheraseries of twists and turns that ended with a collective of artists who all bring their ideas together to make what we know as DD Island’s discography. Brandon Rhodes initiated DD Island as his recording project, but it wasn’t long before Andrew Strader, with his bass guitar and vocals, joined forces with Brandon, bringing a wealth of experiencefromtheirNashvilleroots. Jeremy Batt’s addition on guitar and lap steel further enriched the band’s sound, adding layers of texture and depth. “We went through a lot of drummers, and like, had a hard time finding someone who was the right fit. mood of a sinner their debut album, favorite live shows, projects beyond music, inlfuences & more.

For fans of 80s and 90s deathrock and goth, Mood of a Sinner is a band that amalgamates haunting melodies with ethereal narratives, transporting listeners into a realm of introspection and exploration. ThegroupcomprisesNickyonlead guitar, Mortue as the vocalist, Tamayo as rhythm guitarist, Bianney on bass, and Chantalle on drums.

As of late, the band is working on theirdebutconceptalbum;theprocess towards creating it has been one fueled by passion and perseverance. Nicky describes the writing process as deeply gratifying, with each member fully immersed in the creative flow. Mortue reflectedalotonthechallengesofcrafting lyrics that align with the album's thematic essence, highlighting the intricacies of channeling a fictional character's perspective that is different from your own. Despite the challenges that come with making an album, the recording process is described as a learning experi-

ence, with each session bringing new insights and growth. Chantelle and Bianney both highlighted the collaborative dynamic of the band, as well as the band’s collaboration with a talented producer. From the theatrics of Christian Death's "Only Theatre of Pain" to the experimental sounds of Boris' "Absolutego," the band draws from an array of different albums and artists when writing their own music. Bianney draws inspiration from the bass lines of albums like "Seduction" by The Dance Society and "Deathwish EP" by Christian Death, while Chantalle finds

resonance in the raw energy of releases like "Boom in the Night" by Bush Tetras. You can hear how wide their influences are in their music, and it’s sure to be seen in their upcoming concept album. Thinking back on their live performances, Mood of a Sinner reminisces about standout moments that have stayed in their minds. From underground tunnel shows in San Diego to sharing the stage with iconic deathrock bands like Christian Death, each experience has contributed to their growth as performers. “We played at Til Two bar one night and while we

were on stage. I had a moment where I looked up and out to the crowd but couldn’t make anything out, just dense purple fog and my band mates. That moment stuck with me cause it felt like a part in a dream”, Bianney recalls. Looking ahead, Mood of a Sinner ventures beyond music with plans for a comic book adaptation of their concept album's narrative. This innovative approach seeks to immerse audiences in their fictional universe, offering a multi-dimensional experience that you can see and hear for yourself. The band also anticipates

their upcoming summer tour, preparing a hauntingly ethereal show to share with their fans. Mood of a Sinner has brought back the gothic rock of the 1980s and 90s, and they’re making sure that it is here to stay. randy hansen: the Genuine Hendrix Experience

Tribute acts have existed fordecadesandmanyofthemhave been overdone, or played out to seem more satirical than an actual tributetotheartist. However, there isonethathaslongprovedhisskills and his ability to channel another artist’s energy without merely being a clone. Randy Hansen (along with his band, the Randy Hansen Experience) has been touring the world as the Jimi Hendrix tribute act, selling out stages faster than youcansayhisnameandhissuccess is no surprise, considering his outof-this-world guitar mastery and hisshowmanship.

Randy first began a Hendrix tribute project titled Randy Hansen’s Machine Gun, which quickly garnered the attention of David Rubinson and film director Francis Ford Coppola. This inter-

action led to Randy playing a large role in the soundtrack for Apocalypse Now, (1979).
