American Flags During a community drive through, we noticed many tattered flags or flags that are in overall bad condition. If you decide to replace your flag, you can drop off your old flag for the Flag Retirement Program at the POA Office. Hosted by The Island Funeral Home & Crematory. According to the US flag code, when an American flag appears worn or otherwise no longer appropriate for display, it should be decommissioned in a dignified way, preferably by burning. The Island Funeral & Crematory has partnered with the Boy Scouts of America and Ace Hardware of Hilton Head to properly dispose of decommissioned American flags. To donate your tattered, torn, or faded flag, please bring it to the POA Office. Thank you!

Special Board Meeting There will be a special Board meeting on Thursday February 10, 2022 at 7:00 PM at the POA Office.

Security Seminar Update We have reached our seating capacity for the Security Seminar on February 15, 2022, with a few more folks on a waiting list. If your plans have changed and you are no longer able to attend, PLEASE notify the POA office ASAP so that we may include those on the waiting list.

Remember, the seminar will also be posted on Facebook Live on the Rose Hill Announcements Facebook page and we will make digital copies of the handouts available to all.

Depending on the level of interest, we will notify you if we are going to offer the seminar again on February 22, 2022.

Basic Needs for Bluffton Self Help Caring Neighbors will be holding a BASIC NEEDS drive for Bluffton Self-Help from February 1 - 14. Drop boxes will be available for contributions at the POA office, Oak Terrace Restaurant, and Tennis of the Lowcountry. In keeping with the theme of Valentine’s Day, we’re hoping that many of you will be able to open up your hearts to the less fortunate by donating pantry and hygiene items. The list below of the most needed items was provided by Julia Violi, the Program Manager at BSH: Shampoo, Whole Grain Cereal, Canned Chicken, Spam, Pancake Mix, Maple Syrup, Taco Kits, Rotel Tomatoes, Spaghetti Sauce, Cooking Sauce, Cooking Oils, Flour, Sugar, Ketchup, Mustard, Mayo, and shelf-stable foods such as Salad Dressings, Cheese, and Almond Milk.

Bluffton Self-Help, as well as Caring Neighbors, is dedicated to the premise of “Neighbors Helping Neighbors”. Both of these non-profit organizations thank you in advance for any contribution you can make!

Rose Hill Plantation 2022 Annual Election Candidate Bios (Listed in alphabetical order by last name) Vic D’Auria My name is Vic D’Auria and have recently moved to Rose Hill Plantation from Fort Mill, SC which I lived there since 2003. I have been traveling between the two places for years and fell in love with the southern charm in Bluffton. Growing up on Long Island, NY I always knew I would come back to the coast. I moved to Fort Mill, SC to work for Wells Fargo Home Mortgage as a Legal Analyst. I left Wells Fargo in 2017 to open a Bar and Grill of my own, a lifelong dream since my dad had one in NY for 23 years. During my time in Fort Mill I served on the Whitley Mill HOA as the Treasurer for four years, prior to, during and after those years I also helped with community functions and activities. I have been married to my wife Jen for over 25 years and have three sons, my youngest just became a Beaufort County Deputy Sheriff, the other two still live in Fort Mill with their own careers. I hope to bring transparency to the community as well as improving it for the benefit of all. The fact is we can’t make everyone happy, but I hope through communication we can have everyone’s understanding.

J. Michael Hagen Kathy and I moved into our home on Greenwood Dr in April 1999. I retired in 2006 after 32 years as a Special Agent with the FBI. My last seven years I served as the local Resident Agent covering 3 counties, At the time I entered the FBI I was a CPA. During my career, in addition to investigative duties, I served as a Supervisor, a Special Operations Program Manager and adjudicated personnel matters. Kathy retired in 2012 after 13 years as a teacher at Bluffton Elementary. I served on the Rose Hill Security Committee for a brief period in the early 2000s and on the Covenant Rewrite Committee. Currently I serve on the Long Range Planning Committee. Between 2006 and 2014 I served 6 years on the Board, all as President. During that time, we resolved the bankruptcy of the golf course and completed the purchase of that property thereby protecting it from future development. We negotiated a favorable settlement for the development of Phase II of Club Gate. In connection with the widening of Highway 278, after litigation, we netted over 3 times the settlement that the state of South Carolina had offered Rose Hill. In that matter I personally gathered the evidence and provided the critical trial testimony. At the beginning of my service, Rose Hill had no measurable reserves as a result of numerous lawsuits, and we were in danger of losing our Directors & Officers insurance. We successfully put a stop to the lawsuits and started the path to a firm financial footing. As a result, the cost of insurance has dropped dramatically. I became intimately familiar with our drainage system, which requires continual maintenance to function properly and avoid flooding. I did this by actually removing old tree limbs from the lagoons, cutting away overhang, clearing ditches and replacing pipes. This knowledge assisted in winning the suit with SCDOT. I am concerned that our maintenance is not functioning efficiently, and major improvements can be made in this area. I know some problems are ignored until they become major.

During my years we did not award any contracts the terms of which were not published ,with the exception of information proprietary to the vendor. I believe members are entitled to such information.

If elected, I will work to amend the Covenants to increase Board accountability in several ways and place limits on the ability of the Board to borrow funds without membership approval, except for the existing emergency lines of credit.

Nancy McGregor Local Neighborhood POA Board experience:Founding board member the Palmetto Bluff Neighborhood Association and Nominating Committee in 2014. Editor of Palmetto Bluff newsletter,The Bluff Report. Board member of the Palmetto Bluff Art Commission in 2015.

Former occupation: Creative Director and Market Research Production Manager with Allison Research Technologies in Atlanta. Senior Benefit Analyst with CIGNA Connecticut General Life and Insurance, overseeing United Technologies Health Contracts. Purchasing Agent for Massachusetts Indemnity Life Insurance. Current Occupation: Commercial and Portrait Photographer. One of two women in the world to receive an Award of Excellence from Communication Arts Magazine in both 2013 & 2015, plus six Portrait Master awards in 2020 & 2021. Best of Houzz in 2018 & 2020. Author with a book on Amazon. Winged Soul-Egrets in Flight. Local Community Involvement: In 2015, was a member The Bluffton Cultural District Steering Committee that won Bluffton its recognition as the 6th city in the state of South Carolina as a Cultural District. Written various articles for HHMonthly and Coastal Isles magazines. Designed and built a website for The Rose Hill Plantation House plus my own website and that of my husband. Photospoon and Granata Design. Designed and built a video on the Rose Hill Plantation House. Created an online survey concerning the fate of the Plantation House. Positive public relations article with CH2 Magazine on the Rose Hill Plantation House. Participated in Small Sessions as feedback to the POA board. Member of the Rose Hill Concerned Residents Group. On the personal side, I’m 62 years old. The mother of a disabled child (now an adult) and a 36 year expert in Human Communication and Nonverbal Language. My son has Cerebral Palsy, Non-Verbal Learning Disorder or NVLD, is Legally Blind, and is on the Autism Spectrum. I have worked with teachers, school boards, governmental agencies, two Governors, official programs, and countless therapists, psychologists, and doctors to make sure my son obtains the best possible life and to create positive change for other disabled people. I’m a cancer survivor of a rare adrenal gland tumor known as an extra-adrenal paraganglioma. Former equestrian, now retired from the saddle, who trained Arabians, rode hunt seat (and western) and gave lesson/trail rides to beginners. My husband and I moved to Rose Hill Plantation in December 2020. My husband moved to Hilton Head from Chicago in 1988 and I moved here from Atlanta when we met in 2008. I love to read and am a dyed in the wool bookworm. I collect vintage table linens, small antiques, and vintage books. One of my favorite things to do is play hide and seek with my Golden Retriever, Uncle Bob. My goal and mission statement for running for the POA Board:To serve my chosen community to the best of my ability. This means protecting the beauty, nature, and sense of harmony of the community, along with its contribution to our local history. To elevate the operations, infrastructure, and property values for all residents while reducing costs wherever possible.

Bob Zipse Bob Zipse has been a resident of Rose Hill since 2020. He is a husband, a father of six and a neighbor.

Over 25 years ago he and his family first came Hilton Head on vacation to visit his sister who had recently moved into Rose Hill. Since that time, he and his family returned frequently to visit the “fun aunt” who lived at their favorite vacation destination. Bob’s experience and educational background include a Bachelor of Science from the University of Maine and a Masters of Business Administration from Mount St. Mary’s University. His major fields of study were finance, marketing, management, and organizational psychology. Upon graduating from U of Maine, Bob spent 40 years working for John Deere. His professional experience includes field sales, product support, and leadership roles, both nationally and internationally, and creating Deere’s Dealer Development Department. Since moving to Rose Hill, Bob joined the Long-Range Planning committee. He has regularly attended board and audit committee meetings. Bob believes that a neighborhood board has one purpose and two functions. The purpose is to act in the best interest of neighbors. The functions are to establish and institute effective policy and procedures as well as to make rational, informed decisions when committing resources for the benefit of our neighborhood. Bob’s goal is to lend value while galvanizing neighborhood cohesiveness.
