MEET RI PRESIDENT

GORDON R. MCNALLY

RIP Gordon joined the Rotary Club of South Queensferry, Scotland, when he was 26 years old.

He and his wife, Heather, had recently gotten married and wanted to put down roots in the community outside of Edinburgh.

A farmer they had met invited them to a Rotary social event and then to a couple of Rotary meetings, and before McInally knew it, he was on the road to Rotary membership.

Heather McInally is also a Rotarian, belonging to the Borderlands satellite club of the Rotary Club of Selkirk.
"Rotary helps create the conditions for peace, opportunity, and a future worth living. By continuing what we do best, by remaining open and willing to change, and by keeping our focus on building peace in the world and within ourselves, Rotary helps create a more peaceful world "

RIP Gordon Mcnally, 2023-2024

You asked, Gordon McInally answered

If you ask Gordon McInally anything about his upcoming year as Rotary International president, he’ll immediately stop you “It’s not about my year. It’s about one of Rotary’s years,” he corrects. “I’m a great believer in continuity, and I don’t see the years in isolation.”

Rotary News asked:

What are your core values, and how do they shape how you lead?

How can we reignite members of Rotary who appear to have “lost their spark”?

How can we motivate more Rotaractors to join Rotary clubs?

On a blustery October day, McInally (that’s pronounced MAK’ihn-al-ee) sat down with six members of Rotary’s communications team to take questions gathered via social media from Rotary members around the world He has a quick sense of humour and an easy banter that filled the room with laughter as a film crew set up boom mikes, cameras and lights In introducing himself as a member of the Rotary Club of South Queensferry, Scotland, he quipped about his distinctive speech: “Despite the lack of an accent, I am Scottish, and very proud of that fact.”

McInally’s Scottish heritage is apparent in his office, where a brightly coloured landscape painting by the Scottish artist John Lowrie Morrison adorns a wall. Scotland isn’t always as dreary as it is typically depicted, he notes “Sometimes it’s a very bright place ” In fact, there are a lot of stereotypes about Scotland that McInally is looking to move past. “The tartan, the plaid, it’s very traditional, very stereotypical,” he says. His presidential tie, instead, was inspired by the bright colours used by Morrison, his favourite artist, along with the colours in a seashell from Thailand that helped inspire his presidential theme. Among other colourful curiosities in McInally’s office is a giant cardboard rendition of his head, which he received after a Rotary institute in Minneapolis. Visitors are keen to hold it up for social media selfies. “I think they get more sense out of the head than they do out of me,” he says with a laugh

Goals for 2023-2024 VIBRANT CLUB EXPERIENCE

How members value Rotary is a reflection of the club experience. To improve the club experience we need to examine our practices, culture, image, and the membership experience we offer to identify strengths and address issues.

INCREASE OUR IMPACT

Let’s build the practices, infrastructure, and capacity needed to define, measure, track, and analyze data from our service projects in a much more effective way. Involve more partners in service and showcase Rotary to the local community through our impact.

WELCOME MORE MEMBERS

Let’s share our values with new audiences, create new ways to bring people together to experience the power of Rotary, and prove we are an organization that’s inclusive, engaging, compassionate, and ambitious on behalf of the world.

Our Sponsored Clubs

Rotary Club of Limassol Berengaria Cosmopolitan (RCLBC) sponsors one community based Rotaract club, one community based Interact club and one school based Interact clubs.

Through our members (Rotarians, Rotaractors and Interactors), we promote and share values that define Rotary: fellowship, integrity, diversity, service, and leadership.

Rotaract clubs bring together people ages 18 and older to exchange ideas with leaders in the community, develop leadership and professional skills, and have fun through service. In communities worldwide, Rotary and Rotaract members work side by side to take action through service

RCLBC sponsored and chartered in 2012 Rotaract Club of Limassol Berengaria Cosmopolitan (RACLBC), a community based club in Limassol, to create an environment for students and young professionals to do good and shape into the leaders of tomorrow.

Interact clubs bring together young people ages 12-18 to develop leadership skills while discovering the power of Service Above Self. Interact clubs organize at least two projects every year, one that helps their school or community and one that promotes international understanding. Rotary club sponsors mentor and guide Interactors as they carry out projects and develop leadership skills.

RCLBC chartered and sponsors since 2017 community based Interact Club of Limassol

Berengaria Cosmopolitan (ICLBC) and this year 2023, school based Interact Club of IMS Private School (ICIMS) in Limassol converted from a volunteering club. We created opportunities for teenagers in Limassol to join our movement in bettering our communities and benefiting from mentorship to develop personal and professional skills

Rotary Monthly Theme

Did you know that August is New Membership and Club Development Month?

All of us are ambassadors of Rotary and of our clubs.

MEMBERSHIP

Do you remember who invited you to Rotary? Did someone call you and invite you to your first meeting or did you seek out Rotary on your own?

Throughout the month of August, Rotary Membership and New Club Development month, we’re celebrating our clubs (Rotary, Rotaract and Interact), members, and all the good they do in their communities and around the world. While we join Rotary for many varied reasons, we remain because of the value it adds to our lives Through the friends we make and the lives we impact, Rotary offers us opportunities to engage with a global community and make a positive difference.

We encourage you to make the most of your membership through the many activities and programs available to the Rotary family.

DEVELOPING OUR CLUB

The world today is not the same as it was when Rotary began in 1905. Demographics have shifted, the pace of change has accelerated, and technology has created new opportunities for connection and service.

Vibrant clubs engage their members, conduct meaningful projects, and try new ideas. This is where we aim to be.

While August is a time when our club members travel back home, spend the much needed time with family during the Summer Recess, we brainstorm ideas we could bring to life and create an impact throughout the newly started Rotary Year.

Know someone great? You can refer a potential member to your own club and to other clubs around the world. Only current members can refer new members.

August

Welcome New Members

What is Rotary?

Rotary is 1.4 million passionate individuals in 46,000+ clubs worldwide. We are both an international organization and a local community leader. Together we lead change in our own backyards and across the world.

Impact starts with our members — people like you who see a world where people unite and take action to create lasting change — across the globe, in our communities, and in ourselves.

Who can join?

We’re looking for people who want to give back to their communities. Rotary clubs also welcome Rotaractors, Rotary Peace Fellows, and other members of the family of Rotary who wish to join

What are the benefits?

Becoming a Rotary member connects you with a diverse group of professionals who share your drive to give back. Through regular meetings and events, you’ll:

Discuss your community’s needs and develop creative ways to meet them

Connect with other leaders who are changing the world

Expand your leadership and professional skills

Catch up with good friends and meet new ones

Other benefits of membership include

The Rotary International Convention is our biggest event of the year. Rotary members from more than 130 countries meet at the convention each year to celebrate our successes and make plans for the future.

Rotary Fellowships give members the chance to join a group of people who share similar interests, hobbies, or vocations. Some groups use their fellowship to make a positive difference.

Rotarian Action Groups unite Rotary members, family members, program participants and alumni who share their expertise in particular fields by collaborating with clubs and districts on projects.

Rotary Action Groups are independent, Rotary-affiliated groups made up of people from around the world who are experts in a particular field, such as economic development, peace, addiction prevention, the environment, or water.

Action groups offer their technical expertise and support to help clubs plan and implement projects to increase our impact, one of Rotary's strategic priorities. This support includes helping clubs find partners, funding, and other resources. Action groups can also help clubs and districts prepare grant applications, conduct community assessments, and develop plans to monitor and evaluate their projects. Anyone who wants to share their expertise to make a positive difference can join an action group. Only Rotarians, Rotaractors, and Rotary Peace Fellows can serve in leadership roles.
