2023 Valentine’s Day

The Society of American Florists (SAF) has deemed Valentine’s Day as one of the most important dates in the flower industry and its highest-grossing holiday. At

Rosaprima, we understand how important Valentine’s Day is for industry, that’s why we worked hard since October to ensure that our fields were prepared to grow the most beautiful roses for this special day.

Juan Martin Gomez, our COO, gives us an insightful look into the preparation for Valentine’s Day. Reds are the most highly sought-after roses during this season, and achieving the right cutting stage requires a meticulous process that takes around 90 days. Our talented artisans at Rosaprima inspect each petal of every rose daily to ensure they will reach the perfect cutting stage before sending them to post-harvest. Everything is done to guarantee that we deliver nothing but the best luxury roses in the world. Our goal is to ensure our customers get a premium quality product every time.

In Ecuador, weather can be unpredictable, but we were prepared and vigilant for any possible changes. While November was filled with glorious sunshine last year, January began with rain. To prepare for these unpredictable variations, we follow strict soil and ambiance care to guarantee the quality of our flowers.

SAF 2022

The Society of American Florists’ 137th annual convention was held in Orlando during the first days of September. Every year SAF’s convention brings together some of the floral industry’s top experts and most successful business owners to share knowledge and challenges.

During these three days, florists participate in educational sessions on the industry’s emerging trends. Essential tips and data about the end customer, new strategies, events, and much more is shared during SAF.

Last year Rosaprima was awarded 8 out of 9 ribbons in the Outstanding Varieties Competition, one of which was the “Best In Class” award for our Elegance Salmone Ranunculus. SAF ribbons are an important recognition in the industry, and our recently winning varieties were Aloha (Red Ribbon), RP Moab (Red Ribbon), RP Lady Eva (Blue Ribbon), Candy X-pression (Blue Ribbon), Mandarin X-pression (Red Ribbon) and Westminster Abbey (Red Ribbon).

We had an opportunity to meet new florists entering the industry in the SAF VIP event “Let’s Taco About Roses.” We also initiated important new partnerships with the industry’s most innovative businesses.

Rosaprima is excited about SAF 2023, as Nicholas Chang, Rosaprima’s VP of Sales & Marketing, will participate as part of the board committee. SAF is a great organization that supports the floral industry, and we are honored to be part of it.

Expoflor 2022

Our RP Moab variety was definitely the show-stopper at ExpoFlor 2022. After a four-year hiatus, people were able to attend one of the biggest tradeshows of the industry in Ecuador. Rosaprima’s all-white stand full of beautiful roses was a big hit.

At Expoflor, we interacted with customers, stakeholders and floral designers and created new and meaningful connections. Rosaprima organized two important events during Expoflor.

The first was an exclusive VIP Breakfast at the farm in Cayambe, hosted by our Executive and Sales Team.

Juan Martín Gomez, Rosaprima’s COO, took everyone on a journey to learn how Rosaprima roses are grown.

During the second day of Expoflor, customers and visitors joined the Rosaprima Farm Tour. Everyone shared a wonderful time talking about innovations in production and processing, and the surprises projected for the upcoming year.These events provided a great opportunity to show our friends and guests how our process is designed to deliver the best quality roses at the highest possible standard.

IFTF 2022

The International Floriculture Trade Fair 2022 was the last tradeshow of the year. It took place at the Greater Amsterdam Expo. With more than 200 exhibitors and thousands of registered international visitors, IFTF was the largest and most active trade show of the year.

Once again, people from the floricultural world met face to face to present their most significant advances. IFTF brought together a lot of people after two years of significant growth in the floral industry. People from Asia, Australia, Europe and the United States gathered to see all the changes and new products.

Ranunculus and Anemones were Rosaprima’s most anticipated products and they drew much attention from customers worldwide. European growers commented on the intensity of the colors of Rosaprima flowers, and they were really interested in the year-long availability of the newest products. Seeing the new products in person is very important, and IFTF was the best opportunity for our customers to view our products’ quality, size and color.

IFTF clearly showed the floral industry is growing considerably and despite inflation, companies are investing and growing progressively.

Our Vibrant Pink Additions: Candy & Mandarin X-pression

Adding new and interesting varieties to the Rosaprima collection is always exciting. The wide range of colors in our collection includes an impressive 18 shades of pink. Last year we presented our newest pink additions: Candy X-pression and Mandarin X-pression.

Vibrant pink colors

Pink is a wonderfully versatile color. It brings out a more nuanced feel to any arrangement or adds energy with a pop of color in a more neutral one.

A lighter tone of pink can be soothing and bring peace. A brighter shade can be vibrant and chic. Pink is a color that symbolizes love, kindness,and femininity, a statement for all seasons.

There can never be too many pink roses, which is why we added our newest pinks. But be aware,,no two pink varieties are the same, and these two are no exception. They are unique and special, just like every one of our roses.

Candy X-pression

Candy X-pression has a deep, intense pink hue. This gorgeous garden rose flaunts its loose, wavy petals as if dancing the Flamenco on the Tablao’! It has a strong personality, a bright glow, and an extra large bud size with a long vase life of up to 12 days.

Artistry with Candy and Mandarin X-pression

Gilberto Freihoff of Dogwood and Fir used Candy X-pression and Mandarin X-pression to create a fall installation. His disruptive but elegant design style used out-of-the-box colors in pink and lavender combined with our non-traditional colors in darker shades and amber hues. The end product was absolutely eye-catching.

Alex Scholtz from Wildflora showcased Candy X-pression and Mandarin X-pression in a playful spring-inspired installment combining them with neutral tones and bold lavender colors. Amazed by the extra large flower heads and ruffle petals, she had a great time working with these garden roses.

Meg Hutchinson from The Florista loves the contrast of light and dark, evocative of the seasons as they come and go. Her creation was an arrangement full of “the best quality roses she has ever used,” including the long-lasting blooms of Candy X-pression and Mandarin X-pression.

Pink roses are full of possibilities. Sweet, romantic, soft and strong all at once, pink roses complement any arrangement. These pink roses are playful and bright, bringing elegance to any design and combining well with different colors and textures.

Rosaprima Anemones: Mistral Panda & Mistral Bordeaux

Since its inception over 27 years ago, Rosaprima has curated some of the most exquisite and luxurious roses. They have been used to decorate thousands of venues, homes, and spaces around the world to honor the most memorable events in people’s lives.

A new chapter in the Rosaprima story began last year when we added ranunculus flowers to our catalog after almost three decades of just growing roses.

In November 2022, we added another flower to our vast collection: anemones. Two varieties, Mistral Panda and Mistral Bordeaux. are now part of our catalog of cultivated product lines.

What makes Anemones Special?

The delicate beauty and wide range of colors of anemones make them unique. Anemones’ petals open wide during the day under direct sunlight, but at night, they close up and drop their heads to prevent dew from damaging their seeds.

Native to Europe, Asia, and the Mediterranean, anemones grow best in full sun but will tolerate partial shade. Anemones commonly bloom from November to March, but Rosaprima offers these versatile flowers yearround.

Ancient Greeks gave anemones their name, referring to them as the “windflower.” Many myths surround this mystical flower, and today it is considered a symbol of anticipation and expectation.

Rosaprima Anemones: Mistral Panda and Mistral Bordeaux

Our Rosaprima anemones are grown with the same dedication and passion as our iconic roses. Adding Mistral Panda and Mistral Bordeaux anemones to our already extensive line of flowers is an unmatched precedent for Rosaprima in the floral industry.

Mistral Panda’s silky-like petals twirl around a contrasting dark center giving this anemone a delicate but bold visual appeal. Each unique stem has an organic,

almost sculptural look that stands perfectly on its own.

Mistral Bordeaux has wavy strong stems, reaching an abundant bud of velvety petals that blend into a beautiful purple heart. Its rich burgundy color is an enticing addition to any arrangement.

Anemones Care & Handling

Our anemones have a vase life of 10 days. To keep your flowers at their finest, you must take good care of them. The stems of anemones are typically thirty to forty-five cm long in vases with an additional eight cm to the peduncle. Each anemone flower usually has five or six petals, and a bunch of anemones typically has ten stems.

To hydrate anemones, take them out of their packaging and place them in water for at least two hours before removing the wrapping. This process will allow the blooms to rehydrate and start opening up. Make sure nothing but the stem touches the water. You can place freshly cut anemones in water with flower food, and trimming the stems every three days will extend their vase life.

A Day at Work With My Parents

Parents are children’s first friends, their heroes, and the persons they first admire. As time passes and we grow up, we recognize all that our parents do for us and the effort they put into their work each day.

Rosaprima is a large family and our children are the source of inspiration for our work. We believe that the family is fundamental in providing children with an affectionate education and in helping them to develop the skills necessary to be a part of society. For this reason, during 2022 more than 400 children of our collaborators visited our installations and filled every corner of our farm with happiness and enthusiasm, as well as interest and curiosity about our production processes.

“A day at work with my parents” began with breakfast for parents and children in the main dinning hall. Afterwards, we did a tour of the production process, from start to finish, with fun activities at each stop. We began at irrigation and then proceeded to areas for fumigation, harvesting, variety selection, post harvest and finally packing.

Yessenia Granda, collaborator in the area of plant health, commented that this experience was very gratifying because she could share with her daughter a moment full of joy and togetherness. Her daughter had the opportunity to learn about the details of the work her mother does each day, and more importantly, to value the effort and perseverance that Yessenia puts into her work.

For Veronica Galindo, one of our collaborators in the area of internal control, the activity was enriching, and she witnessed the emotion her children felt as they learned about the work the company does. Her children were very happy to visit the installations, participate in each activity and, together with her, engage in the process of production on the farm.

During the day there were several activities with the children. The theatrical presentation was the most enriching because it presented valuable lessons for the little ones about reading habits, the dedication of their parents and the importance of caring for the environment which is our magnificent and only home.

As the last activity of this special day, each child shared a delicious refreshment with their parents.

“A day at work with my parents” helped us remember that children are the motor of life and the source of inspiration for our collaborators who work each day to be a better version of themselves.
