New and upcoming airports of India India is one of the fastest developing economies of the world. It boasts of some state of the art airports in its kitty while having some new and upcoming airports already in the pipeline. Government is planning to boost connectivity to tier 2 and tier 4 cities and at the same time ease existing traffic on popular airports. Civil Aviation Minister has recently highlighted their plan to bring about 100 new airports in the next 15 years with an estimated cost of about 4 lakh crores in their development. About 70 airports are being planned at new destinations where there is no airport as of now, while the remaining will be second airports in the same city or an expansion of present airfields which will handle commercial flights too. These airports will be developed under the UDAN scheme aiming to bring about regional connectivity by offering required financial support and development of infrastructure. Some popular airports which are already under construction include Jewar Airport in Noida, Mopa in Goa and a second airport in Mumbai. Jewar Airport - Uttar Pradesh The airport is being constructed in Greater Noida and is expected to take down the load of Indira Gandhi International Airport. At the same time Jewar airport will also offer immense convenience to residents living in and around Noida at a distance of 60 kms from Delhi, the total cost of construction is expected to be about 20 crores and said to be developed in four phases. The airport is going to be built on a 5000-acre land, most of which has already been acquired.
