a GoVernMenT report is suggesting that towns up and down the country follow the example of Bedford by having a Business Improvement district (BId) for the town centre. BedfordBID was formed in 2005 as one of only 12 towns to pilot the business-led project, since then 300 have followed and a report out now says they are an example for all towns. The report lists a of catalogue of ideas, many of which replicate what is already happening in Bedford http://www.placemanagement.org/special-interestgroups/welcome-to-the-bid-found ation/bid-news/more-bids-andnew-forms-of-bids-to-help-towncentres/ Said BedfordBID, which is led by a Board of business volunteers and promotes the town under the Love Bedford brand: “Love Bedford is the customerfacing brand which represents 500 town centre businesses large and small, retail, services and experiences. If you want to see just what great work in already being done, what investment is being made and which innovations are being introduced by real rent and rate paying businesses in the town centre go to www.lovebedford.co.uk and come on down to town

to support them when you can. “The business-funded Bedford Business Improvement District (BID) organisation which is behind Love Bedford, works closely with the council, and other agencies, across a variety of local and nationally-led initiatives and we naturally welcome all and any ideas which encourage entrepreneurship or which ease the challenges facing our town centres. “At Government level BIDs, of which there are now 300 and of which Bedford was one of the founding 12 in 2005, are now recognised as a way to bring together the best business expertise in any town centre location. “Show you Love Bedford by supporting the town centre brand www.lovebedford.co.uk “
Art win for Ellie
FeW 17-year-olds can boast that their work has been included in an exhibit attached to the Victoria and albert Museum, the world’s leading museum of art and design, but ellie Scorer of Clapham can do just that. The former Sharnbrook School student is now taking Graphics, Photography, Media and english literature a levels at The Bedford Sixth Form - and via her art class has won first prize in a competition which will see her design work all over london. Via teacher nikki Mansell, ellie and classmates entered the challenge run by TraId, a clothes recycling charity, to design a “wrap” for their bins across the capital. “I couldn’t believe when my name was read out,” said ellie, “I can’t wait to see the finished item which is now going into production.” ellie beat entries from more than 13 schools across london. There are plans for her work to be unveiled at the V & a in the coming months.

Lunch is being served THE former Délices bakery within the Art Centre is now in new hands - serving hot lunches alongside delicious fresh baked bread and pastries as The Gallery.
Avocado brunch with poached/scrambled egg and bacon, Feta lunch and a bacon sarnie with meats from the famous Linger’s Butchers nearby make for a mouthwatering meal .Ask about our own recipe sausage roll and prepare to be delighted. On top of this are locallysourced cakes to add to the daily produced bread and more from the Companions Bakers who are working in the bakery at the back - the difference is now you can see them kneading the dough via a giant interior window. Eat-in or take-away the cheese scones go faster than the team can turn them out. The new owner Simon Gillett who comes from in quality national restaurants in London has returned to Bedford to bring some of his bright ideas to his home town. The Art Centre side has been redesigned to make moving from one to the other a more natural progression so browse some paintings whilst waiting for a takeaway sandwich, pick up a creative card, enjoy a Portuguese custard tart, or refresh yourself with a super pot of peppermint tea. A lovely spot - just what Bedford ‘kneaded’. ADV_Maserati_Medhurst.indd 1
