DULWICH SCHOOL & NURSERY PREPA TORY ROSEMEAD From the Head

Welcome to Rosemead Preparatory School & Nursery, Dulwich, an independent co-educational day prep school for children aged 2 ½ to 11.

Our motto Inspiring Brilliant Futures is at the forefront of all we do. Our focus is on providing a unique education to each and every child, nurturing their individual strengths, interests and needs.

Our active parent community is a key aspect of our school, promoting close

collaboration between teachers, parents, and children to create a supportive, inclusive learning environment.

At Rosemead, we believe that by inspiring each individual child to unlock their brilliance we will not only shape their future but inspire our children to shape the future of others.

Values - Roots of Rosemead

The Roots of Rosemead are the foundation upon which the academic and pastoral practices are built, and they are split into two main categories: Academic Roots and Pastoral Values.

The Academic Roots of Rosemead focus on developing a love for learning and nurturing the intellectual curiosity of the children. These roots are Curious, Communicators, Creators, Thinkers, and Risk Takers. These values encourage children to explore new ideas, collaborate with their peers, and embrace challenges. These Academic Roots of Rosemead aim to equip children with the necessary

skills to succeed in their academic endeavours and inspire their brilliant futures.

The Pastoral Values of Rosemead are the core principles that guide the social and emotional development of our children. These values are Respectful, Honest, Responsible, Confident, and Kind. They are embedded in every aspect of school life and encourage children to be empathetic, honest, accountable, confident, and self-aware individuals. The Pastoral Values of Rosemead aim to create a supportive environment that fosters positive relationships and encourages personal growth.

The Roots of Rosemead are the driving force behind the school’s philosophy and approach to education. They are designed to create a well-rounded learning experience that goes beyond academic excellence and fosters the development of the whole child. Rosemead’s commitment to its values sets it apart as a unique and highly regarded school that values the growth and development of its children above all else.

At Rosemead we pride ourselves on our unique value system known as the Roots of Rosemead.

Admissions

Rosemead has three key entry points for admissions: 2 ½ years old, 4+, and 7+. However, the school also offers ad-hoc places outside of these conventional admissions windows when space is available in certain year groups. The admission process involves assessments in Maths and English, as well as taster sessions in a class relevant to the child’s age. While academic performance is important, the school mainly looks for children who will fit in with its ethos and values, considering the whole child rather than just academic potential.

The 7+ assessment process is larger due to the greater number of spaces available at this entry point. The school holds a 7+ day in November each year where children sit assessments in Maths, Reading and Writing. They also have Art, Music, and PE lessons delivered by specialist teachers and stay for a wonderful lunch during their 7+ visit.

Rosemead’s admission process reflects its commitment to providing a holistic education that considers each child’s academic potential and personal qualities. The school seeks to create an environment where children can thrive and reach their full potential. By assessing children’s academic abilities alongside their fit with the school’s values and ethos, Rosemead aims to provide a supportive and nurturing environment for all its children.

Early Years (Nursery & Reception)

With a focus on fun, creativity and purposeful play , our Nursery provides children with the opportunity to explore, investigate and develop in all areas of learning. The nurturing staff, engaging activities and warm atmosphere all work together to create a positive and supportive environment, where every child’s learning is personalised to ensure they reach their full potential. From structured learning with our specialist teachers (Music, Spanish and PE), imaginative play, outdoor adventures, and educational activities, our nursery inspires children to discover the world in their own unique way. We value and nurture parental engagement as a key tool to give each child the best possible start in their educational journey.

Building on from the brilliance of Nursery, the children in Reception continue to learn in a thematic, exciting and inspirational way. Transition from Nursery is carefully managed to ensure children are happy, and their learning and development continues seamlessly. Purposeful play is still central to all learning with talented staff devising a curriculum which is meaningful and progressive. Our outside learning zone is an extension to the classroom with ever-changing creative and engaging learning opportunities which motivate and inspire. A little bit more structure at set points throughout the day enables the children to develop listening, focus and concentration, and begins preparing the children for the next step in their learning journey.

Our Early Years is an integral part of the school which offers a unique and inspiring environment for children to learn and grow.

Pre-Prep (Years 1 & 2)

Whether through art, music, sports, or academics, the pre-preparatory school provides a wide range of opportunities for students to shine and grow. With a commitment to excellence and a warm, nurturing atmosphere, this school sets the foundation for a lifetime of learning and success.
