Rotana opens its first property in Muscat The debut of Sundus Rotana Muscat is part of Rotana’s strategic expansion plans
In a landmark move, as Rotana presses ahead with bold expansion plans, the company has opened its first hotel in Oman’s capital city Muscat. HE Ahmed bin Nasser Al Mehrizi, Minister of Tourism, officially inaugurated Sundus Rotana Muscat in the presence of owner Mohammed bin Mahfoodh Al Ardhi, and both Nasser Al Nowais, Chairman of Rotana, and Selim El Zyr, Co-founder and Vice Chairman of Rotana Hotel Management Corporation PJSC. The new hotel is Rotana’s second property in Oman, after five-star resort, Salalah Rotana Resort. As such, the opening
of Sundus Rotana marks a milestone in the hospitality brand’s strategic expansion plan in the Sultanate. Speaking at the inauguration, Nasser Al Nowais, Chairman of Rotana said: “Oman has always been a key growth market for us to expand into. We pride ourselves on identifying new and upcoming travel destinations people wish to visit and Muscat is growing in popularity. The opening of Sundus Rotana is an exciting one. Not only does it take us one step closer to reaching our ultimate vision but it has strengthened the company’s standing as the leading hotel management company in the region.”
Al Ardhi, the hotel’s owner, noted the importance of tourism and hospitality in the region. “Tourism is a key diversification driver of the Omani economy and it is our responsibility to help propel this vision forward and generate sustainable returns for Oman and its people. “We are honoured to be partnering with one of the world’s renowned hotel chains and bring their decade-long hospitality experience to Muscat,” he said. Conveniently located just minutes away from Muscat International Airport and the Oman Convention & Exhibition Centre, Sundus Rotana Muscat is perfectly suited to cater to both leisure and business travellers. The modern property offers 215 contemporary rooms and suites, along with six flexible meeting and conference rooms, a ballroom and a Bodylines Fitness & Wellness Club, fully equipped with a gymnasium, swimming pool and steam rooms. There are three signature restaurants to choose from: Ginger, for all-day dining, the Lobby Lounge café for casual dining, and the fusion restaurant Teatro. Rotana now manages 615 keys in the Sultanate between Sundus Rotana Muscat and Salalah Rotana Resort. The Omani government has set a target to increase the contribution of the tourism and hospitality sector to six percent by 2040.
