MATHEMATICS/LOTE The Chess Club meets every Tuesday at lunch in D118. AMC 2014 T h e A u s t r a l i a n M a t h e m a G c s CompeGGon is on Thursday 7th of August 2014. The cost for each student is $6.00. Students will need to hand in their payment and note by the 26th of June 2014. This is a great opportunity for all students from Years 7 to 12 to parGcipate, not just the mathemaGcally gibed. Maths Olympiad The 28 th annual Australasian Problem Solving MathemaGcal Olympiads (APSMO) is underway. RHHS students Nansita Charan, Narisha Prasad, Ky Staal and Jason Ma are part of an overall number of 9100 students from Australia, New Zealand and neighbouring countries taking part in this contest this year. Introduce the blended learning with Chromebooks The math/LOTE faculty has rolled out 16 Chromebooks in our classrooms. We are thoroughly enjoying this learning gadget which is light, fast, versaGle and secure. Chromebooks can: Create and collaborate using Google Drive. Do more with the web using Chrome Browser. Flip the classroom using YouTube. Open educaGonal resources beyond textbooks. Assessment of, for and as learning using Google Form.

We believe Chromebook will assist students to learn more deeply, more widely and be^er. Please book a Chromebook test drive with your math and LOTE teacher and you won’t be disappointed. T w o y e a r 1 0 e x t e n s i o n MathemaGcs students have achieved brilliant results in mathemaGcs this semester including gecng 100% in the half yearly extension examinaGon. Both Emma Jurd and Susie Tang have put in an incredible effort to achieve these results.

LOTE LOTE students from Years 7, 9, 10 and 12 have parGcipated in the 2014 Language Perfect World Championships (the biggest online language compeGGon). This was the second Gme that Rooty Hill High School students w e r e i n v o l v e d i n a w o r l d language compeGGon. RHHS was ranked 23nd for Chinese in NSW out of 135 schools. T h e C o n f u c i u s Classroom China Club offered a range of cultural acGviGes to

R H H S s t u d e n t s t h i s t e r m . Students across the whole school had the opportunity to taste Chinese food. Students also parGcipated in Tai-­‐chi lessons to enhance students' understanding of Chinese culture. The feedback from the students has been f a n t a s G c . T h e C o n f u c i u s classroom also offered a Chinese language and culture program (Outreach Program) to students from Eastern Creek Public School this term. The students had the opportunity to parGcipate in language and culture lessons to enrich their knowledge in Chinese language and culture. The LOTE faculty would like to congratulate all the students from Years 7, 9, 10 and 12 for their enthusiasm in Chinese language learning.
