MISSING LINK Term 2 2019

PRINCIPAL’S REPORT We had a very successful term in Term 2 and the many events and successes we had are reported in this Missing Link. I would like to thank all students, staff and families for their efforts to help our students have opportunities to do their best. I would also like to thank Mrs Brenda Quayle for her 5 years of service to the school and wish her very success as she assumes her new role as principal of Erskine Park High School. I would also like to share a summary of the principal’s address to the Assemblies at the end of last term where students in Years 7 -10 received reports and recognition for curricular, co-curricular and extra- curricular participation. Principal’s Address to Assemblies Congratulations to all of our students in Years 7-10 for the quality of their work in Terms 1 and 2. Congratulations to the students who annotated work samples in #MyLearningHub; earned recognition in terms of merit awards and significant achievement awards; and who worked with their class teachers to coconstruct their own report comments in each subject. In Semester 1, 87% of Years 7-10 students wrote their own academic subject comments, showing they understood what they had learnt, knew their own strengths and could identify the areas where they most wanted to improve. As Rooty Hill HS is “your school”, most of our students and their families just take this work for granted. I can tell you that, although there are some schools in Australia trying these new and innovative things, it is not common. We are doing it because we believe in “student agency” – that is the capacity of each student to understand and be able to explain what they know, what they can do and what they value in their learning. In this century that is a very important thing to be able to do- to seek employment, study after school and apply for scholarships, special programs and be in charge of your own life.
