/what’s inside?

1. /Three Module House - Residence

the project was to design a residence for a family of 6 members - a father, mother, two children and the grandparents. The design had to incorporate elements of climate responsiveness and surrounding context.

2. /Jāgarti - Clinic

the project was to design a primary health clinic, but with more focus on the form of the building. For this the studio involved us exploring different types of shapes, forms a building can take and then incorporate a function into it.

3. /Zephyr - High rise

the project was to design a high rise building in mattanchery and to successfully integrate services and efficiently design the core of the building.

4. /Miscellaneous art works, workshops and other experiences that strengthened my core beliefs as an architecture student.

The Three Module House

The Three Module House is conceived as three seperate modules, divided based on function. The house’s design can accommodate and benefit from the site’s distinctive shape thanks to the usage of separate modules. The house’s one-story height allows it to fit in with the modest surroundings. The plan’s progressive design dissects the house’s bulk and scale in relation to the nearby neighbourhood. In contrast, the majority of weekend houses in the region combine space into a single, spacious “villa-like” structure.

/architecture is about space and material- Peter Zumthor

form development

A block is created initially with the required area.

A mass is cutout from the center to allow a central courtyard space.

This idea later developed at a design decision to split the mass into 3 seperate modules, and use the space they enclose as an outdoor -indoor space.

The blocks are zoned on the basis of function (guest, living, sleeping zones)

The guest block in the front is oriented with respect to the shape of the site (25° angle), so that the first block faces the viewer entering the site.

Neighboring houses and the residence should be in visible range so as to promote community bonding. This proximity creates a “street room” without physical boundaries.

ZAHA HADID

The studio was about exploring the concept of “function follows form”.

Zaha Hadid’s “Vitra Fire station” was taken as an inspiration in form development.

The peculiar shape of the site and the feeling of “alertness”, in regard with medical care were the ideas that drove the conception of this design. The design is conceived as an attempt to freeze the alert building in movement.

/concept - breathing mass

The concept of the deisgn is from massing evolution, from the shape of the site its topography

The massing evolution process is typically driven by a range of considerations, including the project’s programmatic requirements, site conditions, zoning regula- tions, sustainability goals, and the preferences of the client and community. the goal of massing evolution is to arrive at a design that effectively balances these different factors, creating a building that is not only functional and efficient, but also aesthetically appealing and contextually responsive.

These kind of louver in the facde made the circulation of the wind smoothly throught the spaces. Breathing architecture is a principle that employs structural and aesthetic strategies to maximise the flow of natural air and improve mechanical ventilation for better indoor air quality.

Massing have been done quite differently by providing free floors, such that it helps in providing cross ventilation through out building. Height of each free floor decreases with the increasing height of building i.e.,Height of free floor is more at the bottom part as velocity of wind is less comparitively to the top. Free Floors act as Multi- funtioning spaces
