Bath is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, with elegant 18th century

architecture, canals, rivers, green spaces and the world famous Roman Baths.

Bath is ranked as one of the UK’s safest cities according to the Complete University Guide.

Our boarding

Joining our welcoming community of boarders will not only help your daughter develop her sense of confidence and maturity when dealing with life’s challenges, but will also establish a network of friendships that can last a lifetime. We take great care to nurture every girl’s individuality and help her become an independent young woman with the courage to embrace opportunities, today and tomorrow.

Home from home

Described as ‘chic’ by The Good Schools Guide, our boarding accommodation is contemporary and comfortable.

Located in the splendid neoGothic main building, School House is a warm and nurturing home for boarders in Years 7-11 (aged 11 to 16) where they are supported both pastorally and academically.

Gloucester House is our Sixth Form house for students in Years 12 and 13. Girls enjoy single or twin study bedrooms, spacious communal areas, a large kitchen and quiet study spaces.

Here, they benefit from greater independence and freedom to prepare for life after school, yet remain integral to the boarding and school communities.

Our extensive programme of weekend and evening activities encourages our boarders to try new adventures, bond over shared experiences and ultimately have fun.

Walk around our beautiful site out of class hours and you’ll see girls playing hockey on our allweather pitch, working together on co-curricular projects or indulging their passion for all things musical.

All of our girls can rely on our dedicated and experienced Head of Boarding, Resident Housemistresses, Matron and Pastoral Care Team for support and guidance at any time.

“I can interact with different people from around the world.” Bwalya, Year 13

Flexible boarding

Our boarding is flexible to suit the needs of every girl. We offer full, weekly and flexi boarding options.

Weekly boarding provides the perfect opportunity for busy families to experience the best of school and home, with girls spending Sunday/Monday to Thursday nights in school and the weekends at home.

Flexi boarding can be arranged to suit your family’s needs, to a maximum of three nights per week.

Our boarding teams are also happy to accommodate the needs of occasional stays for all Royal High School students.

“Our daughter initially joined Royal High School Bath Senior School as a day student, but quickly transitioned to a flexible boarder. We found this suited our family routine and allowed her to take part in all the extracurricular activities.

We loved how warm and caring the boarding staff were and how easily she settled in. She has made some really good friends and enjoyed so many amazing experiences. It has really been a good decision for us.”

We pride ourselves on being a friendly and welcoming school, with opportunities for the girls to have fun while they learn.

We support each and every girl to thrive and achieve their best academically and socially too.

“You make friends for life within a cosy and happy environment.”
Amelie, Year 7

The weekend

Our exciting and varied weekend programme inspires boarders to try new activities, to make lifelong friendships, share experiences and have fun.

In addition to this, and in line with our core value of kindness, there are opportunities to contribute to the local community through volunteering and charity work, to celebrate faith, to practise musical instruments and, importantly, to relax.

We are fortunate to have the UK’s top sports university on our doorstep, which all our students can access for a variety of local clubs and teams including: netball, swimming, fencing or gymnastics.

“I love boarding. It gives me freedom and independence.”
Mathilda, Year 13

Our girls grow. They grow in confidence as we support them in uncovering talents, taking the initiative, making waves, pursuing their passions and reaching new heights.

We help them be the best they can be today, and in their lives beyond school, as they leave a positive mark on the world.

At Royal High School Bath we are proud to put girls first. As a school family, we are committed to bringing out the best in our girls, and put their needs at the heart of everything we do.

Our students enjoy the freedom to grow in self-confidence and independence, along with the support to undertake challenges to aim higher and achieve their desires in the wider world.

We nurture, support and inspire

Putting girls first

We are part of the Girls’ Day School Trust (GDST), a group of 25 schools across England and Wales, where girls learn without limits and are equipped to be confident, resilient and fearless.

Royal High School Bath is unique within the GDST as it is the only school to offer boarding.

As experts in educating girls we recognise that, for a variety of reasons, girls learn differently. So we have created an environment in which every girl is able to thrive.

We are committed to helping every girl fulfil her potential and her dreams, and gain the knowledge and social skills to flourish.

Our bursaries programme allows us to give gifted girls a GDST education, regardless of a family’s financial circumstances. Currently, we provide over 1,000 of these lifechanging bursaries nationwide.

Happy. Healthy. Confident. Balanced. GDST girls will make their mark on the world in their own way and on their own terms.

You can find out more at www.gdst.net.

“I love being able to get to know other girls in different years, we’re like a big family.” Holly, Year 7
