6th annual Goals for Gogo’s
The 6th annual Goals for Gogo’s took place at Kloof Country Club on Friday 21 April. The event was hosted by the Round Tables of Kloof 190 and
Westville 189

and a field of 88 golfers took part in the day.
While the day dawned cool and windy, the weather played its part and warmed up a bit before the teams teed-off. A phenomenal day was had by all with corporate sponsors coming on board to ensure that many of the holes had fun activities and good vibes. The evening was capped off with an auction of two holiday prizes, many thanks to Ian Wyles for coming through and conducting the proceedings. These prizes kindly sponsored by Pierre le Roux from MOZambique Magazine.
The Golf Day is a fundraising activity for sewing and business courses for ladies from the Valley of 1000 Hills whereby funds raised are used to source and acquire sewing machines and the ladies are taught how to manufacture their own clothing using materials from Hillcrest Aids Centre Trust. The ladies then take part in a business course which enables them to start their own small scale businesses within their communities and generate an income for their families.
Over the course of the last 6 years, over 80 gogos have taken part in the course, with 40 of those being further upskilled and completing an advanced sewing course. And then currently another 60 gogos are involved in their courses, 40 of these are in areas which are totally new!
This is a truly awesome project which is dear to the hearts of both Kloof 190 and Westville 189 and we are proud that the 2023 edition will be further adding to these numbers and assisting more gogos and their families.
We would not have been able to complete this project without the support of those corporates and individuals who took part on the day, most notably Grindrod Logistics Africa who, as the headline sponsor, contributed R50 000 towards the proceeds on the day. In addition, the golfers all looked extremely smart in their golf shirts which were kindly sponsored by Plumb Coring, Wetwork Plumbing, and Roto Tank.
To Kloof Country Club
, we are extremely grateful for all their expertise and advise when it came to organizing, special thanks to Mandy Kidson and Ryan Welsh for making sure that the day went off without a hitch.
