FUTURE DISTANT MEMORY CALLS

LAURA SKEHAN

A Future Distant Memory Calls is an exhibition of video, sound and sculpture, an installation suspending the viewer in a space with extracted moments of time, using a variety of media, motifs, and devices to analyse how agriculture, architecture, colonialism, extraction and the quest for knowledge have been elemental to climate breakdown. The work will illustrate the push/pull dynamism of human and non-human entities, of nature and technology and of culture and science, highlighting these challenges by exploring modes of display and motifs of containment, control and utility.

Laura Skehan is an artist from Dublin. Her practice focuses on the relationship between human and non-humans entities in the built environmental and natural landscape, prompting phenomenological and philosophical questions about the human condition. Working predominantly in moving image, sound and sculpture installation, she explores how human centric behaviours and technologies impose on the balance and harmony of this relationship.

EXHIBITION OPENS 6pm FRIDAY 25th AUGUST | CONTINUES UNTIL OCTOBER 29th

ARTIST TALK WITH LAURA SKEHAN & VALERIA CEREGINI

Valeria Ceregini is an Italian art historian and visual arts curator based in Ireland.

VISUAL
ART PROGRAMME

CATRIONA GALLAGHER EXHIBITION

Catriona Gallagher will show an ongoing body of artistic research into forestry plantations in the West of Ireland and the North East of England. The films, models and drawings show the plantations as a manifestation of the artificial natural, reflecting on the mediation of digital landscapes, greenwashing policies, and the extractivism that threatens ecological collapse, whether speculative or real.

Catriona is a visual artist and filmmaker currently based in Athens, Greece. Her work probes at the collision of manmade and natural worlds, navigating overlooked details in our physical surroundings and their mirroring psychological landscapes. She uses moving image, drawing, writing, and research processes in site specific responses to place, revealing a mapping of more-than-human relations in place over time. Catriona was awarded the 2022 Wings Residency at Roscommon Arts Centre.

EXHIBITION OPENS 6pm FRIDAY NOVEMBER 10th
