Chair/Vice Chair of the Friends of Royal High School Bath
The Chair and Vice Chair are appointed annually at the Friends AGM in September for a maximum term of 2 years.
Please refer to the revised Friends Constitution which will be formally adopted at the 2023 AGM (date TBC). Copies are available from Francesca Orr (FOR), Alumnae and Community Liaison Officer (FOR) f.orr@rhsb.gdst.net
Shared responsibilities include:
Chair a committee meeting once every half term attended by committee members, staff, and parents. Set out the agenda and circulate it to the Committee, RHS staff via the Alumnae and Community Liaison Officer and parents. Dates are agreed in consultation with FOR, and 5 full committee meetings occur annually approximately as follows:
o Early-mid September - AGM
o November, after half term
o January
o March
o May
The Chair, supported by the Vice Chair, also oversees the arrangement of other ad hoc meetings of Friends volunteers related to the organisation of specific events and initiatives, as needed.
Evaluate funding requests received from RHSB via FOR, for review by the committee at the next committee meeting or via email if it needs an urgent decision. Advise the staff involved of the outcome and liaise with the Treasurer of the Friends.
Liaise with RHSB via FOR to discuss funding requests, plan events and 2-yearly Friends Bulletins, agree meeting dates and run the annual Friends Education Awards with the help of the Friends’ Education Award coordinator.
Help collate the termly Bulletin with RHSB via FOR and other members of the committee, namely the Friends Comms volunteer.
Keep the committee and wider school community involved as much as possible, by, for example, asking for help to write an article (perhaps on an event), ideas for fundraising, assisting with event sub-committees, funding requests etc.
Be available to help with events as and when possible or arrange for another committee member to run the event in your place.
Act as an ambassador for the Friends of RHSB both to actively recruit parent volunteers and promote the Friends activities. This includes attending, or arranging for a Friends representative to attend, parent school events, to speak to parents, especially new parents, and encourage them to get involved.
Liaise with the Friends’ Treasurer on an ongoing basis, and regarding the preparation of financial information prior to meetings.
Liaise with the Secretary of the Friends on an ongoing basis and, soon after each meeting, circulate the Secretary’s minutes to the Committee, RHSB staff via FOR and parents.
Monitor the Friends’ email address and be the main point of contact. For further information please contact hello@rhsfriends.org or f.orr@rhsb.gdst.net
