SHE

Embraces HER FAITH

Rosary Academy's faith-based education allows young women to discover and live their devotion to God in many ways. As a diocesan school, Rosary offers a strong Catholic structure for young women of all faiths. Prayer is a part of everyday life on campus. The patroness of Rosary, Our Blessed Mother, is the model for our unconditional openness to the possibilities that God places before us. CAMPUS MINISTRY Students in Campus Ministry create a community of faith through liturgy, prayer, service, retreats, and leadership development. MASSES Mass and the sacrament of Reconciliation are offered throughout the year for the entire Rosary community. Once a month, a father-daughter or mother-daughter Mass is celebrated before school in the Chapel of Our Lady. RETREATS Each class experiences a day-long retreat, where they can focus on a topic of spiritual reflection. Juniors and seniors have the opportunity to experience Kairos, a 3.5 day retreat, where students go off-campus to reflect upon their relationship with self, family, friends, and God. It is a special time set aside for students to pray, meditate, study, listen, and grow. SERVICE Rosary's founding administrators were the Sisters of St. Joseph of Orange, whose charism reflected "service to the dear neighbor." Continuing this commitment, community service is completed as a part of academic classes, clubs, teams, and programs. KINGDOM FAIR A senior project to communicate a service need and participate in the process, Kingdom Fair requires students to report on their chosen organization through a tabletop display during a day-long service fair.

LEARNING &

Enrichment

CENTER (LEC)

The LEC offers space for quiet study, group collaboration, meetings, learning labs, tutoring, and more. Within the LEC, the Center for Learning (C4L) staff helps students reach their full academic potential.

ABOUT C4L The C4L staff consists of a strong, multidisciplinary team of directors, school/clinical psychologists, and learning specialists who support the students, parents, and faculty and staff members of Rosary Academy’s community. C4L recognizes that students learn differently due to differences in background knowledge, learning styles, ability to focus, and processing speed. Instructional support in all disciplines, as well as enrichment opportunities in Mathematics and English Language Arts are offered in C4L. Additionally, school psychologists offer strategies to enhance the student’s academic experience and ensure that intervening factors do not undermine students’ ongoing success.

Traditions revolve around faith, friendship, family, and fun! A few include: Rosary Day a school-wide celebration honoring Our Lady of the Rosary. An outdoor morning Mass is followed by the awarding of memorial scholarships and recognizing juniors as upperclasswomen with individual class rings. Father-Daughter Dinner-Dance One of the most anticipated events of the year, fathers and daughters alike cherish the memories made on this evening. Mother-Daughter Reflection & May Crowning A morning spiritual retreat with mothers and daughters, followed by Mass and the crowning of Our Lady of the Rosary. Red & Gold One of our most cherished traditions, Red & Gold is a student-run musical theatre production that focuses on project-based learing, specifically problem solving, teamwork, confidence, school spirit, and leadership skills. Every student plays a part on stage or behind the scenes. Categories include script, media, props, drama, choral, dance, tech, publicity, historian, and more. Performances occur during the second weekend in March.

Alumnae TESTIMONIALS

“Rosary taught me a lot about time management, organization, and how hard work paid off on my report cards. Rosary’s education was top notch and I knew a lot going into college, which helped me focus on classes that were developed for my major, vs. struggling with general education classes. I participated in so many opportunities outside of the classroom that really shaped my future and success – from learning about leadership, project management and team work as a Red and Gold captain, to event planning as a committee member for Rosary Day.

I thank my dad every day for sending me to an all-girls school, especially now as a wedding planner! We were never limited at Rosary, in fact it was the opposite; we were always told about the opportunities out there for women and we knew the future was all ours after graduating!” Katie Webb ‘03 | Owner, Sr. Planner Intertwined Events

“Rosary was, and continues to be, a key element to my success an happiness in life -- both professionally and personally. Whether participating in Red & Gold, numerous leadership opportunities, or Tri-School Theatre, Rosary’s all female environment gave me the strength and confidence to believe in myself, try anything, and ultimately succeed. Rosary laid the foundation to prosper in college, law school, and beyond. My confidence and loyalty in Rosary will extend further as I prepare my own daughter for high school. I look forward to the day when I can proudly call her a Royal.” Carrie J. Nocella ‘95 The Disneyland ® Resort Director, Government Relations

“Life has been a constant evolution of both incredible joy and challenge. Rosary allowed me the space to develop a sense of personal indentity strong enough to navigate that road. I have many times re-learned how to believe in myself via my Rosary mentors. This continues to push me past what I thought I was capable of.” Dr. Erica Manrriquez ‘07 Resident Physician at UC San Francisco

Parent INVOLVEMENT

Events and activities organized by Parent Council offer parents an opportunity to socialize and network with other Rosary families, and support the school’s fundraising events. Every parent is automatically a member of Parent Council and welcome to volunteer for a committee, attend monthly meetings, and participate in events.

Rosary Royal ? SHE ACTS HER AGE. A table of freshmen competing in a spontaneous dance off during lunch, music thumping as a crowd gathers around them. A trio of friends sitting on the lawn between classes, their laughter joyful and carefree. Students jumping up and down on swaying gym bleachers, euphoric in red and gold face paint as their Royals win. At Rosary, girls stay girls longer. Real life can wait. SHE EMBRACES HER FAITH. She goes to church with her family on Sundays, and she attends the Rosary Father-Daughter Masses. But something is different now. When they talk about religion at Rosary, her heart stirs. Her faith feels more alive, more personal. Her relationship with God is playing a meaningful role in her everyday life. It is reshaping her decisions away from campus. She had hoped to become a better student at Rosary. She never expected to become a better person. SHE FINDS HER VOICE. Her friends choose other high schools. Everything at Rosary is new to her. But the faculty go out of the way to engage her. She begins to see them as mentors. She bonds with the other girls like long-lost sisters. For the first time in memory, no one is judging her. She speaks up in class. She asks incisive questions. She debates big ideas. Rosary is cultivating a part of her she never knew existed. She is finding her voice. It is true and it is strong. She will never let it go. SHE THINKS DIFFERENTLY. Collaborative. Competitive. Confident. Creative. Funny. Humble. Independent. Innovative. Intelligent. Kind. Loyal. Open-minded. Optimistic. Passionate. Resilient. Spiritual. She is all these things and more. She embraces Rosary’s traditions, but she is not a traditional thinker. While others prepare for the future, she is creating it. When someone asks “Why?” she asks “Why not?” As she

walks on stage to address the audience at Red & Gold, she is reminded that Rosary isn’t a school for girls. It’s a school for women who think differently. SHE IS FEARLESS. Her expert teachers challenge her to take risks in the classroom, even if that means sometimes making mistakes. So she designs robots from sensors, motors, and screws. She critiques black and white photography at the Getty. She experiments with programming, recoding syntax into syntactic sugar. She is a big sister to wide-eyed new freshmen. She studies AP French. Ce n’ est pas facile. She does not always succeed, but she is always learning. She is a fearless young woman. SHE INSPIRES. The acceptance letters arrive one by one. USC. Marist. Harvard. She receives letters from the best colleges in the country. Some day, she will lead men and women in the U.S. Navy, her decisions changing lives on land and sea. She will write movies people watch on nervous first dates and rainy Sunday afternoons. She will take the hand of an anxious mother in the emergency room, and she will tell her that her child is going to be fine – and then make it so. She is a Rosary Woman and she is inspiring. SHE IS A MORE COMPLETE WOMAN. Some of what she has learned at Rosary cannot be measured by a test. Here, she has learned to be a more thoughtful daughter; a more affectionate sister; a more loyal friend; a more empathetic human being. She has learned to stand for those who can’t stand for themselves, and to try to recognize the face of God in the strangers she meets. She remembers St. Paul’s words: “So faith, hope, love remain, these three; but the greatest of these is love.” She strives to live this kind of love. She is a more complete woman.
