Digital Print of Europe Music April 2013 The topic this month has been “Music” our talented class 8d has been working with the topic from a slightly different angle.

We would like to start to tell you abit about our music. We have choosen not to write about folkes music, because we think it´s more or less the same in all the European countries.

We will start to tell you abit about Progg which is, as far as we know, something that only occurred in Sweden.

Talking about swedish music we feelt that we couldn´t miss out on ABBA, not becouse it´s a big deal for youth today, but because it´s huge abroad even today. And that the two B´s; Björn and Benny are still working with music today even if what they do today is somewhat differt to when ABBA was number one on the charts. Thay have written musical such as Chess, but also Duvemåla, a musical based on a classic Swedish novel and where Folkes music was integrated. Björn and Benny also wrote the opening act for Eurovision song contest this year.

We also wrote abit about Dansband. Dansmusic is a big interest for many swedish people.

Dance is part of the Sport curriculum. And all 9:th graders in Kvarnbyskolan learn how to dance.

We could have written about Swedish house mafia but we choose not to. House music is big and sound almost the same all over the world, but to be abit more up to date we wrote about the Swedish hit producers Denniz Pop and Max Martin. We have also tried to find out more about music in the partner countries.

Sofia, Liliana, Mattias and Albert have made a photostory presentation about their experience in Poland. You can see this work in May´s precentation.

Progg Progg is an music movement. The Swedish progg developed in the end of the 60's. And took some of its ideas from the American hippieculture and the polital youth movment in 1968.

Prog was a swedish music fenomena. It started with two music festivals in Stockholm (Gärdet). Progg was against the commercial music industry and was a alternativ for music that wasn´t mainstrem enough for the record companies. (Not to be misstaken for progressive rock music) The swedish progg included art and poetry, free theater groups and of course music in all its forms. The Swedish progg had five seats Malmö, Gothenburg, Stockholm, Luleå and Uppsala.

Gothenburg was most hardcore. Here was the recordable Nacksving, the leftorientated magazine “Musikens Makt.” Proggers also had it´s own sence of fashion.

Gunder hägg/Blå tåget Blå tåget was a swedish progggroup. They were called Tjalles Horizon from the beginning but changed name to Gorillaorkestern. 1969 they decided to change name again, this time to Gunder Hägg. In January 1972 they had to change name one more time, because of the namebattle with the athlete Gunder Hägg, this time to Blå tåget.

They are nine members in the group and they are called: Mats G Bengtsson, Torkel Rasmusson, Tore Berger, Urban Yman, Leif Nylén, Kjell Westling, Carl Johan De Geer, Göran von Matér and Roland Keijser. The group was formed of Leif Nylén, Torkel Rasmusson, Tore Berger and Mats G Bengtsson when they used to meet at Tore Bergers studio. Roland Keijser and Göran von Matérn joined after a while.

Kebnekajse Kebnekajse before Kebnekaise. Kebnekajse is a Swedish progg/rock band who was formed in the 1970's. The members in the group's first set was Kenny Håkansson at guitar, Pelle Ekman at drums, Bella Linnarsson at bass and Rolf Scherrer at guitar. Many of this members has been members in the group Mecki Mark Men before.

ABBA Members: Agnetha Åse Fältskog was a great singer and she played the piano. She was born the 5th of April 1950 in Jönköping (Sweden). She was active singer in 1967 to 1988, then 1988 she had a break and started again 2004.

Björn Kristian Ulvaeus was born 25th of April 1945, in Gothenburg. He was played the guitar and he sang. Agnetha and Björn were married 1971 and ended the relationship 1979.

And then they got divorced.

Benny Andersson was a Swedish songwriter and a pianist. He was born on 16 December 1946.

Anni-Frid Lyngstad was a Swedish pop singer. She was born on 15 November 1946 in Norway. In 1981 Anni-Frid and Benny got divorced and in 1992 she was marries to the prince Ruzzo Reuss.

Björn and Benny are still making music.

Music videos Their first music video was Waterloo. The video was filmed in England 1974. The film maker was Lasse Hallström and they thought he was so good so he did all their music videos beyond the two last Abba songs. They have total eight studio albums, one live album and eleven compilations album. Abba have also music on other language. The song Waterloo is available in Swedish, English, Spanish, German and French.

Movie ABBA- the movie came out 1977, there are some movies about ABBA, but this is the only one where they participate in person. They were also in a big tour 1977, in Australia. And that gave a documentary, the movie gave an insight about the big tour. “Mamma Mia!” the musical included 22 of Abbas songs.There are seven movies about ABBA. But there are some movies that have ABBAmusic .

They found out that theirs voice were match together when they were on a trip together. The married couples where Agnetha och Björn, Benny och Annifrid. They sang disco, europop, pop, rock and schlager. In the begin they were called Björn&Benny, Agnetha&Annifrid. But when they went on a the tour they needed to have a shorter name. And they were called ABBA. They became really famous when they where in the Eurovison song contest 1974. They performed “Waterloo” wrote by Benny, Björn och Stig Anderson. After the Eurovison they became really famous around European countries and in USA. 1976 was ABBA one of the most famous pop group in the world. They sold over 180 million discs 1983 and today they had sold about 400 million disc. They sold about two to four million discs every year. Their last tour where in Japan.Their last record got out 1981.

And after they released their record, the group ended and the married pairs got divorced.

Dansband

Dance Band is a Swedish folk music and was very popular around 50-60 century until today and to dancebands you often dance in pairs and most common is the dance jive and foxtrot and is in common 4 stroke tempo. Many people say that dance music is not a genre, but play different genres of popular music. The most common instruments are the bass guitar, keyboards, electric guitar, and drums. Alot of danceband often have a big bus and they travelled all over the country every week for playing music on festivals and conserts.

A very popular Swedish band is Lars Kristerz. They played all over the country.

They are six people in the dance band Lars Kristerz. The names are Anders, Micke, Peter, Trond, Stefan och Tobbe.

After they won a competion called �dansbandskampen� 2008 they become very popular in Swedish dance clubs. // Marcus , Filip The Swedish hitfactory Max Martin and Denniz Pop created swedish hit factory together writing songs to international stars. There isn't anymore information than this about the swedish hit factory.

Only about the people who worked within this group: Karl Martin Sandberg

He made his stage name in the 1990's which is Max Martin. He is a famous songwriter who has made over a 100 songs that are known worldwide. It all started when he dropped out of school just to furfill his dream of being a songwriter. He got hired in 1993 by Cherion, a record company. He had then he lives his dream and worked there with people such as Denniz Pop. When Cherion closed at 2000, he made his own record company called Maratone.

Cherions closeing was caused by Denniz Pop's death which we will describe later on.

He has wrote songs that are very famous to this day such as; Justin Bieber feat Nicki Minaj - Beauty and a beat.

Taylor Swift - We are never ever getting back together Katy Perry -Wide awake These are just a few of the songs he has written.

Dag Krister Volle He started using his stage name Denniz Pop as his regulear name was too hard to pronounce.

Denniz Pop was a big songwriter aswell tho he went away in 1998. He was also a dj for a ''group'' called ''swemix'' which was a dj-ing group who started around 1990 and splitted in 1992 as Denniz died in cancer.He wrote songs as; Britney Spears-Baby one more time, Crazy Made by:Simon,Alexander,David Z

Latvian music - briefly In Latvia music is a big deal, almost every second inhabitant has been educated in playing an instrument or singing. Each year, a huge amount of concerts and musical events are held in different parts of the countr. Many of the musical events are adapted to the rythms and seasons of the nature and year, and they are all very different. Latvia has a big ”music season” that starts the fall and ends in July with Latvia's national opera, a big opera festival.

But even during the summer, a lot of concerts and events are held: international organ festivals are held in Liepaja and Riga's cathedral, and a lot of jazz events is taking place in the middle of July. The big traditional Antic music festival in Riga, in the beginning of July.

Under the festival, some of Latvia's and the worlds greatest artists perform with songs and music from the Renaissance and the Baroque periods.

When it comes to contemporary music Postivius, one of the biggest – if not the biggest – musicfestivals in all of the Baltic countries is worth mentioning. In the middle of July, many of the worlds biggest rock and pop artists gather and perform for a huge audience.

But lets go back to the roots for a little while. The Latvian folk music can be dated back almost a thousand years. Their folk music is a very mixed and different music in different places, but they are often based on peoples life and in perticularly the three important stages of life – birth, marriage, and death or burial.

Since it's important to take at least one famous musical icon we choose Raimonds Pauls, an Latvian pianist, composer and politican. He has, up to the year 2004, composed music for a few musicals, three baletts, and over 50 movies and plays. He has made over 500 melodies over the years, and his music has been used by artists in many records released in Latvia, Russia, Japan and many other countries. He was born in 1936 in Riga, the capital of Latvia. In the beginning of the 1980's, he started working together with russian songwriters and singers,

and he because real big. He has also been involved in politics, and was a candidate for president in Latvia in 1999, but decied to drop out, even though he had the most votes. He is still in the musical career. Even if he may or may not be the most recognized artist by todays generation, he is still worth mentioning.

Music in Finland In Finland rock music is very popular. The Rock and roll wave started in 1950 and 1960. At that time, most bands translated hit songs to Finnish. Most Finnish rockbands sing their songs in Finnish. Finland have many rock music festivals, the biggest one is Provinssirock. It's held every June in a island in Seinäjoki. They have had popular rockbands at the festival such as Foo Fighters, Linkin Park, Paramore, The Sounds, Billy Talent and Serj Tankian.

The record company “Love Records� was one of the biggest international record company who focused on Finnish rock, even if a few jazz groups were contract with the company. In the beginning of 1970, a multiple new artists been made, Sing songwriters. Such as Juice Leskinen started to write songs in Finnish and combined irony, poetry and introspection with a rocky sound.

Lordi Lordi s a hard-rock band from Finland. They have got their inspiration from bands like Kiss, W.A.S.P, and Alice Cooper.

The groups gimmick is that they always wear monster-masks. Not just on stage, but also during interviews. Why is that? They want to show that the people behind the masks aren't the same as the monster-characters. But it is revealed who the members are, though.

The monster-images is also used as a commercial trick, to bring attention. It's mysterious and thrilling, not to know who is behind the masks, and that raises the interest in the band.

Members Mr. Lordi is the leader of the band. He is the lead-vocal, the bands songwriter and designer of their costumes. He is one of the few members that have been in the band since it started in 1996.

Amen is the current guitarist. He got his first guitar at the age five, and started to take lessons immediately. He is also a passionate fan of the band Kiss.

OX is the bands bassist. In 2005 he joined the band and replaced the former bassist, Kalma.

He has a father who is Egyptian and a mother who is Finnish. He and his parents lived in Egypt, but when OX was 13 years old his father died, so he moved back to Finland with his mother.

Awards In 2006 they participated and won the final in Eurovision Song Contest with the song “Hard Rock Hallelujah�. This was the first time that Finland won the song contest. The score was the highest ever, but Alexander Rybak broke the record only two years later. Lordi was the first in the contests history to win both the semi-final and the final.

Spanish Music.

In Spanish music there are a lot of different genres. But today we are gonna talk about Salsa and Flamenco some Spanish opera and of course some of the artists that performed with this type of music.

Salsa Salsa is a music genre from Latin Americana. Salsa started to evolve throughout traditional Afro-Caribbean music that came from Cuba. Salsa came to use in new York in a lot of ways under the 1960. Many of the big artist got an contracts with the record company Fania Records that was founded in 1964. some of the big artists were Ray Barretto, David Calzado and Juan Formell.

By Teddyyy Ray Barretto was born in Broklyn New York year 1929 the 29 April. Ray was an American and his parents was Puerto rican . Ray Barretto was first active to play Salsa and Latin jazz, but later under the 1950 Ray Barretto started to play Congas first with Charlie Parker and later he played with Tito Puente.

One of Rays most famous song was El Watuis. Two years after Ray released his song El Watuis, the song came on the billboard hot 100. Billbord is one off the biggest music lists in the world. El Watuis ended on a 17# on the list.

Another of Ray Barrettos biggest songs were Acid who was on the album with the same name (Acid.)

Flamenco Flamenco is a Spanish artform who include Dance, Song and Music. Flamencos history is unknown. Musical influences shows that Flamenco came from many different countries example India, Morocco, Egypt, Greece and a lot of different countries around Mediterranean sea.Its a lot of different types of flamenco as Fandango, Soleares, zapateado and Alegrías.

Artist who sings Flamenco often sings about very strong feelings, The Typical Flamenco instruments is Flamenco guitar, Classical guitar, Palillos, palmas and Cajón.The name flamenco came from the bird Flamingo. It´s called so because when you dance flamenco you look like a Flamingo.

One big flamenco artist is Diego Ramón Jimésez Salazar also called El cigala. El cigala was born the 27 December 1968 in the Spanish capital Madrid. Diego grown up in a Romani family. He started to sing at flamenco clubs. Then later Diego became more famous and he started tour with other famous Flamenco artist. In the late 1990 came Diegos first album Undebel. Later he won two Grammy awards for Latin Grammy Award for Best Contemporary Tropical Album. One with the jazz pianist Bebo Valdés.

Spanish Opera Spanish opera is two things. Art of opera in Spain and opera in the Spanish language. Opera has existed in Spain since 400 years ago.

Opera developed slowly in Spain, but in France and Italy the development was quicker. A reason why Spanish opera development was slower was the existence of a tradition of spoken drama in Spain which made some critics believe that opera was a less worthy artform.

However, there was a number of songs that became famous in the beginning of the 16th century by an famous composer named Juan del Encina.

Juan del Encina was born in Salamanca 1468. Juan del Encina wasn't the founder of Spanish opera. But he did make it famous throughout the world. He made it famous by writing songs and he was called a poet and the founder of Spanish opera. died in the late 1529 or early 1530 (we don't know the actual date). The reason we don't know that is because he died in an illness and his will wasn't presented until January 14. so the exact date is unknow. made by: Erik and Anton

Turkish music Turkish music has a long folk tradition with influences from both Europe, Persia, Assyria and Central Asia and the Byzantine music. Turkish music has also successfully embraced modern music and there are now a wide variety of music styles in Turkey.

Tarkan, Tarkan or Tevetoğlu, Turkish musician, born 17 October 1972 in Alzey, Germany.

Tarkan is one of the most famous musicians in Turkey. His records sell millions of copies. He is also known in other European countries and the U.S., especially for song Şımarık which Holly Valance made the cover of Sezen Aksu after sold the rights for it.

The most famous band from the UK is The Beatles

By beatles maniac11 The members in The Beatles are John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison and Ringo Starr. John Lennon and Paul McCartney is probably the most famous members in the band.

John Lennon was born 9 August 1940 in Liverpool. He was before married to Cynthia Powell but they got a divorce when John met Yoko Ono. John and Yoko got married 20 March 1969 in Gibraltar. He was the leadsinger in the band.

Like composer and singer, with The Beatles but also as a solo, he became the rocks prominent. Unfortunately John Lennon was murder 8 December 1880 in New York.

Paul McCartney is born 18 June 1942 in Liverpool. He is a rock-and popsinger, musican, composer, lyricist and the music and film producer.

George Harrison is born 25 February 1943 in Liverpool. He was a British musician, guitarist, singer, songwriter and producer.

Ringo Starr is born 7 July 1940 in Liverpool. He is a British musician, singer and actor.

Ringo Starr's real name is Richard B Starkey.

The Beatles is a English pop and rockband. It was John Lennon and Paul McCartney who wrote the songs for The Beatles. The Beatles became the most successful band in the history and a role model for the rock music.

The Beatles is the band who has sold the most albums in the whole world.

Rolling stones is the worlds most successful band ever.

Rolling stones music is based on American blues-music. They were from the start 6 people, Mick Jagger, Keith Richards, Brian Jones, Ian Stewart, Dick Taylor and Tony Chapman.

Today the members are Mick Jagger, Keith Richards, Ron Wood and Charlie Watts.

Their latest collection CD are ''Grr! Greatest Hits'' and was released in 2012.

They have done 24 movies about The Rolling Stones and the latest was released in 2011 and is named ''Some Girls Live in Texas '78''

My favorite band from UK are the boy band One Direction.

One Direction was formed 23th of July 8.20 PM in the famous TV-show X-Factor.

They are five members. Louis Tomlinsson, Zayn Malik, Liam Payne, Niall Horan and Harry Styles.

They all made it to boot-camp as individual artists but didn't get any longer individual. They thought they were out of the competition but were called back to the stages some minutes later. They were put in a band together.

Harry came up with the name One Direction. And all of the boys liked it.

They got all the way to the final but ended up in third place. But Simon Cowell, one of the judges, said that this was only the beginning for One Direction.

Some things to know about the boys....

Louis lived in Doncaster with his mother, her new husband and his 4 little half-sisters Charlotte, Felicitie, Daisy and Phoebe. He also has a half-sister on his dad's side ,Georgia. His the oldest member in the band and was born 24th December 1991. His togheter with Eleonor Calder, a model.

Louis mother Jay and the sisters father Mark divorced 2011.

He spent his first ever paycheck on adopting a chimpanzee called Larry.

He and Harry had a Bromance , Larry Stylinsson, but after he stated dating Eleanor he didn't think it was very funny when the fans writed things about it when he are in a relationship.

Zayn was born 12th January 1993. His birth name was Zain, that means beautiful in Arabic, but he changed it because he thought it looked cooler with a Y. He has 3 sisters.

A common quote he says is “Vas happenin'!�

His afraid of open water.

In feburary 2012, Zayn left the tour because a family member had died and instead of feeling sorry for him the fans got angry and started hating on him which only made him feel worse. It ended with him deleting his twitter account because of the hate, but some days later he

reconstructed it.

Liam was born 29th August 1993. He has two sisters, Nicola and Ruth. He was born three weeks early and therefore he had healthproblems. He spent his first four years in and out of hospital. Doctors noticed one of hes kidneys was scarred and dysfunctional. In 2012 Liam fond out his kidney was functioning again and shared it at twitter.

He has a weird fear of spoons.

Niall was born 13th September 1993 in Ireland. He's the only one of the boys who not have a sister but he has an older brother named Greg. Niall are the only blonde one in the band but his real hair color is actually brown. He is the shortest of the boy and often people think his youngest because he's the shortest. He has told that he's not so sure about himself, he don't think he's skinny enough, and many people has called him fat and ugly over the internet but that's not true. He is far from fat and ugly, he's adorable. He said the if someone hurt his girl he would stand up for her even through he's as scary as a baby penguin, like he said.

Harry was born 1 February 1994.he has an older sister named Gemma. He's the youngest of the boys. When Harry was seven years old his parents divorced. As a kid Harry loved to sing.

He listened to Elvis Presley much. Harry is very close to his mother and sister and likes to show his love for them. He has said he his worst habit is getting naked all the time. He has 27 tatoo's. Before he got in One Direction he was in a band called White Eskimos with some friends. They played at different events.

Today One Direction have released 2 Albums and they have done a cover on ''One way or another'' by BLONDIE for charity.

There are so many different artists and band from the UK but I think this three are the most famous.

German music Germany has as well as the other European countries a diverce music scene with traditional music, classical music and more contemporary stylesuch as jazz, techno, pop. Myself I prefer hard rock so I choose to write about one of my favorit bands is Rammstein!

Rammstein is a industrial metal band. It started in Berlin in 1994. It got it´s name from the german town Ramstein-Miesenbach, where a airplane happened in 1988 but as they added an m to its name it means break through stone. Rammerstein has really spectacular shows with a lot of fire shooting and other effects.

The original bandmembers was Richars Kruspe, Till Lindemann, Christoph Schneider and Oliver Riedel but other bandmembers has been added. Rammenstein is on of germanys biggest music export even if they mostly sing in german, the best language for heavy rock is you ask the bandmembers!

Polish music Poland is famous for its classical music for example. Chopin. In Poland traditional music, Jazz . So you could say that the Polish music scene are very diverce. Poland even has it´s own style; Poezja ´spiewana., sing to poetry. Good Polish pop music according to me is : Ivan Delfin and his group who makes pop music with gypsy influences! The group Blue Café with its charismatic singer who competed fnd in the Eurovision Song Contest.
