Also housing Workshops, Art Materials and Artists’ Studios. During Insight Abbey Walk Gallery will be showcasing the fantastic stainless steel sculptures of Richard Thornton: From the Wolds to the Sea Richard Thornton 17 Sept – 19 Oct “Sculpture is the embodiment of an idea or ideal in material, threedimensional form. The materiality is inseparable to the expression and

understanding of the idea and the physicality of the three dimensional form is both the subject and the object of the sculptor’s creative intentions. Richard Thornton’s sculptures manifest these critical ideals in their honesty to the means and materials of their making.” Professor Jim Hunter, Deputy Vice Chancellor, The Arts University, Bournemouth Directions: Turn off Osborne Street and you will find Abbey Walk Gallery directly opposite the entrance to the Municipal Car Park in Grimsby. [5] Terry Clarke Studio 7 Abbey Walk Gallery t: 01472 241007 e: art@abbeywalkgallery.com w: www.abbeywalkgallery.com Structure in all its forms has always fascinated me. My current work incorporates both architectural forms and the androgynous human body. Subject matter which, in the main, stems from a long term interest in life study. Work that is often themed, painted or drawn within a narrative context. Large mixed media drawings that relate to the manufacturing of both the physical and the structural – how it relates to now, particularly in times of conflict when people are often left disabled or injured through no fault of their own.

Abbey Walk Gallery m: 07565 967135 e: kho-art@yahoo.co.uk w: www.abbeywalkgallery.com Retrospective issues in education and society inspire me to produce artworks relating to an emotion, theme or event. My aim is to produce a series of drawings and painting studies comprising of layers and mark-making techniques. I hope to evoke an emotion in the viewer to aid thoughts and prompt discussions.

[7] Vivienne May Studio 2 Abbey Walk Gallery t: 01472 241007 e: art@abbeywalkgallery.com w: www.abbeywalkgallery.com Having recently just completed my MA in Fine Art I am exploring different possibilities in painting mediums and surfaces. I have recently been inspired by family and relationships; how people we know effect and influence our lives and the paths we take, making connections with previous generations. There are often stories, poems and personal fragments of things that accompany my work. Painting on unusual surfaces raises its own challenges particularly when painting realistically but it also gives us an opportunity to view the subject matter differently and give us time for our own reflections.

Studio 5 Abbey Walk Gallery t: 01472 241007 e: art@abbeywalkgallery.com w: www.abbeywalkgallery.com My current body of work is themed on the derelict premises of the old Sanatorium which was situated at Caistor. I am working in preparation for a solo show to be held at the Caistor Arts Centre in Feb 2014. The works are based on a visit there, working from recollection and recorded images of haunting derelict premises once housing what were believed to be the “mad or insane of the area. The paintings all worked in oil are ambiguous yet retain a tension which I believe directly relates to the subject matter.

[11] Annie Thwaytes m: 07745 246482 e: doningtonthwaytes @btinternet.com w: www.etsy.com/shop/ anniethwaytes I paint trees and woods and wildlife and landscapes, anything really! I love to layer paints and inks, sand it away to see what I’m left with then draw into it with pen. I like the fact that there are different processes to go through with each painting – layer, sand, draw, it keeps it exciting. My work is sometimes wistful, sometimes whimsical, I love making it and I hope you enjoy looking at it.

t: 01652 618409 e: pottymaz@aol.com I have a great passion for ceramics, glass and mosaics and am greatly influenced by the beauty of the natural world. [13] Criss Donington t: 01472 389440 e: doningtonthwaytes @btinternet.com I am a furniture designer and maker based in Lincolnshire. I work predominately in wood, both new and reclaimed. Each piece is individual and crafted by hand in my workshop. My aims are to produce pieces which are practical and elegantly proportioned whilst maintaining an honesty in the manner of their construction. The pieces are finished with a hand blended polish of Beeswax, Linseed and Tung oil in order to bring out the true colour of the materials used.

t: 01472 886017 m: 07512 425142 e: carolynshortuk@hotmail. com My work is varied but the pieces I most enjoy creating are from polymer clay and mixed media. The sculptures each have their own tale to tell and are inspired by everyday life and imagined encounters. I also create contemporary affordable gifts/home wares and greetings cards. All made to a high quality from fabric, found objects and paper ephemera.

of great interest. All the artwork is designed to work with these features that are shared by most churches.

t: 01472 358610 m: 07957 336982 e: vestiges@icloud.com w: www.vestigesofspirituality. com

The exhibition will run from 21st – 29th September at Grimsby Minster.

Vestiges of Spirituality is a multimedia installation created by film-maker (Annabel McCourt), two composers (David Power and David Lancaster) and a visual artist (Linda Ingham). It is designed to be displayed in churches and is conceived so that it “works with” the churches as opposed to just happening to be in them. One might say that the church itself is the fifth artist in the installation. Its starting point for doing this is that churches tend to contain large and beautiful open spaces that are designed for contemplation. They also contain small, separate spaces

Closed Sundays (due to church services) Preview on Friday 20th September 7-9pm. Opening hours and further details, can be found on the website: www.vestigesofspirituality.com The Vestiges of Spirituality tour is supported by the National Lottery through Arts Council England.

I like to paint traditional landscape views as well as contemporary subjects including figure drawing, portraits, flowers and still life. I paint in pastel, acrylic, oil, ink, charcoal and watercolour. Watercolour, with its brilliant pigment and translucent washes glowing on fresh white paper is the most appealing medium to work in; however, it is the most difficult

medium to master. Nevertheless, I am hooked and get lots of enjoyment trying to catch the scene in front of me in watercolour.

104 High Street Broughton Nr. Brigg North Lincolnshire DN20 0JR t: 01652 658172 e: cdm.broughton@yahoo.co.uk w: debbidipity.wordpress.com My work is multi-faceted, using a variety of media and techniques, the current concept determining the processes and materials chosen. However, there is a common thread running through much of my work: nature, a constant source of inspiration. “Informed by the organic is a body of abstract work that was produced to exhibit for my degree show. It is an installation of ripped paper, and sculptures made from wire and fleece reminiscent of living forms: from single cells, viruses, DNA, systems of the human body, to living creatures and

plants; from the simple building blocks of life to complex structures. Work from this will be displayed alongside earlier and later pieces. Directions: M180 junction 4 towards Scunthorpe / Brigg; right-hand lane to go straight on at the A18 roundabout (Forest Pines), sign-posted Broughton one mile. Turn right at the Dog and Rat mini-roundabout, 104 is 100 metres on the left.
