It resulted in the Ghanaian Traditional Council of Montréal Quebec led by Omanhene Oseadieyo Kwateng Amanin being honored for its impact in the City. The citation given to Omanhene read as follows:”This honorary certificate recognizes your commitment to our community and is offered to you as part of the Black History Month as a thank you for your contribution to the quality of life of our citizens.” On Saturday, 27th February, 2021, Mary Deros representing Villeray Saint-Michel Parc-Extension on Montreal City Council presented a certificate to Omanhene Kwateng Amanin to celebrate Black History Month in Montreal.
Omanhene Oseadieyo Kwateng Amanin decked in his rich and colourful kente costume and adorned in gold bangles, in his acceptance of the award stated that Black history month is a time to reflect on creating awareness of our struggles and challenges that face us everyday as black people. He continued that it is not about only celebrating our achievements and our successes. As people of colour which we are frequently referred to; we need to understand and be aware that coming together as a unified people is the only way, in his opinion, to fight against all the challenges that confront us every blessed day. “We must remember, “ he added that there is no division amongst African blacks, Caribbean blacks or other blacks from other parts of the universe. We are all black people with common goals and ambitions to succeed. Our differences and our challenges make us to thrive together as one united people.”
