ME-TIME

Based on our conversations I put together this journey, which consists of 3 main sensory experiences. Throughout this journey I hope you discover things about yourself by exploring your new home and your creative skill set with an adventure personalised for you.

From my understanding New Jersey felt safe to you, the wide streets, friendly faces and the community you had there all made it feel like home. With these activities I hope you find yourself feeling more connected to New York. I want to give you a chance to slow down from your fast paced lifestyle that can sometimes make you feel overwhelmed, not finding time for yourself or to express yourself creatively.

I hope this journey makes you feel safe, calm and relaxed, as a first step discovering what path you want to take during your time here.

Hello Sarah, Enjoy it and good luck!

What to Bring:

- Journal or Notebook - Pen/pencil - Student ID - MetroCard
You will begin your journey at 49 Market St around 1:30pm.

Location 1: Happy Medium 49 Market St, Second Floor

Happy Medium is an art-cafe, they offer a variety of art classes; including watercolor ($24), collage ($24), charcoal ($15), and an option to bring your own materials and use their studio space to freestyle any medium you please ($20).

This activity was important to incorporate into this experience because I wanted to give you the opportunity to try out new art mediums and pick up on new techniques. You mentioned that you have been wanting to expirirment and try out new art mediums to further explore your creative skillset, but you hadn’t gotten the chance to, because you have a busier lifestyle, which has become even busier during your time in NYC.

I wanted to encourage that creative exploration in a relaxed environment where you wouldn’t have to worry about the outcome but just enjoy the moment and grow as an artist without any expectations to meet.

You mentioned not feeling sure about what direction you want to go in the future, and that you are most drawn to fashion, but with these classes could help you discover a new passion or hidden talent to reach a cleaer sense of direction for your creative goals.

Feel free to bring your own materials, but they provide you with everything you need for the classes. Reservations aren’t necessary but if you decide to sent them a message on instagram @gethappymedium.

You can stay at this location for up to 2 hours.

Directions

To get to the next location walk to the Grand St station (7-10 mins) once you get there take the B train downtown, and get off the train at the prospect park stop (SW corner exit), next walk to the 455 Flatbush Ave entrance (3mins).

Location 2:

Brooklyn Botanical Garden 455 Flatbush Ave

I chose this for your next location because, you talked about New York streets being narrow with llimited nature landscapes around, instead of just any park I wanted you to explore a large space filled with beautiful plants and flowers, maybe some you haven’t seen before or some that remind you of home. In New Jersey you were surrounded by nature and broad landscapes, In this city everything moves so fast, so I wanted you to take a minute to take in beautiful scenery without the constant hustle and bustle of Manhattan.

After walking around and exploring the blackberry lilies, shrub roses and many other beautiful flowers and plants; I want you to find an empty bench and get comfortable. What I want you to do is begin to observe your surroundings, watching childrens faces light up and people getting excited to see their favorite flower.

After you sit and take it all in for a moment I want you to begin mindful journaling, I will give you a few prompts based off of our interview feel free to disregard them and use your own.

How do I feel in this moment?

Is there anything causing me stress, if so why?

Are there any unresolved feelings from the past that are inturupting this moment?

What can I do to make myself feel relaxed?

What is most important to me?

The goal after this experience is for you to feel more grounded in the present moment, making sure that worries about the past and future don’t interfere with your presence. To also discover something new about yourself; you mentioned you were feeling a bit lost and worried about the future so this aims to be the first step in figuring that out.

Once you feel ready to leave, you mentioned you loved acai bowls, there is an acai bowl place called Jungle Juice Cafe (843 Classon Ave) walking distance from the 990

Directions

To reach the final location from the Washington Ave gate walk to the Eastern Parkway Brooklyn Museum station (5 minute walk) and take the 2 train. Go off the train at the Borough hall stop, then walk to the Brooklyn Bridge walkway starting point, which begins at the intersection of Tillary St and Brooklyn Bridge blvd (5-7 minute walk).

Location 3: Brooklyn Bridge Walkway

Walkway Starting point, Brooklyn Bridge Blvd

I wanted this to be the last stop at the end of your journey, so you could relax as you watch the sun setting and beautiful colors painting the sky, after a day filled with self exploration and self reflection. Self reflection can introduce some difficult emotions at times, or require alot of deep thinking, so I wanted you to just enjoy the sight of the sun slowly fading behind the scyscrapers without a thought in mind.

The Brooklyn Bridge is a common landmark that people want to tick off thier list when visitng New York, you get to take in the beautiful Manhattan skyline all at once while also being surrounded by beautful water landscapes.

The walkway can be difficult to enter from the brooklyn side because of the many overlapping roads, however as long as you make sure to enter from the intersection of Tilary St and Brooklyn Bridge Blvd you can easily find your way. And if you struggle to locate it just type Brooklyn Bridge walkway into google maps and select the address located in Brooklyn not Manhattan.

By the time you begin walking through the walkway the sun should begin to set. Sun sets represent an opportunity to rest and pause the thoughts stressing us out, and this location is the best place to see it, being right outside the city yet still close enough to appreciate its beauty from an outside perspective. A spiritual serene experience where you can sits with yourself and enjoy your own company.

Now that you have reached the end of your journey, I hope it helped you feel more grounded and connected to this city, and I hope it helped you explore yourself further and better understand who you are becoming. Thank you for allowing me to bring you on this journey!
