PRINCIPAL’S MESSAGE– 2022 IS OUR DIAMOND JUBILEE BIG ANNOUNCEMENT ROOTY HIGH SCHOOL TURNS 60 Want to be involved – please contact the school WATCH FOR NEWS VIA SOCIAL MEDIA AND DIRECT CONTACT REPORT PRESENTATION ADDRESS In Term 2 I had the privilege of addressing Year 12 and Year 11 students when they received reports and in Week 1 of next term, I will present report and recognition documents to students in Years 7 - 10. Following the Excellence Assembly in Term 1 we have had even more opportunities to think about the ways we want to work, learn and “do school” together. During this first half of the year: • We have had time to think about COVID-19 and its lasting impact on the way young people feel in Australia and across the world. • We have supported families who have “done it tough”. We have helped the small group of students who are actually struggling to do school because they cannot control their feelings and emotions. • We have responded to requests from parents for a very high level of service by using our resources effectively on universal, targeted and intensive programs. • We have resumed a lot of our signature sporting, cultural and entrepreneurial learning programs and have engaged with external providers and partners to offer opportunities for transition for students in Years 10 12. • We have used the $327,000 funding for the COVID-19 Intensive Learning Support Program (ILSP) to create targeted and intensive programs in reading and numeracy for students who “fell behind” due to COVID-19 impacts in 2020. • We have implemented the new Strategic Improvement Plan (SIP) 20212024 (see our website and below) and have had some “quick wins” with: o Students writing and achieving personalised subject goals (see SMH photo and article on Page 6) and completing personalised learning interviews to identify their strengths and goals for semester 2; o Rigorous Reading strategies used in every class with early signs that reading progress is improving; o A focus on improving “short answer writing” for exams; o Above state average results in the Tell Them from Me survey – in engagement, belonging and advocacy; o The new Department of Education Attendance Strategy put
