STEM Pathway at Rosary Academy

Page 1

The Rosary STEM Scholar Pathway is a 4-year STEM-based program unique to Rosary Academy. Women account for less than a third of those employed in scientific research and development*. As an all-girls school, Rosary Academy is leading the way in closing this gender gap by setting-up women with the essential skills and attributes needed to succeed and lead in STEM-related industries. *NCGS - National Coalition of Girls Schools

This STEM-based initiative is designed to support college and career readiness. Through partnerships between private and public organizations, students are empowered to explore their academic and career interests.

STEM Pathway Options Through a series of Pathways, students may choose a specific area of interest in which they will participate in advanced-level coursework and project-based learning experiences over four years.

The Engineering Pathway takes the students’ experiences to a new level. Explore the fundamental concepts related to design drafting, engineering processes, and manufacturing concepts. Students will enrich their engineering coursework through participation in activities such as Robotics and Vex robotics competitions, job shadows, Women in STEM luncheons, internships, and career fairs.

The Medical Pathway allows students to practice with hands-on training in a simulated setting and focus on learning concepts essential for pursuing a career in the health industry. The curriculum is rigorous and mandates students to enroll in double science and math courses compared to the typical high school science-based curriculum.

The Computer Science Pathway prepares students for a career as a computer programmer, network administrator, web designer, and computer network architect. Computer science is driving job growth and innovation throughout our economy and society. More than half of projected jobs in STEM fields are in computing occupations. Computer science develops students’ computational and critical thinking skills and shows them how to create, not simply use, new technologies. This fundamental knowledge is needed to prepare students for the 21st century, regardless of their ultimate field of study or occupation.
