District 4 Deputy Regent

Greetings from your Deputy Regent District of Columbia, District 4!

I would like to start by thanking all of you personally for your Fellowship Nominations. The District of Columbia will again have a strong showing at the 2024 Convocation in Nashville, TN in September. The resumes put forth are highly qualified candidates, however, there remain deserving colleagues that have yet to be nominated. You likely remember the experience in being recognized by your peers. For me personally, it was honor. Let’s keep our record strong in the District. Consider nominating a fellow colleague.

Earlier in May, I had the honor of presenting the Humanitarian and Leadership awards the ICD bestows on two deserving graduates at Howard University’s Dental School convocation. The ceremony was directed by Fellow Dr. Reginald Salter and those that could not attend were able to view via live stream. The award for Leadership was presented to Mr. Jerrell Atwater and the Humanitarian award to Mr. Brandon Williams. Both gave heartfelt speeches and were very appreciative for the recognition. We wish them well along with all the other graduates as they embark on their professional careers.

Have a safe and relaxing summer!

Dr. Kim Menhinick, Deputy Regent (DC-District 4)

It must be rewarding to see that the current Dean of Howard Dental is a female.

Oh yes! I am so proud of her. Dean Jackson has as much challenges as I had. You think we have come a long way but challenges are the same- to recruit students, to find resources, find outreach programs and to build a team to continue her vision She is a role model and I support her wholeheartedly Currently, the Deans of both HBCU dental schools-Howard and Meharry are females and we have a few

“My how time flies!! My 50th in ACD has already passed. I remember my ICD induction as a great day! I was the only woman in the induction class. Wonderful day but it also made me more aware of the scarcity of women in our profession I am so glad to see we are advancing in the right direction I thank ICD for honoring me and glad I had the chance to talk with you I encourage you to keep up the good work you’re doing”.
