Report Documentatoins, September 2012 Part 00 900 : text monologues and physical scriptorium

g.) This is what I am doing now- I am writing as practice. I am writing a structure in my body as I breath. I am searching for an organizing principle to direct my though as it moves through multiplicity.

00 TWO SENTENCE PROPOSAL I propose to experiment with the concept of language-border through my performative actions explorations of my body as text as a result of my experience of living between Bulgaria and Greece. I will reproduce the effect of my border-identity for the people coming at my house (as opposed to mainstream gallery) as a way to re-context the experience, re-include my self, and include others in me.

01 STATEMENT ON PROJECT My need to interact with others led me to investigate, interpret and propose ways to phisically engage with structures and with what I will call boundaries. I visualy imagine how I use my body as a test subject to investigate (border-) structures and my (border-) identiy resulting from the fuse of the discourse systems of Bulgaria and Greece, while living in-between the two. My personal study of a boundary is an ‘in between space’ - a fusion of performative actions on notions of identity and social sysytems, which I may later on use for my investigation on collective re-bordering.

I have recently proposed to conduct multiple per formative action explorations of boundary concepts through reflexive, reflective and structural experiments with the self, and contain them in structures (e.g. me, my house, language) and substructures (per formative spaces on chairs, walls, etc.), while using my house as the main site for experimentation and exhibition. Through these per formative engagements I hope to build a conceptual, per formative and written structures of meanings that inform my investigation on boundaries.

I see the idea of a boundary very much related to language– a type of an ‘in- between- space’ that I bring into the border, the country, the city, the neighborhood, the house, and into myself. These social structures create divisions, define the ways I think of spaces and descent into my everyday life. They determine very specifically how I move in space and even how I have to communicate with the outer.

02 ABOUT MY CURRENT PROJECT DEVELOPMENTS I explore different ‘boundaries’ I am experiencing through my identity.

I experiment with the concept of language border through my everyday per formative actions explorations of structures at my house and the exploration of my body as text. This is why, I propose a collection of performative actions as they come along my research (e.g. integrate the ways in which visitors want to interact with me).

Thus, I turn to search for a physical border-crossing-actions as a way to intersect myself trough texts, structures, people, and ‘contain’ myself in those.

k.) My current everyday practice is an over productive drive to mark my multiple-highly-fragmented voices through excessive writing/ floors with flying untranslatable pages- a type of absurd.

It seems natural to me to use my body as a test subject onto which I exert a structure and thus, I can direct my thought, so as to labor the movement of my multiple selves into a form, a method, a system, and an everyday ritual. This way, I can activate an every day process for making openings in space, where I can exist ‘borderless in a structure’.

The inability to keep track of and to direct my thoughts/voices by writing them into a specific structure (when it is absolutely urgent to communicate with the outer), has led me to consider using ready structures outside of myself and to superimpose my words through my per formative actions onto the structures in my immediate environment, and vice versa.

600 words documentation September, 2012 03 Diary Monologue : Understandable pages Since the summer I am writing. Writing.writing.writing. A door – doors. Many doors at the same time.

Monologue: MG unknown number/uncategorized My practice diffuses writing, writing, writing, thinking, talking, wandering, talking- not knowing how to talk, not knowing how to write and knowing; learning how to talk and looking for a navigating principle -a mess I find endurance in.

Where is the structure I need? Where is the organizing principle as I move through multiplicity? Structure. I start writing and everything gets dispersed into millions of interesting fragments, automatic writing, silence, voices and chaotic thought shifting its direction, which gives me freedom and movement. Reading. Reading, Not eating to read. Endurance. Multiplying my self and my though.

Talking. Writing.

RESEARCH REPORT RR 00 10 Since the residency I have observed many ‘crossing border’ artists and made my own interpretation of what excites me about their work: Jeremy Hutchinson (on border machines, inversions and absurd- snapping through performances), Francys Alys (visual experience of lines and borders), Guiiermo Gomez Pena (confusion, taking performances, irony), Gloria Anzaldua (mixing languages).

I have looked into experimental texts such as fluxus performaces documentations, Cixous, Letters of Linda Montano and more structured essays from Boris Groys, Dean Kenning, Linda Mary Montano’s (Performance Artists Talking in the Eighties), Robert Neudstat (Con)fusing signs and postmodern positions) and various articles in the Visual Culture reader by Mirtzoef Nicolas. I have observed projects by Sarah Openheimer (multiple openings in one structure), Melanie Bonajo (home objects on the body), Fluxus Happenings (prescriptions for performances and documentations in the form of one sentence) – all of which ignite new directions for my per formative experiments and lead me to the realms of the

unknown.

PRACTICE REPORT PR 00 10 I am currently willing to experiment with different directions through performance and text as I have been thinking about the tension of becoming and being something fixed.

That is why I have been experimenting with collecting text fragments from books, automatic writing, sound, creating semiimmigrant fruit identities and their voices and talking to people about boundaries, collecting their interpretations and things they send me. I would like to further experiment with ‘writing wrongs’, coordinating spontaneous writing and talking and the different identities I impersonate (‘become’) through those.

However, instigating a ‘talking performance’ at my house and an ‘experimental book’ compiling my writings, are central. Through these I hope to invent my own language structures.

WHAT DO I EXPECT TO FIND I believe that snapping through multiple performative actions is a way to instigate multiple possibilities before I hung onto something very specific so as to allow myself to look into alternatives. I have already become very specific with the site and medium and I feel I should further experiment with various performative actions.

And create a method for everyday performances and documentation.

I would like to create an every day method for performance actionsan adding system to navigate me through the creative process.

To explain what is it that I am doing? What is to be done?

THREE WEEKS AGO Writing about collective re-bordering TWO WEEKS AGO Writing about coconut making Coconut Art A WEEK AGO I was working on sounds (peoples voices and my voices) and mixing them. A sample of that is in the video below: LAST WEEK I have been looking into technology and surveillance cameras to

record what is going on at my house, even though I realize this will affect the home framework, as opposed to having moments of virtual public gallery/live feed. I am doing this so that I can find a way to document what is going on at the house (as opposed to photography which is suiting ‘the house’ intimate actions and visits) before (if) I discard the video. I am looking into different ways to communicate the project, having in mind that 'opening the doors' of my house is central when thinking of audiences and exhibition.

YESTERDAY Realized automatic writing doesn’t give me a structure in organizational sense; rather it allows me to create my own structure and proclaim it as such, but I will continue to ‘write and talk wrongs’.

THIS MOMENT I find it interesting to navigate my decisions about some directions I take through the conversations I am having with the people coming at my house. The house is a container (a tapper [preserving something that has very short life]- and a structure) but the door is open!

I am turning to documenting the process, my excessive writings, recoding conversations I have with people; thinking of documentation while something is in process (as it happens) or documenting it after it is finished. Questions of duration are coming up, and I think in terms of quick, small, snappy performances (like writing one sentence or one word) as opposed to the multiplicity of those, which make them, dissolve into one performance instructions book. The intense opposition of the two helps explain one another.

For example, having a performance of "I remained under the table thinking and writing between 15:30 and 17:57 establishes it as performance but it blurs the boundaries of art and life, and establishes the absurdity in the complexity of all.
