in partnership with Murrary Edwards College at the University of Cambridge
The Girls’ Day School Trust and Murray Edwards College, Cambridge are delighted to invite you to Choose Mathsa new academic partnership that aims to inspire you to consider Maths and Maths-related degrees in Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths at university.
Amongst the GDST’s 100,000 strong alumnae are women leading globally in professions where Maths has enabled them to become pioneers and changemakers. This programme aims to encourage you to follow in their pioneering footsteps in choosing Maths. You will be opening doors to an incredible range of enriching degree courses and contributing to greater representation of women in Maths-related careers.
Maths is the most popular A level subject for GDST students, with 37% choosing it for Sixth Form. GDST sixth formers have the opportunity to collaborate with experts in world-famous organisations to benefit from their insight and be inspired to take their academic passions further.

Autumn term
Further Maths: the superpower that takes you places | 14 October 2025 Year 11 and 12 students - Online
Staff and students at Murray Edwards College will share advice on:
▪ The benefits of studying Maths and Maths-related subjects at university
▪ The importance of Further Maths as a key enabler to an undergraduate degree in Maths and STEM.
▪ The range of degrees that Cambridge offers for which Further Maths is a prerequisite.
The session will be held in the same vein as CareerStart
Spring term
Further Maths immersion day at Murray Edwards College | 24 March 2026 Year 12 Mathematicians, with priority given to those studying Further Maths
▪ You will spend a day at Murray Edwards College, diving into the world of a Maths undergraduate as you meet academic staff, current students and recent alumnae.
▪ You will work on Maths challenges and have taster sessions of academic teaching at the University of Cambridge.
▪ You will have the opportunity to tour the facilities of the College, which includes the largest collection of Art by women artists in Europe, have lunch and consider the different degree options available.

Online Session with Cambridge academics and undergraduates Year 10 students considering Maths / Further Maths at A level

More about Murray Edwards College (MEC)
Murray Edwards College was founded (as the third only women’s college at the time) as New Hall College in 1954 by Rosemary Murray, with the aim of attracting female students with ‘creative and original minds’. It is an institution for outstanding women from all backgrounds, committed to improving the representation of women in STEM subjects, and particularly maths, at the University of Cambridge.
MEC alumnae include Dame Jocelyn Bell Burnell, Nicola Walker, Mishal Husain, Sue Perkins, Maggie O’Farrell, Claudia Winkleman and many others.
