Your Family’s Health The Mercury Model

- a celebration of mental uniqueness!

Do you wonder why one child takes to your home schooling so easily while another vehemently resists? Would your life be easier or less stressful if you had a better idea of what’s going on in their heads?

Albert Einstein told us: ‘Everybody is a genius. But if you judge a fish by its ability to climb a tree, it will spend its whole life believing it is stupid.’ This may be an excellent time to re-visit his profound observation. Families are living in much tighter quarters now, during lockdown, with everyone spending more time at home. For some, the close and continuous contact feels like a pressure cooker. Our houses may seem smaller now. It may be a perfect time to take a new look at yourself and your family members.

We can see that people behave differently – some are mildmannered, some are selfassured; while one may follow the crowd, another is fiercely independent. What is less wellknown is that our mental activities differ as widely as our behavioural styles. This is natural! Even in close-knit families, and at any age, we can be mentally as dissimilar from one another as fish and foxes.

Here is the truth – we are all wired differently. We think and learn differently, we communicate differently, and every one of us has natural mental strengths. Fish may be unable to climb trees, but it’s a monkey’s favourite activity. The Mercury Model easily identifies and accurately describes how our individual minds tick!

It clarifies how each of us meets and greets new information, how we take it in, process it, store it, how long we may retain it, and how/if we express it to others. The Mercury Model pinpoints our unique ‘learning requirements’ – those specific factors which can either benefit or inhibit the uptake of information, including environmental features, being indoors vs. outdoors, noise level, solitary vs. group settings, pace of presentation, word style, use of props, visuals, activities, etc.

Even minor alterations to work/study spaces can affect learning. What an adventure it is to discover the particulars of your own learning dynamics and those of your children, parents, partner, friends, boss or colleagues. The Mercury Model does not require an expensive questionnaire or specialist interview. The assessment tool, included in my books, is an easy-to-use Table from which you can identify the astronomical position of the planet Mercury at birth. This light astrological approach identifies an individual’s unique personal relationship with the mercurial archetype, and every aspect of mental activity.
