Notes from your RO There has been lots happening in the region recently and there’s a good range of events planned for the remainder of the year and beyond. This is in no small part due to our volunteer photo-shoot coordinators, Leigh Foster LRPS and Robert Helliwell ARPS. Thanks to these two members for their time and effort, we are expanding access to a broader range of venues for everyone to go and photograph. Many photographers consider their activities as individual events, working better for them if they on their own and doing their own thing, and for some, their subject matter makes this essential. The visits which Leigh and Robert are arranging can be useful to everyone – come on your own, stay on your own; come with a small group, stay in the group; come to try something new, join in with others and share what everyone is doing: entirely up to you, depending on the venue limitations. I had the pleasure of attending the recent Yorkshire Wildlife Park event and enjoyed meeting a number of members and I am already booked in and looking forward to the next event in September at the Tees Barrage/WhiteWater Park. Photography from further afield - I am really pleased to be able to share with you that the Visual Arts Group annual print exhibition, will be at the Point, Doncaster, from 6th to 21st December, with the official opening on 7th December. This exhibition has traditionally held in various venues around London and will be well worth attending. Please check the website for final details before setting of …

… The 161st International Photography Exhibition (IPE161) is visiting Hull from 4th to 27th October. I took the opportunity to see this exhibition at the RPS gallery in Bristol. It contains 100 accomplished images by contemporary photographers who demonstrate an interesting mix of photographic styles and subject matter. We are continuing to run more ‘Photography - Development to Distinctions’ workshops and Advisory Days for LRPS and ARPS panels up to the end of the year and beyond. We are also very fortunate to have a number of active Special Interest Groups (SIGs) in the Region (SIG sub-groups), which run a range of events, trips and presentations, details of which do get a mention in this newsletter, where space permits, but, as always, keep an eye on the RPS website and for a full and up-to-date list of what's on, please visit the Yorkshire Region page (region 18 on the RPS website). Finally - RPS HQ are in the process of updating the RPS website, making this an opportunity to modernise the site and make it more accessible on mobile devices as well as streamlining and improving the ‘events booking system’. If you have any ideas about how the region could provide help and support for your area of photography, please let us know and we’ll share the idea with other members. Please drop me, or the newsletter editor, an email. Kind regards, and I hope to meet many of you at our increasing range of events, meetings and activities.
