2020 HIGHLIGHTS

Donations

$17,311 in donations New exhibits completed Limited dates of service due to temporary closure for COVID and renovations. The rides and concession remained closed as well. The zoo offered private tours and parties.

On December 10, 2020, city council passed resolution 20-72 Spring River Zoo fees. The new fee structure will help the zoo accomplish our cost recovery goals. The resolution also has free days for the community.

While the zoo has been closed Education Coordinator Caitlyn Lenz has had to be creative to keep people engaged with all that has been going on with the zoo. One of the ways she does this is through Facebook lives with zoo critters and educational information. She also did private tours and parties.

Two fundraisers Five new animals

The Friends of Spring River Zoo hosted two fundraisers this year. Seal it with a Fish in February and a Golf Tournament in April. The Golf Tournament raised enough money to purchase the wallaby for the zoo.

Cashew (Cash) is one of two Bennet wallabies that are new additions to Spring River Zoo this year. The other is his brother Macadamia (Mac). Friends of Spring River Zoo donated $3,450 to purchase these new critters for the zoo.

The Pittsburgh Zoo donated the beaver.

Alexis is this year’s baby elk. She was born on June 13th, to Garrett and Patty, our five-year-old pair of elk. As part of this year’s End-of-Year Giving Campaign, we are raising money to build a new elk enclosure.

Bret, the mountain lion in his new exhibit

Construction on the new mountain lion enclosure started in February and completed in November. The zoo staff and Country Club Vet team moved Bret into his new enclosure on November 17.
