I’m a natural-born rule follower. Always have been. In fact, I like rules. I don’t mind asking for permission, find comfort in knowing and understanding limits, and err on the side of “because you’re just not supposed to do that.” But, dare I say, I have a wild side. Remember the race scene in the movie Grease? Just before Danny revs his engine at the start line, his competition says, “The rules are, there ain’t no rules.” I’ll spare you my uncanny ability to quote this movie verbatim, but the takeaway here is important. When it comes to décor, I believe the rules for your home are— there are none. It doesn’t take long to figure out that I love color. From my wardrobe to my home décor, it’s clear I embrace the color wheel and march to the beat of my own can of paint. Don’t get me wrong, I appreciate a good neutral, but something about pulling off the bold and unexpected makes my rebel heart sing. In this issue, much to my delight, you will see color in all of its glory. As much as I love to salute my fellow color enthusiasts and risk-takers, this issue isn’t meant to leave you thinking your beige walls should be hot pink. It’s really about celebrating the elements of a home that make you say, “Wow! What a bright idea.” Maybe it’s clever cabinets that maximize storage, unique lighting, DIY art, or pieces that make your home guest-ready in a snap. Whatever it is, your home should be an expression of who you are and how you live. Take a cue from these homeowners and designers who achieved just that. I guess some rules really are meant to be broken.
