had her in the past often agree that she has taught them much more than just social studies. “I had Ms. Connor for civics and economics in my freshman year, and I learned a lot about integrity from her,” junior Amari Brown said. “She also taught me that it is all right to make mistakes as long as you learn from them.” Connor’s students believe that she is most deserving of this award as many of them feel connected to Connor at a personal level; Connor’s relaxed class environment bolsters the learning of her students while also allowing students to interact and feel comfortable with each other and with her. “I’ve had her for three years now, and I think Ms. Connor is a great person,” senior Tony Hammond said. “She incorporates her own feelings into the class, so it’s not just a teacher-student relationship; it’s a personal friendship as well.” In addition to teaching social studies classes at the school, Connor has also been the Northwest swim team coach for the past five years. The majority of her swimmers, like Connor’s students, take away much more from her coaching than just learning how to swim. “[Connor], while she trained us, pushed me to become the best person, swimmer and student I could possibly be,” sophomore Harrison Hill said. “She made me realize that you have to take control of your life and be a leader if you want everything to go right for you.”
