Richard Evans Club Owner & Chairman Welcome to this Saturday afternoons midland football league match at home to Studley F.C. Also, a warm welcome to the officials and supporters of Studley together with the match officials. We will be looking to bounce back from our poor result and performance against Highgate United today and hopefully the team will put a smile on our faces again. The season hasn’t been what we wanted so far so it would be great to finish on a high with some much-needed wins. Other things at the club are going better with the academy team near the top of their division and the young youth teams also winnings matches. This is definitely a period for the club to stick together and plan for the future so we will all be meeting and finding ways of improving the solid base we have here. From myself to the players i wish you good luck today and hope you work hard to stop our opposition from enjoying their day today. Next up for the Roms is Wolverhampton Casuals and we hope to see you all there. Up the Roms and many thanks for all your help UTR

Roger Evans Club President Emeritus I went to watch our Sunday side play and they did quite well, although they lost it wasn't as bad as the scoreline suggests. They were playing a side that was full of very highly paid players from Saturday sides. No doubt that the game is ruled by money, more now than ever. It's always had an influence, but l really feel that nowadays, it has a greater influence than ever Great to see our young players coming on in leaps and bounds, One thing for definite is we will be using top class facilities next season; I’ve had to apologise for the mess that we encountered at Castle Vale Stadium I'm in hope that they will play their part and clear the seating and areas of the mess. On a positive note, our academy is looking to recruit a lot more players for the coming season and beyond.

Good luck to all our teams in the future, I’m sure the managers will looking to keep going forward and to improve. Wishing you all every success. UTRs

College Update By Luke Rowe On Monday 12th February, we hosted a fantastic trial day for the Romulus Full Time Scholarship Programme, where hopeful attendees looked to book their place on next year’s course. The trial day ran smoothly with a training session in the morning and then a 11v11 game in the afternoon. There were different levels of talent on show in an end-to-end 11v11 matchup. We are pleased to say that half of the attendees have confirmed their place for next year’s college year. The next trial day will be held on Monday 25th March. We hope to see those who couldn’t make Mondays session and looking forward to welcoming new faces for the opportunity to join us next year. UTRs

Half-Term Tea With Tannoy Tom By Tom Pratt Hi everyone and welcome back to the Castle Vale Stadium for another MFL Premier Division game for Romulus. Today, we host Studley for what promises to be a fiery contest and I’m hoping that Roms can pick up the three points this afternoon. Last week was disappointing- I felt that the team were unfortunate to go behind so close to half-time, and sadly, Highgate were quicker out the, no pun intended, gate in the second half. Oh well. In happier news, it was half term for the region’s school children and the biggest kid of them all, me, went to Plymouth for a quick trip to see old friends, new friends, and experience a load of rain! It was the first time I’ve actually seen a game at Home Park, the Plymouth Argyle ground. Appropriately for Valentine’s Day, one team and their fans got their hearts broken with a last-minute, lastattack equaliser for Coventry City. 2-2 was a fair result for both teams on a misty night. I also enjoyed 2 train trips. This week I did something I’ve not done before, and had an eye test. It turns out I mix up colours, particularly green and red, so if I do get the subs wrong today, you know why! I hope you all enjoy the game. UP THE ROMS!

Trickie`s Roms Affair By Richard Clarke March is fast approaching and with Valentine's Day last week it dawned on me that it will be 15 years ago I fell in love with Romulus Football Club. With all this in mind I will try to jot down the highs and lows of the last decade and a half which have become entwined in my life. Back in 2009 I was approached to take some photos for Roms by the then press officer who knew I had stopped following my hometown team due to the politics of the running of the club which thankfully were resolved many seasons ago now. What I did not know then and after a fair bit of persuasion was that I would begin a lifelong association with Romulus, the North Birmingham nonleague team around 30 miles from my home. The ethos behind the football club, but mainly the people running Roms just drew me in and like they say the rest is history. Back at the tail end on 2008/09 season Romulus Football Club were comfortably finding their feet in the Northern Premier League Division One South and playing football at the club’s highest level. The Roms at Step 4 did not look out of place against the likes of Scarborough Town and others with real proper football people running the club making sure that relegation was not an option. Our now Chairman Richard Evans must take a lot of credit as manager back then scouting out football talent that made Romulus look right at home in the NPL. It became clear that it was more than just photos that would define my role at the club soon being invited onto the committee and getting a say in the off field running of the club. The biggest turning point though for me was when I was offered the assistant-managers post at the newly formed Romulus Academy around 10 years ago. Over a pint or two Evo asked if I would be his No. 2 at the Academy when they had just formed, and Richard Evans had taken the manager's role alongside his first team duties. I leapt at the chance to work with someone with so much football experience. Over the seasons I have had the pleasure to work with many great people in football and currently I am getting great enjoyment working with the enthusiastic and talented young Luke Rowe who is making great strides in rebuilding the Academy's reputation. ...Continued

Trickie`s Roms Affair - Part Two By Richard Clarke After 11 years in step 4 football Roms sadly were relegated and dropped into the Midland Premier League. Romulus got the result at Kidsgrove on the last day of the campaign but results elsewhere sealed our fate. It was a horrible feeling throughout the club, but the achievement of competing at that level for such a period should never be taken away. Since being in the MPL we have come close to a return and possibly the interruption of covid really took away our best chance of promotion. The goal of the club currently is we will not rest until we get promoted back to the Northern Premier League. Anyway, there's only so much you can cram into a few minutes to cover a 15 year affair. Two other highlights before I sign off my 15 years are the League Cup and FA Youth success. In our first season in the MPL Romulus reached the League Cup Final and silverware was lifted in a tense game at the home of Walsall Football Club. With many memorable victories in my time this was the only honours for the first team in my time at the club, but I am sure that will change over the coming seasons. Now the Academy have won the National League and been in various finals, but an away day at Meadow Park in the 2nd round proper of the FA Youth Cup is still the most magical night I have witnessed at any Roms game. I remember travelling up for the match wondering how we would compete against full-time professional outfit Notts County only to be treated to a dominant Romulus Academy display disposing of our hosts in a 1-3 victory. Well, this could have so much more in the article, but hopefully I have touched on the major points during my stint so far at Romulus Football Club. For me the love and passion for this club and the people around it is still the same and it is undoubtedly going to carry on in my time with no other thoughts than to do what's best for the club I love. Well, if all that was too soupy, please just sit back and enjoy the game. UTRs

Romulus Sunday By George Evans Romulus Sunday was founded in 2020, originally playing in division 3 of the Sutton district league. After being promoted 3 divisions in 3 years, we will this season be competing in the premier division and are hopeful that we can continue to impress and compete in any league. There is no doubt that the competition we will face this year will be the hardest yet, but with crop of lads that we have, and the environment we have created over the years, we all know that we are more than capable of competing against any Sunday side on our day. Knowing what you can do and actually doing it are two very different things. With arguably the youngest side in the league, consistency is going to be our biggest challenge this year and that’s exactly what will be demanded from everyone involved. We pride ourselves on giving young lads the opportunity to get valuable experience in men’s football and attempt to create a genuine pathway into first team football for them, wherever that may be. But first and foremost, we make sure that we have a set up in place that allows everyone to enjoy their football. That’s what it will always come down to. If you’d like to learn more about our Sunday side or register your interest in becoming a part of it, in whatever capacity, please contact georgeevans@romulusacademy.co.uk. Looking forward to this season, big challenge ahead. UTRs!
