Living through a pandemic has shown us that physically distancing ourselves from one another can leave us feeling disconnected from the world, and anxious about the future. By addressing the constraints of social distancing while prioritizing the physical and mental wellbeing of the people, this space will offer relief to those struggling in solitude. Inspired by the organic growth of a tree, the Cambridge Recreation Center is following this mechanism by branching out its limbs to create small pockets of life suspended in the air. In these moments, the architecture intends to frame views, offer moments of relief, and create a warm environment for the user. Acting as a beacon from the exterior, the interior acts as a hideaway from the everyday stresses of life.
