WHERE IT ALL BEGAN Ken Johnson and Norm McDonald make up the “K” and the “N” in K&N. Ken and Norm were avid motorcycle racers who started out by making a line of handlebars in the 1960’s. While promoting their handlebars, they also began experimenting with different air filter designs to combat the frustrations of the air filter technology of the day.

They had found that the most successful design consisted of layers of cotton gauze sandwiched between wire mesh, and coated with oil to help trap particles. This design provided good air flow, trapped dirt particles, and allowed the filter to be cleaned and re-used. In 1969 K&N began production of these filters, and the worlds Best Air Filter was born!

TESTING – LABORATORY AND REAL WORLD

K&N Air Filters are tested for the following: • Air Flow. For optimum performance.

• Air Filtration. To ensure that the filter provides performance while doing its primary job – protecting your motor.

• Power & Torque gains. K&N always aims to give a power gain, while maintaining an exceptional level of filtration protection for your motor.

• Vibration testing. K&N use vibration testing on their filters and frames to ensure that their filters will last the test of time and withstand damage that could cause filtration problems.

A K&N Air Filter is made of 4 to 6 layers of cotton gauze sandwiched between two epoxy-coated aluminum wire screens. The cotton is treated with a specially formulated grade of oil causing tackiness throughout the cotton’s microscopic strands.

The nature of the cotton allows high volumes of airflow, and when combined with the tackiness of the oil creates a powerful filtering media that ensures engine protection. In contrast, most other media can not maintain the same balance of airflow and filtration throughout the filter’s life without sacrificing one or the other. With a K&N Air Filter, there is no sacrifice.

X-Stream Dirt Bike & Supermoto Filters With the current rage in 4 stroke technology, the K&N X-Stream Filter provides a great option for dirt bikes. The increased filtration area provides more air-flow while the 4 layers of woven premium cotton media allow for increased filtration. The X-Stream filter provides good performance gains, and its two piece design makes installation, changing and cleaning a breeze.

Oil Filters K&N Premium Wrench-Off Oil Filters Originally developed for demanding auto race applications, our premium oil filters are rapidly becoming a favourite among consumers for their outstanding reliability, durability and easy removal.

Our Oil Filters Have Nuts We have all been there: Whether it’s remembering where that disappearing canister tool is; or having oil leak all over your garage and yourself; or finally giving up and pounding a screwdriver through the filter just to get if off. Most of our canister type motorcycle and ATV oil filters come with a 17 mm nut.

High-Flow Rate Our oil filters use resin impregnated cellulose filter media. This allows for higher flow rates while providing outstanding filtration.

High filter flow rates are important in racing vehicles where the oil is pumped much faster than in a standard vehicle. When the engine is circulating oil at high GPM rates, the high-flow oil filter helps reduce the loss of pressure through the filtering process.

Compatible with the Latest in Synthetic Engine Oils Our oil filters are ideal for high-end synthetic motor oil. Synthetic motor oil is said to offer improved flow performance at cold temperatures while providing superior protection against thermal degradation.

K&N Air Filter Cleaner is the only cleaner formulated to clean K&N Filtercharger™ air filters with cotton media. The use of any other cleaning solution can void the filter’s warranty, and quite possibly could damage the cotton material.

K&N Power Kleen Cleaner works to dissolve the dirt build up and old filter oil, and can be washed away with water.
