PRINCIPAL’S REPORT As we come to the end of one of our most successful years, I would like to celebrate our successes and reflect on the changes that face us for 2015. Celebrations Congratulations to all the students whose achievements have made our school one of the best in NSW. Many of these students are included in the following pages so I will just mention Felipe Zapata Castro who was recognised as the most outstanding CHS athlete of the year in 2014, Mark Torzar who won a CHS blue for volleyball and Rachelle Rativo who represented the school in debating at a state level. Congratulations to our school's musical production team. This year the students wrote, staged, performed and directed the production Broken with great support from Ms. Scerri and Mr. Kenny. Congratulations to the 55% of students in Years 7-10 who improved their grade point average between first and second semester.
Congratulations to our teachers, especially the literacy leaders in lifting student skills and capabilities in reading, writing and thinking. The shift that has occurred in what our students can do is "significant". That means we have measured the change and our students are learning better, faster and with more confidence as a result of the program. I would like to make special thanks to Ms. Short and her team for creating and delivering such an innovative program. Congratulations to our Deputy Principal, Ms. Mattimore for her leadership of the Social Ventures Australia project, a project that will fund even more innovation in student learning in the next few years. Students can look forward to having sophisticated electronic portfolios to use for university, training and employment applications that they will create themselves. The portfolios will record, in multimedia format the skills, capabilities and dispositions students demonstrate to show they understand themselves as learners.
