It has been activities all the way for the nine sections involved with Flitwick scout Group. the activities they provide on a weekly basis have helped the Group grow again this year. the census figures just submitted by the Group shows there are now over 200 young people in Flitwick scout Group. the Beaver scouts (boys and girls aged 6 to 8) have been working towards their Experiment, Faith, Global and space badges. this included a visit to the Parish Church, making water filters, decorating biscuits, using primary colours and trying to spot the International space station. the Cub scouts (boys and girls 8 to 10 ½) have tried their hand at golf when they all visited the driving range at Beadlow Manor. they have been working towards their health badge by doing some circuit training and comparing heart and pulse rates. they’ve also found out how the body work with one of the highlights being able to examine sheeps’ lungs and inflate them with a balloon pump! the scouts (boys and girls aged 10 ½ to 14) have been getting out and about. the Monday troop have been on a night hike and also had a wide game and they’ve been using hammers and screwdrivers as part of their skills Badge. the Friday troop started this year with a new leadership team. the activities the young people have engaged with have included Fire safety, local knowledge, emergency aid and a very popular Chip survey. three chip shops were visited and the judging was based around, quality, value for money, and other products on sale. the winner will be announced shortly. Planning for the three camps the Group have planned for this year are well underway. In May, Cub camp will be at the Quarries in Milton Keynes where the activities will include archery, rifle shooting and the climbing tower. In June, Family camp will be at Bromham where the activities will include crate stacking, caving, obstacle course and archery. Cub and scout camp is being held at Gilwell Park,

Chingford at the end of July where some of the activities will include kayaking, high ropes, grass sledging and team building. Leo Phillips aged 9 said: “I like going to Cubs because I get to do something different every week with my friends. It was very interesting being able to see and feel the lungs – but it was also quite gross!” adult volunteer, Nigel taylor said, “scouting provides so many opportunities for young people. We can provide children with their first experience in a kayak or climbing a wall, or learning about emergency aid and what to do in different situations.
